- Have you ever been jungle river tubing in Sumatra? There's nothing else quite like it.
And honestly, have you REALLY experienced jungle trekking in Sumatra if you haven't finished it off by tubing back down the river in the middle of the rainforest? We think not!
In this video, we are based in the gorgeous village of Batu Katak in North Sumatra. Located on the edge of the Gunung Leuser National Park in Sumatra, Indonesia, this village is small but idyllic.
Plus, it's only 30 minutes from Bukit Lawang (and 3 hours from Medan), so it's easy to include it on your North Sumatra itinerary!
From Batu Katak (which means Stone Frog in Indonesian), you can trek into the jungle in search of orangutans, gibbons, hornbills and more. If you're lucky, you can also get a close-up look at the giant Rafflesia and Amorphophallus Titanum flowers (the largest in the world!)
Or you can simply swim in the waterfalls and rivers, disconnect from the busy world and reconnect with nature.

Awww so nice to hear from you Moose and Tiger (and the cubs)! Thanks so much for the kind words. We had the absolute best time filming this - it's been waaaay too long since we made it to the jungle, so it was just superb. But now, we can't wait to go back! So lucky to have the best of both worlds - life at the lake and holidays at the jungle. For now, anyway! We are crossing fingers and toes that you can make it here by the end of the year for some much-needed jungle time! Lots of love from paradise. 🙏😀☺

Love this video and the location, super fun adventure! I would really enjoy staying there by the river and going tubing. My husband would be too afraid... but maybe I could talk him into it. 😉
Ahh it's the best thing ever! They do have lifejackets available as many local people coming from the city are not strong swimmers. Agung grew up with the river so loves it, but he is very nervous in the ocean!

We feel the same way - we are most alive when surrounded by all the life in the jungle. If only it were a few hours away instead of 6, but at least we can access it from time to time 😀
