- 🇮🇩 Merdeka! Join us to celebrate our 2nd Indonesian Independence Day living in the small village of Tuktuk in Lake Toba, North Sumatra - it was SO MUCH FUN!
Every village and town in the country celebrates this day - with formal ceremonies in the morning followed by fun and games in the afternoon.
From tug of war and sack races to the infamously difficult panjat pinang - trying to shimmy up a tall pole covered in motor oil to get to the prizes at the top!
Tujuhbelasan (17th August) is such a special day for Indonesians. This year marked 78 years since Indonesia said no thanks to colonisation and become the country that we know and love.
