The Challenges of Our Life in Indonesia - Real Talk! (It's Been a ROUGH Week)

- It's time for some real talk. We LOVE our life in Indonesia, but just like life anywhere in the world, it's not always easy or problem free! We've just had one of those months where all the smaller inconveniences pile up one after the other, making everything feel overwhelming.
Frequent power cuts, dodgy mechanics, lack of transport, no veterinary care, sick cats, missing cats, broken water pumps... everything just seemed to happen all at once this week!
No, none of our recent issues are the end of the world (although one of them may feel pretty heartbreaking), but instead of painting on smiles and pretending that life is perfect, we want to share it all with you guys - the downs as well as the ups!
Join us on a typical day in our Indonesian village as we navigate some minor annoyances and some bigger hurdles. Say hi to our cats, wander through the village with us, and let us share what's been going on in our little part of the world.

UPDATE: Things got worse. The day after we made this video, Hector became ill and deteriorated very rapidly. He died in our arms last night as we did everything we could to keep him alive. Zee Zee is improving, which we are thankful for. But our house now feels extremely empty without our two boys, Floofy and Hector. You can see the incredible bond they had as they cuddle in the closing moments of this vlog. RIP Floofy and Hecky - we love you, we're sorry we couldn't save you, and we hope that you found your way back to one another.
I am so so sorry for the loss of your beloved cats. I know that heart wrenching pain. They are family. Extremely hard but also beautiful when you can be there for a pet when it can transition with your love. Take gentle care guys. 😢😿💝
@@LifeOnLombok Thank you so much - as a fellow cat lover, I know you understand how we are feeling. The bigger the love, the bigger the loss, and we absolutely loved them enormously. We are so grateful to have had them in our lives, but would have loved a lot longer! 😢🙏❤
@@ExploringSumatra yep, don't know why pets have such a short life span. I was so blessed to have a cat for almost 20 years. She was a soulmate for sure. I can't imagine losing two so close together. So sorry! 🥰
I'm so sorry for your loss :( only people who've loved and lost their pets know the pain. RIP Hector, he was blessed to have both of you, as you as he was you having him.
@@martyinsumatra Thanks for your lovely comment - only animal lovers understand how hard it is to lose a furry family member! We miss him so much. It's amazing how even one le🙏ss cat can make the place feel empty. But we are so grateful that the remaining 4 are doing ok and healthy so far! We are cuddling them tighter than ever.
Thanks for coming to Tabo 🤗
I love your vlogs
Aw thank you - maybe we can go on an adventure with you one day and you can help us make an epic one. 😀
I'm so sorry for your loss. It's never easy and always too soon.
Thank you - it really is always too soon, no matter how old they are 🙏
Aww, hope your favourite cat comes back guys. 😺❤
Thanks Kev! We are still hopeful that he might just show up. 🙏
That looks like they are fumigating!! Good video thanks. All the best with your pets and bike.
Thank you for your support, it means alot to us! I'm sure things will feel much easier once the bike is back on the road and the cats are all healthy and present! ☺
❤
🥰
Good
Terima kasih
Guys, feeling for your loss x Did you get anywhere with your bike? listen i have 2 bikes both in working order, how about you use the Yamaha King until you get yourself sorted? Hope floofy finds his way back 😍
Thanks Martin. All the local bengkel have said it's too advanced for them, but one of them offered to take it to a Honda workshop in Siantar next week. Fingers crossed that works out without breaking the bank! That's such a nice offer that we might just take you up on! We'll send you a message later on. Mauliate friend.🙏☺❤
Hello Carly! Sounds like ORS/ovarian remnant syndrome in your cat? Don't despair, there is someone who knows how to fix your bike or time 4 Agung to learn? Sorry about your cats. Now feeding tuna to
stray cat & cleaning ears at the same time. Scared me at 1st grabbing neck but the smell of fish did the trick in getting the cat to comply! Your view from the house is stunning! Is is cool? Wind blowing or super humid? No mosquitoes? I use to walk 2 hours a day in Timor & rode a horse. Walking, dancing & listening 2 music makes you forget your troubles! Take care! Cookie sends 😻💙I got dengue fever in Bali staying in Ubud. Moved to ac room & recovered.
Hi Liz and Cookie! Finally we found a local mechanic who admits it's an advanced problem that none of the local workshops can handle. He's going to help us take it to a Honda workshop in the city next week. Phew! We are SO lucky with our view at home - still appreciate it as if it's the first time we see it every time we look out the window. Just gorgeous. Some days it can be a bit chilly when the wind comes from the lake, but never too cold. Mostly perfect temperature without being too hot or cold. Seldom humid where we are. This year there are many more mosquitoes than last year - I think we've had more rain than usual. Gosh 2 hours a day walking is great! We definitely need to do more of it as it's so much more interesting to wander on foot. We are getting in lots of cat cuddles and trying to stay positive. Everything will work out in the end! Hugs to you. ❤
Hi Carly. Thanks 2u found Ivermectin at the feed store(lotion, paste, liquid, tablets). I was looking in the wrong places. Yes, get up and walk, looks easy from your house to step onto the road. IOnce stayed in Madura where the water was turn on sporadically. Your weather sounds divine with no sweltering heat. Your Indonesian must be really good. Cookie sends @@ExploringSumatra ❤
@@lizcarlyle2477 Oh that's great you sourced some Ivermectin! It can be a bit of a wonder cure for alot of issues. My Indonesian is pretty good but nowhere near fluent. I really need to make an effort to advance it a bit more! Hugs to cute COokie.
Hi Carly. Speaking Indonesian can be a lifesaver traveling around Indonesia. Terima kasih banyak Animal feed stores are way 2 go! @@ExploringSumatra
Yes I wonder what chemicals they use?😊
They were spraying it right through restaurants and kitchens, so one would hope they aren't too toxic!
Bro, coba bikin conten diving di lake toba
Oke bro 😁
@@ExploringSumatra bosan bro , main air sekali sekali ,the way of water 😁
bang kasih lah dikit ke bahasa indonesia nya 🙂
Maaf ya bang. Biasanya kami pakai captions di bahasa Indonesia, tapi belum ada waktu. Sabar ya, dan terima kasih sudah support channel kami. 🙏
Seems animal abuse and neglect is common. When people are struggling with every day needs, animals are the least of the concern. The monkeys being sold at markets in filthy cages out in the open. No laws for animal protection. Its all very disturbing.
Yes - one of the hardest things for us living here and seeing the overall disparity between animal treatment back home and here - although of course there are exceptions. Lots of local people and organisations doing an incredible job of fighting to change things too!
@@ExploringSumatra glad to hear there's an effort to change. Sorry for your loss. Sending virtual hugs.
So sad - Losing two cats is devastating, Rosie scooter can be fixed or replaced - you love your cats and they love you - they had a life of love even if it was too short xxxx The captions did give me a smile though - "butt up music" piece de resistance= paste de roses , dingy fever (good try) and the noisy smoke machines described as music and applause - and yes I noticed your healthy brekkie - I put chia seeds on my shop list. 🧡💛💚💙💜🫂🫂
Oh dear - haven’t had a chance to fix the captions yet, but will get to it. At least they are entertaining. Hard to watch this back as Hector is running around so healthy in it - hard to believe that just 24 hours later he was gone. Rosie does seem unimportant after everything else that followed. We loved them so much. Start slow with the chia seeds or they might work too well!! ❤️❤️❤️
