There are some fitness influencers (tammy hembrow, chloe ting etc) who are doing it the right way - as stated in this video, and their legions of loving, supportive fans are testament to that. However, like in the case of Brittany Dawn, some fitness influencers end up being nothing but problematic.
The thing is - instead of promoting healthy eating, moving your body in an appropriate way and nourishing yourself; a lot of fitness influencers are actually promoting underrating, over-exercising and crash dieting. This is not good. This is not healthy, and this is not positive. Do I think these influencers are doing so on purpose? Nope. I think that they don’t realise that the effect that potentially have on their fans may be negative. What do you guys think?

i think Chloe Ting is a great example of a GOOD fitness influencer. she actually played a big role in me recovering from my ED partly because she inspired me to get stronger rather than just thinner. She's very transparent about her gut issues and her painful bloating and shows pictures of herself being bloated to show her audience that it is normal and that really helped me normalise my own bloating. in my opinion, her cooking/meal videos also showcase a healthy non restrictive diet. i have followed her for years and her love for food is no secret. she has big healthy portions and isn't scared of certain ingredients and you can really tell she loves to cook and enjoy her food. she encourages rest days and eating "junk food" in moderation. she really inspired me to start my own fitness journey and even though i dont keep up with her anymore i'll always be really grateful for the ways in which she helped me heal my relationship with my body after years of restriction and overexercising
edit: ik that her videos are very clickbaity especially the titles but she is very open about how everyone's results are different and those titles help her generate more views which help her generate more income and considering all her programs r literally free and she's transparant about the results from her programs, she isnt doing anything wrong

As a former bodybuilder/bikini competitor, I will say this about the "quick fix diets" you see online from fitfluencers: The quicker you lose it, the quicker you'll put it back on. Weight loss takes time. Results take time and consistency. It makes me so sad to see posts from fitfluencers online about how they can give you a "flat stomach in a week" if you buy their program. They're taking advantage of people who don't know that's not how it works. And even if you DO lose the weight in a week, you'll likely gain the weight back just as quickly and feel like shit about yourself because you're back where you started. Don't buy into these scams!

I am in my sixties now, and am still within ten pounds of when I was a "skinny mini" working out 12 classes a week. I walk every day, and lift light weights. Ladies, listen to this video.

She does do some „shady“ stuff as she sells products in Germany (and surrounding countries I guess) like protein/snack bars etc and labels them „healthier versions“ although her products contain the equal amount of sugar (or even more) than comparable products. She also always preaches that she uses mainly coconut sugar and that coconut sugar is healthier than normal sugar which is just not true..

Also she started her fitness journey with weight gain back then but kept getting skinnier and more toned over the years which is okay I guess but I'm just so sick of influencers constantly changing their bodies because it's trendy.
Also my physiotherapist told me especially not to do her home workouts because of the bad posture she's showing in many videos (hollow back etc). We often forget that most of these influencers don't have special training/physical education and don't know shit about the right execution and the human body in general.

Yes, Chloe Ting does pose and most likely edit a little here and there, but she never claims that you'll look like her when you do her work outs.
When she reacts to results she repeatedly emphasizes that every body is different and that results depend on a lot of factors. That's what I like about her. She's overall very motivational and tries her best that nobody feels ashamed if you might not be able to do certain things or to follow through the whole workout.
*Edit: Chloe's titles are a little bit of a clickbait. She has a disclaimer that explains what she's meaning with the titles. She never expects that you'll gain abs in two weeks.

@A Edjo Yes and that is why Chloe has tens of millions of subscribers-they want to be lied to and told they can just eat as usual and do a little jumping. I am not surprised that there is no any woman who actually trains hard here in the comments becouse they would never praise or follow someone like Chloe.
Chloe is almost 40 yo woman who is doing half naked workouts and fetishizing Asian stereotype. Recently she made a video where she wore extremely short skirt and her whole ass was naked. Then she proceeded to do squats and filmed herself in the most voayeristic and inappropriate way where camera was under her skirt. It was borderline soft p*rn. Her comment section explained her how disapointed they are and how inapropriate this is and I read powerful statements from women who said they will no more engage in that kind of content for their own mental health asking is oversex*alization really empowerment. Ofcourse she did not adress it but she deleted comments instead.
For some time now she is constantly wearing pigtails, heavy make up while training and wears no clothes and acts in a stereotypical overly cute uwu way that Asian women are put in and now she is wearing skirts that don't cover her butt. Complete p*rn little Asian girl stereotype. Again-she is 40 yo and with her platform she could've done much more not only for Asian women but for women in general but the whole point of her channel is narcississtic fuel for her. How someone can not see that she has a compleatly fake gestures and behaviour is beyond me but then again, narcississtic women get following and adoration... I guess.
Her looks are build in the gym and plastic surgeons office yet she gives you air kicks that do nothing for your looks, absolute low content.
She will not tell you to do any diet or any actual hardwork ofcourse (!) becouse she does not care to give you an actual truth but promotes results with minimal effort becouse most of her audience wants to hear that and not put the real work in-that is why you will never look like her becouse she actually does not do her own workouts that she promotes. And that is why only beginners and amatures follow her. She is giving a hart/liking weird comments of men saying they have a crush on her which I found so weird, why wouldn't you like inspirational stories from your female audience?
She is histrionic as many of these women are, craves sexual attention and is perpetuating dangerous stereotypes. For some reason alot of her audience does not see that but just praises her. Absolutely poison for women.
I had to write this as someone who was 11 years in body fitness. The fact that people in the industry, such as real trainers, agree with me is all I need to know. I stand by my opinion. Since I moved to another city I've gained some weight and I've really struggled with my body image, hence eating less, waking up at 6 am to desperately try and fit the daily workouts in my schedule, religiously following these fitfluencer. Love your videos. I was in middle school during the grunge/heroin chic era. I was already thin, but became obsessed with looking like Kate Moss’ (probably airbrushed) editorial photos. I barely ate for years during my teens. When I was around 15 my hair started falling out. Even though over the years I have taken many steps to eat healthy and make sure I’m getting all of the vitamins and minerals I became deficient in, my hair never fully recovered. I can’t confirm this but I feel like I switched on some hair loss gene when I was starving myself as a young teen. My hair is fine, but it used to be thick and gorgeous before I decided to stop eating. There are so many long-term affects from restrictive dieting that I certainly never thought of when I was 14. So glad there’s more awareness now but also it’s sad to see that the media is still flooded with dangerous messaging. Raising awareness is so important 🙌

It's all trash, many also post useless exercises but that is not in fact what they do to reach their goals.

I've been working out using Pam, Lily and MadFit for more than 3 years now. I work out 6days a week and some days up to 2 hours and I used to only eat 2 meals a day. Guess what guys? I dont look like any of those women! I'm thin, but I dont have muscle definition. I just have to remember, it's their job to work out. They work out way more than me and eat such small meals. I only work out about 45-50 mins a day and eat 3 round meals now. And I'm okay with that!

Your point about the 'results' videos clicked with me sooooo much! Either they are lying or just click baiting. I used to follow these '2 weeks' workouts one after another and being so goddamn dissapointed when results were not seen like other youtubers. I am glad I got out of that horrible cycle! Love to you! ❤

I absolutely hate working out, and always did it. During lockdown my friend convinced me to work out with her. We did Pamela Reifs workouts, because she was the only one who didn’t talk through her videos. I did her workouts for like a year religiously, and since then on and off. I’m still not a fan of working out but love her videos because I can actually see the results, and she shares her plans for free. I tried since other influencers videos too but I just can’t get into them ( mostly cause they talk all the time which annoys me so much). She started to do products and cookbooks and stuff, but her videos are still available for everyone. She also talked about the time when she was too skinny and that she tries to be string now rather than lean. She seems very nice and genuine to fans too.

I just realized a few months ago that I could never look like these women on Social Media. I have naturally wider shoulders, a wider rib cage/wider ribs and wider hips than most of the women I see on Social Media. My bone structure is not that small and even though I work out 4 times per week and have a good and balanced diet, I'll never be that thin as other women.
After I realized that, I started to change my mindset. I don't work out to be thin anymore. I work out to be healthy and stronger. I don't have a good diet to be a smaller size. I have a good diet because I love these types of food, I love cooking and I love giving my body what it wants and needs. And yes, sometimes I eat chips. Yes, sometimes I eat fries. But that's what balanced means to me: not being restrictive and sometimes giving your body what it's craving for, but in moderation.
Your videos helped me a lot and made me realize that I'm good the way I am.

Thank you so much for sharing this. I got so ill back in 2016 following the guidance of these influencers in combination of already suffering from disordered eating. It definitely intensified my eating disorder following the false claims and dietary advice of these people 😔
I believe that just like the blue verification tick for celebs…there should be a green alternative for registered nutritionists and health coaches :) This would help to standardise the claims and variety of nutrition and health information being shared online🥰

In June I decided I wanted to get fit and turn my health around after COVID, I joined the gym and started dieting. I saw results like my jeans no longer fitting the same after loosing water weight (I didn't know this at the time). I saw the results and thought "if I eat even less and exercise even more I can get better results quicker". I ended up being terrified of food, and lost my period (I haven't had it in almost 6 months), since then I've slowly started eating more and being less restrictive.
I you are going through any of this know you are not alone, and there is always someone to talk to.❤️

Thank you for not being like that, I had an undiagnosed Ed for many years and starved myself and I really struggled with food, but I liked your videos showing how you eat balanced meals as a veggie and that basically started me wanting to eat truly healthy and fuel my body instead of starve it, I also follow Natacha oceane now and she’s great for that and not food shaming but eating for how your body feels and what feels good. It’s funny because I was always yo-yoing with my body weight but now aside from covid it’s been pretty stable, lower than my weight generally used to be and I eat whatever I want including fast food. The starving yourself crap is bs, it basically made me put on more weight long term, obsess over food and be constantly miserable and hungry, it’s really not worth it, and it’s crazy to me fitfluencers or whatever encourage you to eat barely anything and work out, your body needs fuel to work out effectively and get the gains you want, starving yourself and over exercising will just make you tired and hungry and miserable

My biggest issue is that these fitness influencers don’t look the same irl and on Instagram. They’re selling fake things.
“Pay to look like me” but they don’t even look like them. I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing for people to buy guides to help get in shape or eat better, but it’s important to know you will just better yourself not look like them

I love Grow with Jo channel. She looks healthy, she is always positive ad her workouts don't make me feel dead after. I personally think that it's great that there are so many channels and exercises you can find for free and create your own routine. But you gotta be smart about it. As far as I know, Chloe Ting received a lot of backlash over the years for click baiting headlines ad unhealthy exercises. I think I tried one of her workouts once, felt bad after and moved to other trainers.

Please do male fitness influencers next! My bf has body dismorphia thanks to Instagram, he thinks he needs to look beefy and cut all the time, despite me telling him that those men are posing, they're probably dehydrated, likely abusing steroids, and eating crazy amounts of protein shakes, chicken breast and broccoli.
