- We chat with @officialcattledecap vocalist Travis Ryan about the new album 'Terrasite' where he talks about the writing process, touring, and handling some hard times. He also talks about working with long time producer David Otero, and having Tony Parker from Midnight Odyssey contribute to the record. Travis needs to give himself more credit for the true emotions he puts in his songs. Honesty is the only thing that will save future generations!
He seems like one of the most open and honest guys in the scene and it makes me respect the band even more
Travis does not give himself enough credit. He said he doesn't fully understand why the band got a second wind, but 10 years ago is when they released Monolith of Humanity, which is when he debuted his more melodic vocal style, which is still unmatched. I think that's when they really started to differentiate themselves as a band.
Travis and the interviewers also seemed surprised at the younger crowd gravitating to Cattle Decap, but I think it makes sense. The younger generation is much more in line with the lyrical content of Cattle Decap, their last four albums have talked about climate change, and the human impact on Earth, in a real visceral manner not matched by many other bands (except maybe The Acacia Strain with Slow Decay). They have perfectly captured the feeling of existential dread that the younger generation feels.

It's a monolithic crusher for sure, but also very melodic. Difficult to compare it to 'Death Atlas', but still phenomenal !

I saw them with Artificial Brain, Full of Hell and Revocation in Somerville MA a few years back. They closed with Regret and the Grave that night.
Terrasite is straight fire
Love his lyrics and vocals. He's one of the best. New album is great. Just Another Body is class. Love the singing. He should do more of that. They sound amazing. I'll be seeing them in Dublin next year. Can't wait.

Cattle Decapitation are in my all time top 3 bands along with Obituary and Nile, such a fucking great band 👌
I've had it on regular rotation as well.
Just finished listening to and reading every lyric of the album. Its a real tearjerker. I weep for us.Mankind. Travis is able to put my everyday thoughts and feelings into words,in a way I can't describe.
The lyrics can be a tough read, but it can be good for some self reflection.
Travis making me think I need to recycle more, become a vegan, and give up my car. Love the lyrics, it's impossible not to hear them and do some self reflection of how harsh we really are to the earth

@@EnginerdBrian a vegan lifestyle is pretty easy to achieve, and it gets easier the longer you've been on it. The only difficult part is the social aspect and the constant pressure to revert to the normal (terrible) behaviors of humans and society. If you want to act out on your ideals, start now.

You're right. I was trying to convince him that the second wind was due to their amazing songs.
Yup. Monolith changed the game and put the band on the map. I was a fan of the earlier stuff, but as soon as 'A Living, Breathing Piece of Defecating Meat' dropped I knew they were on to something new and unique.
I got into Cattle Decap after the LA concert, the mentioned tour with Amon Amarth. They only played 3 songs or so but that was enough. I was listening to Death Atlas on the way back. Travis is one man army with all the vocals. Respect. Looking forward to the concert on June 10th (happens to be my birthday).

Travis is so right about the level of effort that goes into writing, recording, and producing an album that you truly care about. To contrast albums like Death Atlas, go listen to Metallica's new album 72 Seasons. It was very clearly slapped together over a long weekend because the guys wanted to buy bigger houses or more cars. It is lazy, boring, and samey. Can't wait for Terrasite.
Yeah, it's interesting. I get how it can be so stressful. His inside info is very eye opening. Oh, and you won't be disappointed with Terrasite.
They should've put a bit more effort into the naming of their band. Cattle Decapitation has to be the cringiest band name I've ever heard.

This is my first time on this channel, so I'm unfamiliar with everyone involved. It seems like a channel I would enjoy, and this is just an observation, and I'm not ragging on, or intend to make fun of or belittle anyone whatsoever, but the dude on the right just sitting there looks BLAZED! Just in the first 5 minutes alone, you could put a stop watch to how often he just looks at Travis for like 2 seconds, nods his head, and looks away. That was just funny to me.

I heard Humanure in high school and didn't like the music at all but was a fan of their artwork/logos, and I gave them so many chances but it never grabbed me so i went years without listeningto them.... then Death Atlas was released and i heard a couple songs off it. I became a fan, and started listening to the Monolith and Anthropocene albums, and I'm absolutely in love with this band now. I'm going to see them live in a few days and I'm expecting an amazing performance!
The early stuff is so much different.

We played a few shows with downspell at the kraken. Played at kanes bar and grill when they were a venue. Played with skinless out in 29 palms. That was a shit show.

Monolith was the album that for me took Cattle Decapitation and elevated them far beyond what they had done before. That album even makes other Death Metal acts look like amateurs. It's a masterpiece of an album from A to Z.

I heard of the band, but it was that "dumb" video (Bring Back the Plague) that got me to listen to them.

I would love to know what Travis's favorite Benscotter album art is that is not a Cattle album. Maybe a mortician album art?
I had a thought the other day. As long as the members of Cattle Decapitation are not vegan, and only vegetarian, they probably literally pay for cattle decapitation. Unless Travis here (and the whole band) has upped their game in terms of committing to the meta of being in Cattle Decap, that being avoiding all dairy and not supporting other kinds of cattle-decapitation-entailing novelties like rodeos or something, that is the truth. It would kinda be like if (even one of) the members of Cannibal Corpse was actually a cannibal: both would be cruel ironies. In this context though, it's far more likely the case.
Wouldn't the members of Cannibal Corpse also need to be corpses for your analogy to work? 🤔

The band has addressed this many times...They're not trying to portray themselves as sages or holeyer than thou. The logistics of being vegan often prevents Ryan from eating vegan, especially on tour. Haters gonna hate, pick nits and try and point out how their lyrical themes and band name is contradictory to their actions but it's all much less poignant, convincing, and moving than what Travis has to say on his records.

Side point: being vegan entails eating vegan, but eating vegan isn't sufficient for being vegan. If you really wanna cringe, Ghost is releasing an EP of covers. It’s fucking terrible and mainstream and he ripped off Iron Maiden’s whole art concept then covered their song lol.
