I had the privilege to meet Vinny back in 96. Dio played at a little bar in Goshen Indiana in which they had a meet and greet. Being a drummer myself, I of course went to the show. I saw Vinny and went running up to him and he met me with open arms. First thing out of my mouth was you have no idea how much you have influenced me. He was very humble. I went on to explain my situation and how much his drumming helped me through some difficult times. And he was thrilled that he had that much impact on a fan. It was a moment in my life that I will treasure forever! He truly cared! Thank you again Vinny! Your #1 fan.
Fantastic story!
That’s interesting, cause it happened to me as well. I met him during the Angry Machines tour and i told him he was my main influence. He was so humble and almost uncomfortable with me worshipping him.
That's cool. I never thought meeting such a high profile kinda guy would care, but he really did. Just blew me away!
@@tonyhurlbut7754 I had only just met him during the interview but he was so humble and kind. They say don't meet your idols, but that doesn't apply to Vinny.
@@MetalSwapMeet I agree 💯.
Great drummer and a class act!
Absolutely
Could listen to Vinnie talk all day.
Same. He has been involved in a lot of amazing music.
i saw Sabbath years ago with Dio at the War memorial arena in Rochester NY. .. what a great show !!!
Consider yourself fortunate.
LOVED the Heaven and Hell stuff - GREAT VIDEO.
Thank you!
I hung out with Vinny in the mid 80s after catching a flight out of San Diego I was in the Marines then. I was the last person on the plane and lo and behold there was DIO in first class. I said hi to him immediately and he was very nice. As soon as the seat belt sign came off I went and talked to Ronnie he was so down to earth. He asked me if I was in the service and I said yes. He asked me where I was going and I said Florida and he said so are we would I like to be his guest at a show in Hollywood, Fl. I said absolutely. During our layover in Dallas for a couple of hours I hung out with Vinny and we spoke about music. Vinny was so cool and outgoing ! A great memory and yes I was DIO’s guest at the show the tickets were at the will call booth
Incredible story! Very much appreciate your sharing.
Vinnie is a Class A Spirit!! A charm to be around & an even better drummer…Nothing but Love & Respect for VA!! 🔊🔊🔊
He's so kind and humble. Truly inspiring.
Vinny Appice is super cool. Met him dozens of times and promoted about 15 shows with Last in Line and recently with Sabbath Knights about a month ago. My favorite moment was when he taught my son how to do the 🤘. Thanks for posting! Good interview 👍.
Thanks so much!
Love his Dio drumming especially on Strange Highways and Angry Machines
Both underrated albums.
The only time I got a chance to see Ronnie James Dio live in concert was in March 2007 when he and Vinny had rejoined Black Sabbath (or "Heaven & Hell") as they called the band at that point. I was too young during their first couple of years in Sabbath in the early 1980's. And I missed the Dehumanizer tour because they were already split up again before I even realized they'd been back together again.
So when I heard they were getting back together for a 3rd time there was no way I was going to miss it, since they might never get back together again. This was my favorite line-up of the band: so I drove from my home state in Michigan to see them in London, Ontario Canada at the John Labatt arena with Down & Megadeth as opening bands. I didn't care for down at all but Megadeth sounded great even though I've never been a fan of theirs.
The only thing I didn't like about the concert is that it was in such a huge arena, and my seat was on the complete opposite end of the arena from the stage, the view of the stage wasn't nearly as good as when I saw Black Sabbath for the first time in February 1994 at the State Theater in Detroit, MI. on the Cross Purposes tour with the Iommi-Butler-Tony Martin-Bobby Rondinelli line-up, with Morbid Angel & Motorhead opening. It was in such a small narrow concert hall at this concert it was by far the loudest concert I've ever been to. I could barely hear anything for 3 days afterward.
So I'll take a louder than Hell, with a great view of the stage, barebones concert like the 1994 concert any day over an extravagant huge arena
concert where you practically need a telescope to even see the stage. I wish they would have added some extra amplifiers onstage to make up for the much larger arena at the 2007 concert in Canada. Because from what I could see it looked like the exact amplifier set up they had used in 1994 at the State Theater in Detroit. But I'm still glad I finally got to see my favorite line up of the band.
Fantastic story. I saw them on the same tour and Megadeth absolutely killed!
I absolutely do !! When I grew up we got to see all the best shows!!!!
Fortunate enough to be at the Heaven and Hell show in Toronto. First time seeing any of them. A concert I'll never forget.
No doubt.

Good question. Jump on his Livestream and ask him. I'm sure he'd love to answer.
