My sister lives in Stockbridge! I was staying with her for two weeks during the Festival, but didn’t see you there, although given your daily schedule that’s not surprising. Just a few blocks away, given that map. I would always catch the bus into town (or taxi if I could find one depending on how late I was for the first show of the day). Sometimes I’d walk back though. It’s quite a nice walk at 1 or 2am (sometimes through Cowgate carnage or New Town messiness), but it’s all downhill! My midnightly constitutional.
I did come to see the show and when you were hanging out in the room beforehand you approached me and asked if you knew me from previous shows. I’ve been to a few of your shows but certainly not loads, so it was so cool that you remembered an unremarkable face. It was really nice.
And the show is really good. Looking forward to seeing it in a comedy club setting when you release it on here rather than an attic. Still I suppose Nottingham gave you practice for the really low Counting House ceiling.
FWIW I’m really interested in the “behind the curtain” stuff. Not gossip or anything, but I really like the nuts and bolts of being a comedian (like ComComPod used to be), and I’ve enjoyed the joke writing and workshopping videos you’ve done before. Any more of those would be amazing.

I've been flattering myself by thinking that I just might be able to get on stage, survive 30 seconds with at least one laugh from the audience (with me or at me) and then scurry off. I think I might've been too kind to myself judging by the enormous amount of work you put in. In either case, I do look forward to a new special and you are still one of my absolute favourite comediennes.

Hi Jim! Happy to brighten up the day! Do you mean the practice recordings? Yeah, they're very repetitive, and dispersed with me talking to myself. Or do you mean the previews, or everything? I suppose it's the difference between a sketch and a finished painting.

Lovely to hear from you, and also a bit of the behind the screen of your process. I used to teach and shaping things in your head into a coherent, interesting and nicely flowing story is a big part of what I did then. Depending on your style, lots of note taking, cooking them in your head while taking a stroll, or a shower, ... story telling in its different forms.

@@DianeSpencercomedian Nope: computers, programming, math, that kinda thing 🤓 not what you'd typically think of as storytelling. But surprisingly, good storytelling applies there too.

I think you did a splended job conveying what goes into this, and how it feels to go through it. I've always loved your candid explanations of how the routines are formulated and evolved. Comedy is an art that is practiced, and to that, you _COMMIT!_ ^‿^
Wow, what a lovely comment, thank you so much. Communication is so important to me - I wanted to enable people to feel like they were there. Of course a lot of comics go to the fringe and get absolutely wasted for a month 🤣🤣 which is another method too!! But this was my method and I'm so glad you enjoyed it.

You always appears to be so straight and honest and it has become so obvious to everyone as to how corrupt the news is nowadays.
There are some great private news channels. I’m sure many of them would appreciate your great input.
My theory is, try to get honest voices into the frey! But in fairness I have gently course corrected away from news at the moment. It's not my wheelhouse.
