  • Shadow Child Protection Minister Kerrynne Liddle has pushed for more transparency on the government’s additional funding to initiatives which were meant to reduce crime in Alice Springs.
Violence erupted in Alice Springs over a family dispute, sparking riots within the city which resulted in the Northern Territory government implementing a youth curfew.
“We’ve certainly seen big announcements on Central Australia and a lot of money put towards efforts to reduce crime, reduce antisocial behaviour, and increase the safety of all Central Australians,” she told Sky News Australia.
“But what we’ve seen is some pretty poor delivery and some poor outcomes.
“I’ve been asking for some time for information how decisions were made about how all of that additional money was going to be used and who it was going to, but also information on what has been the outcomes today, some progress.”

We don't need more money or more programs. We need judges to lock the crims up and teach them the consequences of their actions. This is an Australia wide problem. We need better judges.

Pretty simple isn’t it. Would you steal a car if you knew it was 10 years jail even for your first offence?
Sounds harsh? I’m not wanting people to go to jail for 10 years for stealing cars, I’m wanting them not to do it.

Maybe get some of the finest judges in the country, you know the ones from the high court who have shown such great judgement when it comes to pedos and murders from overseas. I am sure they will solve this 😂

Every other organisation, that receives government funding, is required to give proof of meeting outcomes and is audited on a regular basis to ensure funds are being correctly used - why do aboriginal organisations get millions of dollars and have no accountability?

Get outta here, that sounds like a plan that just might work, but it needs some fine tuning. Lets just add a few bells and didgeridoos, some welcoming smoke and mirrors, maybe a campfire or two for the romantically inclined, obscene amounts of tax payers money and ta-da, i think we've got a winner. Now the only thing to do is give this plan a name. Any suggestions?

The only way you will make a difference is to break the cycle. The kids need to be removed from dysfunctional and unsafe homes and housed in a safe environment. Not removed from their mob but facilities build within their communities that would give the kids a safe place to live, have a routine, regular meals and clothing, schooling that not only provides the basics but also teaches them about their respective cultures, values and language and to instill some pride and hope.

Where are the services for aboriginal communities? LNP cut the funding is what happened. Forcing people's out there rual communities into alice springs. They cant even get council funding for basic house hold waste removal. Let alone have street names or numbers.
These rual communities are not little places they are small towns of upto a 1000 plus people.
Where dose the funding go? To big city centers like alice springs and Darwin
