I’m taking an American Ethnicities course in college right now (thank god I go to a school where this class isn’t canceled) and this movie/interview fits right in to what we’re studying at the moment. I am Latina and I have to do this same type of thing all of the time. I have had to put on this type of act at work and school. But lets be clear it happens most of the time at work. Everything is put together in a way to try to keep a job. I am really looking forward to seeing the movie. It is a bit of a shock to see someone talk so openly about this.

Blazing Saddles was Gene Wilder and Cleavon Little. Pryor was the film's co-writer and was slated to play the role, which was eventually played by Little.

Pryor was certainly a massive contributor to the film's making, so I'd say Kim's comment is just as valid. I recall that Brooks was nervous about the language, but Pryor insisted it needed to be there because the point it was making needed to be there. Hate is an ugly thing and should be portrayed as such, even in comedy.
Pryor and Wilder made four movies as actors together, and while I was young and don't remember all of them well, I'm sure pointing one finger or another at racism would have been a shared theme. Now I suppose I have a few things to add to my watch list.

I saw American Fiction the other night. It is fantastic and makes you think. Jeffrey Wright was so good in this role.
This movie is one of my new favorites!!! I LOVED IT!!! The acting… the story… and Jeffrey Wright is amazing in this film. The message is so clear… and amazing!!! This film is a must see!!!

Well they aren't ignored and the media talks about them a disproportionately large amount.

My great aunt who raised me worked the hospital as dishwasher and on her off days she cleaned white peoples houses and when she talk to them the tone of it made it sound she was beneath them !! However we were never on any type of government assistance !! But as I got older and understood how the world worked to this second it breaks my heart to know that women who born in 1909 felt like she needed to bow down in order to keep a job because it was a race thing that was going on!! And I was homeless for quite sometime if for nothing else to keep my dignity intact and during those times I all but starved to death because I wouldn’t dare beg for anything or bow down to anyone just to survive another day !!God her beauty soul !!

In literature, the Song of Solomon by Morrison is THE great American novel (imho). It is one of the greatest pieces of literature I've ever read (and I read a LOT). She writes the best ghost stories and her prose reads like poetry. A true master of her craft.
So many of her books fall into that category. This world is a better place because of her work.
I love the fact that PEOPLE OF COLOR are on television more especially streaming. We need more.

This movie theme would equate to what occurred with Denzel Washington. With all of the superior roles that he has played that were strong and intelligent and memorable, he received the Oscar for portraying a black streetwise crooked cop( which is well beneath his acting abilities).
