    Bedrock Version + Tutorial: • Hopper-ish Speed Item ...
    Description:
V4 provides a significant upgrade to the speed of the system, nearly doubling it (now hopper speed) as well as better stability. This video contains a block by block tutorial for the core components of the system, a brief showcase of the system as a whole, some troubleshooting tips and tricks, and a discussion about compatibility.
This builds on our already very successful design that was even picked up by prominent Minecraft players such as Cubfan135 in his Xibalba mega base storage system.

I love the upgrades to the design. The updates to the overflow are so useful. Excess items are so much easier to redirect to bulk storage silos, composers, etc with the way this is set up. And it just seems easier to incorporate other features than the previous version (it seems like more room to tie in a shulker unstuffer, for example). I like it. I like it a lot.

Hello from r/redstone! Great work on this metamilo! So precise it's crazy. Thanks!
One troubleshooting tip I would offer to anyone having issues is that if built it right, but you're still getting the wrong items in the wrong chests, make sure that all the droppers in the whole thing are emptied out otherwise the defragging is useless!

Awesome build! I just built this on a paper server and it seems to be working wonderfully. I do have a couple notes for people building this that might be useful to know.
I don't know if these were mentioned in the video, as I honestly kind of skimmed it then built it with litematica.
    1. Don't mix shulker boxes and normal items in the input chest. It doesn't make that much of a difference, but I've found that doing so can lead to the dropper elevators getting clogged sometimes. To unclog, you can either just take all the items out of the droppers manually, or you can turn on pause mode and put an item in the now-locked hopper near the bottom corner of the build to drain it out. Again, it doesn't really break it, but it can be kind of annoying
    2. Don't put empty or near-empty shulker boxes into the input chest. If you do, it can jam up the shulker unloader and cause the empty shulker to just stay there instead of being broken. Solution is simply to break the shulker box and replace it with a shulker with items in it.

The left side of the double chest needs to be over the second slice hoppers or the overflow hopper will grab the item first and just send it on.

Found the way my items came in from the hopper elevator the buffer system was bypassed often and made the system click and loose one of the two filtered items.
Raised the hopper elevator to allow addition of a hopper lock when the elevator is active. This caused major delays in sorting... had to finish the unloading before sorting begun in mass.
So a hopper lock disable added when the hopper in question is about half full.

Also if you are using Optifine make sure to remove it when you install litematica, those 2 mods have issues with each other and can cause texture issues and will make using the schematic a pain in the butt.

I saw ilmango recently built this in his peaceful challenge, and pointed towards Rap's video. This just popped up in my suggestions, and I had to watch it. I find this system utterly fascinating and *VERY* clever; a huge upgrade from dropper sorters. I used to play on a paper server, but the admin decided to mess with redstone (more specifically hoppers) to save some MSPT. He set the tickspeed of hoppers to 24 rather than 8, and to "balance" it, the hoppers move 3 items at a time, making a lot of contraptions impossible. Already had other issues with redstone bottlenecking on that server, and knowing this type of sorter is impossible on there tipped me over the edge. Definitely won't be playing that again haha. Still though, this is an amazing bit of kit.

      @metamilo  Před 3 lety +1

Yea, I got tired of playing on public servers where the redstone was always inconsistent. Eventually I convinced some friends to join a realm I created and that's been going for just over 2 years now. The realm doesn't have the best stats but at least it's consistent.

Me and my friends decided to build this on our survival world, couldn't thank you enough, this is really amazing.
It sure should be the new gold standard for general purpose storage rooms!
Edit: also, we built it without the defragmenter (we forgot, and decided to try the system anyway, and it worked quite well), and built on a paper server which you claimed would not work, but it did perfectly.
Hopefully it will stay that way, for now I told them to take it easy with the machine and input all the items in one go and not cut it with new items while it's running, and preferebly in big stacks, if we will have a problem maybe we will make a temp box with a "sort" lever to reduce items variety.
Edit 2: After some problems we decided to build the defragmenter, now it works great, but sometimes if you pass many unmatched items, the lags get really bad, we tried putting composts over all of the hoppers, and it didn't really do anything.

    • @metamilo
      @metamilo  Před 3 lety

Yea, the defragmenter helps cover some edge cases, so it's needed. Also, the lag is likely from blinking redstone. We've been looking into a version that uses subtract mode instead of compare, which should greatly reduce the lag from blinking redstone.

After wanting to do so for months, I started building this two days ago in survival in my Skyblock world, and it's been a blast. I'm still amazed at the ingeniosity behind the concept. Fantastic job on the tutorial Metamilo. I was so proud when I managed to understand why it was failing at this or that point.
One question though: is anyone else a bit annoyed by the fact that up to 5 items will remain in the hopper behind each chest ? It can add up to a lot, and can be quite annoying on some items types. I've been thinking about some way to lock the hoppers when the chests are full, but it's not that simple, as the chest might not be full _but_ might not have room for a given item...
P.S. tweakaroo makes it MUCH easier to build this, even starting from the top.

Hello metamilo, I admire the work you've put into this tutorial and the work you've done with the other guys to make this thing possible.
I would like to know if it would be possible to make something similar, but where the entire mechanisms would be underground (except obviously the elevator and the chests). I do not like to have super high builds and and this mechanism kind of requires that, thus my question. Also, as an added bonus, could there be a lever to activate a shulker box unloader/sorter or not? By this I mean, if it is activated, it would unload the shulker box and put the shulker box in a chest, but if it isn't activated, it will go in a "filled shulker box" chest? :D

This design is so awesome! Thank you so much for sharing this :)
You mentionned that the machine might break with an irregular item input, so i wanted to ask if that could also happen when you chain this system with others. I want to build one big multi-purpose storage system that has a single input for shulkers and items, that first seperates and unloads shulkers (which can already cause some delay in the item flow) and then have some "normal" single item sorters add bulk storage for things like stone, sand and dirt, before eventually funneling the items into this system. so basically, if i dump in a multitude of items, including ones that may go to pre-chained systems, the item flow would probably be potentially irregular.
before i start construction (because all of this sounds like a lot of hours to build), i wanted to ask your opinion if this would work or that the delay could very likely break the system.

Everything else redstone related works just fine, flying machines, tnt dupers, world eaters, simple item sorters, shulker box loaders, etc. Even when laggy, the machines seem to just slow down to whatever the tick speed is and continue working. Good job..
I have build a sorting system way simpler in Redstone with features:
-It works on all versions and future versions because it uses simple Redstone logic and cuts lag
-it sorts all types of blocks like 64, 16 stacks and even has a chest just for weapons
-sort different items in one chest
-it also comes a bulk item system with light indicator
    - all rows have light indicator system indicating you that row is sorting
    - one row can have different chest on top of each other with different items sorted
    - this build works as modules, so you can make a small version or as big as you want with custom options like integrating small farms or cook items then sort them

For Paper, I think as long as the max-tick-time or max-tick-rate, I forgot the name, is set to 1000 instead of 50, it works, as this setting limits to at most 50mspt, and if it's over it starts skipping ticks

This will help for sure, but it's not a solution. It just means the lag has to get a lot worse before it breaks, but it will still break. Sometimes you can completely disable settings like this by setting them to -1 or 0, not sure if it would work here though.
