- Check out Scott Brosius’ performance in the 1998 World Series that earned him MVP honors.
Brosius had an outstanding series for the Yankees, collecting 8 hits in 17 at-bats while playing very solid defense. Brosius’ best game of the series was Game 3, where he hit 2 home runs, including the go-ahead shot off of Hall of Fame closer Trevor Hoffman that put the Yankees up for good. Brosius propelled the Yankees to their 24th World Championship in franchise history.

Brosius so underrated
I was at the 2001 world series when Brosius homered with two outs in the 9th to tie game 4....the loudest I've ever heard Yankee Stadium.
He did tremendous in this 98 world series. He got it done.
MVP…The Yankees need a guy like him now!
Pure clutch hitting….when it counts in the post season
Brosius not only had a sensational 1998 WS, Brosius was sensational in all 3 playoff rounds in the 1998 postseason.
3 games Against the Rangers = .400 batting average, .400 OBP, .700 Slugging percentage, one home run and 3 RBI's
6 games against Cleveland = .300 Batting Average, .500 Slugging percentage, and also made some nice defensive plays. One home run and 6 RBI's
4 games against the Padres = .471 batting average, .471 OBP, .824 Slugging Percentage, 2 home runs and 6 RBI's
I'm a Mets fan and I believe that's the greatest team I ever seen.
Brosius was an absolute monster in this series. That 3 run bomb off Hoffman was the dagger
That was a bomb dead center. He barreled up a 100 mph heater.
Amazing footage. Watching this live at 6 years old, an age where witnessing greatness comes with no extra baggage, just watching and analyzing the way they move and the excitement in the air. This was a special moment in time
They could play small ball or hit home runs.
I’ve long considered changing my PlayStation ID to Bott Scrosius to pay homage to the legend himself
I’m using it at work for my next password
And he was already having a great postseason coming off an even better regular season.
Brosius was on fire in 1998!!! 🔥
Pride of McMinnville Oregon
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Was in SD wearing a yankee hat ppl were playfully heckling me, brought up Scott Brosius or the 98’ WS and that shut’em up😂
😂😂
He hit homeruns for the yanks.
He was also a world class defender at 3rd base.
@@yankees29 never seen a guy better at the barehanded grab
@@GoBlue_yanks42 he was like a vacuum cleaner over there! Guys like Scotty are what is missing from the Yankees now. We need more guys like him!
Didn't Brosius hit .200 the year before in Oakland?
Unreal.
Yeah, he hit .203 in 1997, and was only a career .248 hitter when he came to the Yankees. Although he regressed mightily in the years after 1998 (although he did have a somewhat strong final season in 2001), 1998 was a special season for him, and it helped carry the Yanks to 125 wins overall and a championship.
@bxnyy28 Gotcha. That's what was special about 1998....every guy in the lineup had a very good year.
They had a 117 OPS+ as a lineup and a 118 ERA+ as a staff. So the team was really well balanced. They had a run differential over 300 as well, so they just crushed teams.
The 1976 Reds were the only modern team that rivals the 98 Yankees, but they were far less balanced. Reds had mediocre pitching but probably the best lineup since 1927...The Reds offense had a 130 OPS+. They were so good that Johnny Bench, the best hitting catcher and the WS MVP, had the worst OPS+ on the team. The whole lineup was between 120 to 150 OPS+. Insane.
Back when cash man actually made moves to improve the Yankees not just sell seats
I'd take Scotty over choker A-Rod anyday
Light years better in the field
Maybe for 1998 but the other years I wouldn't take his bat over A-Rod. What can be said, despite 1999 Gold Gloves being tainted by voters for some reason giving the award for first base to Raffy who became a DH at that point, I'd still say Brosius deserved that GG for his position.
Mvp world serie 1998
125-50 . Need I say more ?
People forget how unhittable Hoffman was considered at the time.
