Remember how not long ago some idiots wants to put Kimbrel over Mo despite his 2018 postseason nearly cost the Red Sox? After what happened to the Phillies in the NLCS, this should end the convo.

That bottom of the 9th wasn't entirely his fault. You had Brosius elect not to throw the ball to 1st base, where he would have most likely been able to turn a double play (as Jay Bell was only about halfway down the line). Luis Gonzalez's walk-off was only a hit because the infield was in.
Fact of the matter is, the Yankees were extremely lucky to have been 2 outs away from a 4th straight championship in 01. Their offense had a terrible series, and the only reason it went 7 games is because of the miraculous comebacks in games 4 and 5.

@@bxnyy28Plus even in these games Mo was there to keep the D-Backs at bay in the extras. Yet the OP acted as if Mo was the sole reason why they lost.

Had the Yankees held on to that game 7 bottom of the 9th, Mariano was gonna be the WS MVP, or maybe co-MVP with Clemens.
People tend to forget that Mariano was SENSATIONAL in that 2001 WS.
But Mariano wasnt perfect in the postseason, as he had that
game 4 in Cleveland in 1997 ALDS when Sandy Alomar Jr hit the game tying home run in the bottom of the 8th inning = Given, the Yankees could have still won that game 4 in the top of the 9th inning, and they could have still won that game 5.
game 7 in Arizona of the 2001 WS = Again, Mariano was SENSATIONAL this WS. And the Yankees had just won 4 of the last 5 WS, so they could have lost one. And Yankees had no business being 3 outs away from winning it all. They should have lost that WS in 5 games to Arizona
Games 4 of the 2004 ALCS = The curse of the Bambino was getting overturned no matter what. And again, the Yankees could have still won that game 4 in extra innings. And they could have still won one of the 3 remaining games afterwards.
People tend to blame Mariano too much for those 3 postseasons.

@@bxnyy28 Yankees in 2001 had no business even being in the WS. Yankees no business being in the ALCS in 2001 either. Oakland with their sensational roster in 2001 should have stopped them in the ALDS.
I dont think ive ever seen such an anemic postseason offense team almost win it all like the 2001 Yankees. They barely scored runs against Oakland-Seattle-Arizona.

Mo just didn’t have the same stuff in the 9th. In the 8th he was throwing 95 plus. His velocity was notably down.
