- Something very different from my usual video games, but it's another subject I'm passionate about. For my first car review, it's my very own 2020 Ford Ranger XLT. I talk about my likes and dislikes and the accessories I have added so far. Let me know what you all think.

I’ve got a 2019 XL 2WD in the same color with a tonau cover like your ! I bought mine used with 4,250 miles or so ! The previous owner bought it nov. 2019 & died not long after that ! The dealer bought it back from his heirs & sold it to me in Aug. 2020 ! I like it ! It also has the towing package ! Thanks for the video !
Just picked up my 2021 ranger xlt. Same truck you have but mine is 2 wheel drive. I absolutely love this truck!
Thanks for posting this. I was happy to hear that Ford has an optional tune for it.
I'm going to have one installed as soon as I get more miles on the truck. It's recommended you have 5K on it before installing the tune. Once I do, I'll give my review.
I always thought the Ranger was a bit dull looking, but the way you optioned it and with the bug shield and wind vents, it looks fantastic. This is probably the first Ranger I've seen that I think looks great.

Took me awhile to like this new ranger until I saw some lifted ones
Just turned 750 miles on mine and i did get the ford tune at dealership before delivery to me. I have drove 2 other non tune rangers and will say it is a very nice bump in power and a lot more torque. i have the fx4 crew cab and love the fox shocks vs regular suspension. Equipped with nav. and technology package it is all i need in a truck that will fit in my garage.

I just traded my mustang in on a 2021 xlt with the tremor package in cyber orange. Cross shopped with others but loved the ecoboost and 10 speed plus it has a 7500lb towing capacity vs 5000lbs for the ZR2.

I like the Ford Ranger and like your review. If I were Ford, I would copy the darkened emblem and step bar you added and make them standard. They look so cool. I would also darken the emblem on the steering wheel. Great video. And yeah nice parking.
I was thinking about darkening the emblem on the steering wheel. Time to look into that, lol.
This video helped me out to make up my mine, we have only 1 car at home at this time but my boy is starting pre k this year so I have to buy another car, our currently SUV will be my wife’s ride and I’ve been watching tons of truck videos, I like Ford and I think this ranger is a really really good choice, looks awesome and it has a lot of off road capabilities, probably more than what I really need. I leave in Las Vegas and love to go out to the desert so this will be a good truck for me. Thank you for this video.

THIS TRUCK is NICE. I TOO would get a tail-gate dampener for the tailgate. I AM CURIOUS TO KNOW that THIS TRUCK LOOKS TO HAVE THE 302A EQUIPEMENT GROUP, DOES THAT INCLUDE HEATED OUTSIDE MIRRORS?
I like the Ranger anyway, but thats one of the best looking that I've seen!

Im back and forth on the XLT and the Lariat. In your opinion is the Lariat worth the extra 5k? What does it have that the XLT doesnt?
I have a 2019 super cab model with the fx4 package and chrome package I love it it's the best mid size truck I've ever owned I couldn't be happier with it

The only thing that could be better is if we could have the ranger raptor in the USA other than that I'm well pleased with mine

Good choice! I'm currently trying to help my dad find a 2019-20 used Ranger 2WD extended cab, but they're like finding hen's teeth in this crazy current used car market. He'd probably be happy with an XL but I'd hope he'd at least go for the XLT to make it more marketable down the road. My favorite thing is they all have the same engine/transmission combo no matter what configuration you go with, so the performance doesn't suffer even if you go basic on the trim. His last midsize Toyota truck lasted him 26 years so it's tough to find something in this class to take its place.
For sure! Those older Toyota trucks are amazing and I’m sure the newer ones are fine as well, it’s just that the new tacos are a little small in the cabin for me. You are so right; having one power train option is a good way to go for those on a budget! I haven’t seen many used Rangers yet, but I’m sure they’ll start popping up within the next year.
I have a 2020 fx2 for sale
Im currently debating between an Fx4 lariat and a Ridgeline rtle. What made you go for the Ranger over the Ridgeline? The advantages of the Ridgeline for someone like me who doesnt off road are numerous. However, I really like the powertrain and higher driving position of the Ranger. How are you finding the ride with the fx4 shocks? Does your kid have enough room in the back?
Just got a similar 2021 XLT Sport Crew Cab in Cactus Grey. Kinda wish I opted for the FX4 package, but I don't do a ton of off-roading and didn't see the need. Been looking for trucks for literal years (almost pulled the trigger on a '21 Ram Big Horn Night Edition), but after some contemplation, and high gas prices coming, I decided the Ranger was enough truck for me. 2nd day of ownership and enjoying it.

Why a 4 door opposed to the 2 door? Is the box length not an issue for you?

Great looking truck, love the gray color.
I bought the 2020 sport package in red. Love the truck so far. It was a loaner vehicle so i had 2600 miles on it and they put in a spray in bedliner for 500 bucks. Im still not getting the mileage out of it. We just went through a wicked 2 weeks of winter storms I had to put 350 lb of weight in the bed and it handled much better in ice and snow. Hopefully we wont have that again .

It does! Not with a whole lot of room. Have about 12-18 inches to spare.
I have the FX2 and have been very happy. I would have liked to have had the fx4 but maybe next time. That engine is great, so much fun. Drove my buddies Tacoma and ya it’s great but that transmission is outdated. It’s sluggish and you don’t really notice it until you have driven this Ranger. I expect they will be updating that in the near future. How did you do the emblems black? Was it just an overlay on top of the blue?
Yeah, they are just high quality decals that you very carefully put over the top of the blue emblems. It was a far cheaper route than replacing the emblems entirely.
How is the sound system in the xlt fx2?? Thinking about getting a 2020

Sharp looking truck. I'm between the F150 and the Ranger. I don't really need anything the F150 has, just prefer the size because I haven't had a smaller truck since 2009 with the Colorado. But for what I actually NEED, the Ranger is perfect. it fits in my budget, has enough power and features, and looks pretty badass.
I'm thinking XLT with the Tremor package. Soft tonneau and wind deflectors.
I bought the 19 Lariat trim 4x4 sport when they first came out. Had 3 production issues one pretty severe but they mostly resolved. The first 10k mile was complete hell but the last 26k miles real nice. Main issue the parking sensors, i live in northern Ohio and if the parking sensors get snow or dirt on them it sucks. When temp gets below freezing ice forms so anytime you drop below 5 mph the sound alarm goes off over riding the radio.
Oh man.... I can't even imagine the headache that caused! I'm glad it's been fixed though. I do find it annoying when the parking sensor chime when I'm backing up interrupts my phone calls...

Nice truck. What did you buy it for? Looking at getting one sometime, but there's practically none in my area as of right now.
I put a dampener on the tailgate, bug shield, window visors/vents, nerf/step bars, and pivot box in the bed so far. I have a new grill coming in the mail soon. I plan on making a video about the pivot box and grill soon.
The few add-ons that you did made the truck look great. Im looking to buy a 2021 and may copy what you did.👍
Go for it! I recently added a new grille with a light kit that looks pretty good, at least to me, lol.

Are there heating/AC ducts under the driver and passenger seat for rear seat passengers?
Yes there are.
I found that weird about the seat to. I just bought the same truck minus the 4 wd but I went for the optional locking diff in case I get in trouble.
I just purchased the same truck and package. Enjoying this truck! You mentioned upgrading the audio system. What are you planning on going with for that upgrade?
Not sure yet, but I'd like to at least add a small sub. Not sure where it will go. It's something I'm going to have to research after I do a few more accessories.

Nice truck, but why did you sell the ridgeline?
Just traded my 2012 Silverado in on a 2020 Ranger and I couldn't be happier. More MPG, not as much power but overall, but I love it.
Looking at the 2023 was leaning towards the Tacoma for reliability but I drove the Ranger and maybe changing my mind yours looks perfect without being over done 👍. I’d like to know if it’s been reliable now.
Truck looks great just picked mine up Tuesday Lariat same color..Would you mind telling me where you got the side steps and what was the model number...I think they look better than the stock ones..which are on indefinite back order...

I got my tonneau cover from real truck.com for around $250. It wasn't a bad deal for a low profile cover. The steps were very easy to install and that was my first time installing my own. Good luck, and I hope you love your new truck!

I have a 2020 black Ranger XLT. You said you put decals over the Ford badges on the grill and tailgate. Looks amazing. Are the decals durable? If so, where can I get a couple of them?
Yeah they are super durable. Went through an automatic wash many times and had no issues. I got them on Etsy for pretty cheap.
@@EmperorFoxx Thanks for the tip. I installed my decals a couple days ago and they look great! Definitely required a lot of patience. I also got a set of stainless black platinum letter inserts for the tailgate RANGER stamp and installed those today. They look amazing. They would be perfect on your truck with that magnetic metallic/gray color.

Awesome. I had a '96 back in the day and it had the little 2.3 in it. It was a workhorse! Now I have the same engine with a turbo strapped on with a lot more power!
We’re did you get those decals? We’re they easy to install
I got them on Etsy. Were pretty easy to install if you have a steady hand. Be very sure you have them lined up before sticking on because once they stick, they stay on there.
It looks great. What is your advise for someone trying to decide between this and Ridgeline?
Drive them both, I'd say. The Ridgeline is much more refined on the road with great handling, a great commuter truck. The Ranger is more of a old school feel to the handling, but oddly quick. It also has a much larger after market and ford accessory support than the Ridgeline.
Ranger=tows 7500 lbs. Ridgeline=tows 5000 lbs

Bought a 22 Ranger xlt carbonized gray fx4 with black appearance package...how's the fx4 shocks for everyday driving? I'm thinking of getting the fox shocks
The FX4 are perfectly fine for everyday driving. That being said, I did get the fox 2.0 leveling kit done on my truck, and am enjoying it a lot. A bit pricey though. I’ll be doing a doing a 3 year review here soon.

That's pretty good! I'm averaging 21-22 myself.
I can recall getting around 22 with my old '99 4.0 V-6/5-spd. manual. I had a 35 mile one-way commute on (mostly) highways to get to work. The point is, I pretty much nixed the new Ford Ranger from my list out of the gate when I was truck shopping last summer. Reason? No V-6; I would have at least expected 28 m.p.g. out of the Eco 2.3 four cylinder. That, and I swear that the new cabin is smaller than the previous generation when I tested it out a year earlier. It still is a nice looking truck however, and capable, but I just don't think that the small four-banger is going to hold its own versus a large six cylinder motor, especially from a longevity standpoint.

I have a 2021 Ford Ranger XLT Fx2 Package and man what a great truck to drive and really beat up. I already have almost 40,000 miles on it. Like how they are meant to be driven

I had a 2017, the first year for the gen 2. Even though I loved the Ridgeline's comfort, excellent ride, quickness, and mpgs, it just lacked accessories for customization. After market parts were slim and Honda wouldn't warranty any of them unlike Ford. When I did put a leveling kit on the Ridgeline, it ended up making the CV boots leak and was forced to remove the kit. By then the Ranger had just come out and it looked amazing to me.

Where did u buy the black or gray ford logos the one in the back and front?
I got them on eBay for about $20. I think you can find them on Etsy as well. They are just high quality decals. Full replacement logos cost close to $200, but you can find them on eBay.

I just got a 2 door Ranger FX4 Lariet today, really nice truck!! It's also the same color as the one you have! It replaced a 2017 Jeep Rubicon.

What packages did you get? Agreed on the issues with leather.
I got the FX4 , trailer tow, and sports appearance packages on top of the XLT trim package.

I thought I would be an easy decision buying a new truck (Tacoma) but then I test drove the Ranger and I really, really liked it. That engine is so peppy, it just brought a big smile to my face.
Agreed! It was my favorite of the power train options in the segment.
How do you add the dampener for the truck bed?
It was pretty easy and only took maybe 10-15 minutes. Directions were clear and easy to follow, just need a wrench or socket.
Looking at the Supercab version same model and color. I didn't realize it had heated seats. Does it use regular gas?
Yes, it uses regular gas. From what I hear, Ford can do a Performance tune for 91+ octane and you’ll gain like 40hp though

Yeah the performance tune will push an extra 40hp and 50 lbs of torque with 91 octane. The original tune works fine regular octane.

What made you choose the Ranger over the Ridgeline? I am on the fence between Ranger, Ridgeline, or F-150 and just curious what made you choose the Ranger. Thanks in advance! Great video and very nice looking truck!
More flexibility with mods and more truck like feel when driving it. Plus the Ranger's powertrain is by far my most favorite powertrain I have driven, especially in a truck. The Ridgeline is more refined on the road for sure and is a more comfortable ride, and honestly you can't go wrong with it. Good luck on the new truck purchase!

Good shout on the decal for the black, the blue for me doesn’t fit my colour scheme so will do the same
A go though of the electronics.. GPS, what it sounds like.. Ect. How doe it doing towing.. Ect..
We just bought a new one as well, wife found her 2018 to big to park but Ioved it, the back seating is its downfall, they don’t lay down flat enough plus when the seats come forward they just get in the way of putting anything back there. I’m sure Ford could have done 100 percent better.
For what you get with this truck it’s priced much too high.
I agree the back seats could have used more work and options for sure! And that's a fair complaint about the price, you can get a mid trim full size for that price, but it's just priced competitively with other mid sized trucks. Although it's XL trim 4x2 is one of the cheapest in the segment and it has the same powertrain which is pretty good. Some people just like their trucks bigger for that price. To each their own.
all trucks in this segment are pretty much the same price, no difference between ford, chevy or toyota, for resale value I would buy the Tacoma..
@@jarochito73 not talking about all trucks priced about the same, that’s not my point, point in question is trucks are getting out of this world, just take a look at Dodge, when one comes in on the Ford lot the sales manager just shutters as they depreciate so much in the first year even with low miles.
@@gabmik38 agree prices are getting out of proportion, I almost bough a Tacoma in 2018 and it was priced at 27,500 with license and taxes. It was the mid trim. Now I checked the 2021 and the very same truck goes over 34k not including tax and license..I like the rangers look but I’ll wait a couple year and get a depreciated still newer truck.

I bought a 2020 ranger xl with the stx, fx4 and towing package, it was the cheapest truck I can buy with a rear locker. Unfortunately, after 2500 miles, 2 months, I had to take it back to the dealer because of a weird noise underneath and some funky smells coming in the cabin..... I also had a Ridgeline, bought it brand new back in 2006, loved that truck
Im looking at the ranger. What did they find wrong?
@@lukemalloy2488 they gave me a letter from the manufacturer stating that the rattling noise is normal and for the smell, didn't find anything so they deodorized the ac....
Interesting. I don't hear any weird noises under my truck, maybe something is loose? Regarding that smell; does it smell like gas? Could be oil dilution. A rare occurrence in turbo charged vehicles.
@@EmperorFoxx I have a rattling noise and it comes out 2-4 times a week, usually in the morning.... smell like gas and sometimes rotten eggs...so I have no idea what's going on
Hiw is the mpg in the city amd how are the back seats as far as comfort with 3 adults and a 90lbs dog? I was gonna get the ridgline but I been reading that people get 13-16 mpg in the city which is to low for me..I drive 60 miles to work everyday 50% city and 50% highway
When I had my Ridgeline, I never got below 19 mpg, I usually averaged 21. On my Ranger I have been getting 20 city and 28 highway.
That's pretty good then for a truck. It's just that I been getting mix answers on the mpg..my wife wants the hybrid rav 4 but I still want the ridgline bit not 100% convince about mpg though. Some people telling me they are getting like 15-16 pmg in city and other ones like u 18-19 in tje city which I think I will be happy with

Hopefully picking a 2021 xlt same color as u. Looks so sick. My first car was a 94 ranger 4cly. 22 years ago. Oh I’m getting old. Wow how far they came along!!!
Traded my 2000 Ranger in on a new 2020, the 2000 had a powerful v6 and got 25mpg......the 2020 can't get 20mpg on a good day (usually 17ish) and is a SLUG, especially around town, feels like it shifts into high @ 20mph.
Buy the GMC Canyon, wish I did !
