    Always check for coolant flow through the bypass pipe that goes over the top of the engine to the coolant reservoir. There should be a constant flow. If there is not, you need to clear it out. They get plugged up where it attached to the water pump housing. Also chech the "hollow bolt" that it attached to. Mine was plugged. This WILL cause overheating.

    I still think it is crazy that they stuck a northstar in an "old person" car. The DTS scoots. It is a smooth running, great sounding, sophisticated V8 that was originally designed for racing. I love my 2008. I want another one, but the performance or platinum version. I have a luxury 3.

    From what I’ve read by 2006 the North Star engine got upgraded head bolts and the head gasket failure issue was solved. Obviously the early North Star motors up to the early 2000s were prone to head gasket failure from what I read 2006-2011 are not prone and only way to have head gasket failure is if you ignore a water pump leak or the common plastic t and hoses on the top back side of motor and the car overheats. Also never use green antifreeze that will cause issues

    • @Marty09933

      You can use any kind of coolant you want as long as you make sure to flush it completely first! Don't be a jackass and mix "the green" with the evil dex cool unless you want a gummy mess. My suggestion --get rid of that dex cool crap on ANY and EVERY vehicle ASAP!

    • @rm25088
      @rm25088 Před 3 měsíci

      some people convert them because they still think dex cool is a bad coolant. It isn't, and it is what GM uses in all there vehicles. They changed the formula some time ago.

    @dempsgiles7055 Před rokem +1

    Hey Marty, could you notice any obvious symptoms of a blown head gasket with that car before you sealed it? Was it smoking? Running rough? Untraceable coolant loss/milky oil?

    • @Marty09933
      @Marty09933  Před rokem +4

      Hi Demps Giles no nothing noticeable it would just get hot no smoke no leaks it would just get hot and it would be low on coolant and like I mentioned she had already taken the car to another mechanic and the mechanic said it had a blown head gasket but she didn’t believe that Mechanic so I went to Harbor freight and bought that kit to check for blown head gasket and it confirmed it and after I use that sealant, it’s been working good since then thanks for watching. I really appreciate you.

      Hi 448raf I hope it’s just thermostat but try bleeding the system burping it even flushed the heater core maybe plugged up. and do a combustion check on the radiator. They sell the kit at Harbor freight tools to see if you have a blown head gasket. Hope everything works out brother and thank you for watching my videos. I really appreciate you.

    Hey Marty... you should only use that blue stuff if you are planning on getting rid of the car.... would not use that if you are planning on keeping the car... yes it will close up the crack..
    but...it will get into other areas internally.. like the radiator and cause other problems... dont use this if you plan on keeping your caddi...just a thought...

      They did, better head studs etc. But if running while over heated like she probably did them you can still cause a prob with head gasket no matter the car/model. And in time the gasket itself can fail, it was just very common on pre 2005 model Cadillacs because of the bolts themselves

I lost most coolant and replaced it without further coolant loss. Ran fine for 2 weeks now started to run hot again. No coolant loss. 1 year ago i had new water pump, belt and thermostat and since no coolant loss has occurred and everything else is good,i am going to replace thermostat again due to Suspicion it may have been faulty or damaged by running it hot that day.
