I have watched over 50 different videos and it wasn't until I saw this particular one that help me solve my issue. Thank you
I completely agree thanks to this man it may save many people lots of money
You counted?
bro SAMEEEEEEEEE 2023
How did you solve it?
I'm having this exact issue, oil n water aren't mixing but mechanic says I need a head n block when this is exactly what's going on with me, the overflow bottle just bubbles over when car gets hot cuz the engine burns out the coolant/ water very fast.....so no head n block just a head gasket needed 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 thank u
This is why you do not continue driving down the road if your temp gauge starts climbing. Pull over immediately! Tou will blow a head gasket if you don't!
I have a 94 LT1 that was acting up and I was told it was a head gasket….it really was a failing water pump. HG was just fine! Take your car to a trusted mechanic so you are treated fairly. Good video.
I got new head gasket and water pump. Same thing...
@Jimmyx68 I've replaced the pump thermostat etc new v belt hg was done just over a year ago head skimmed oressure tested I think I've a blocked rad ..lower hose is always cold amd lower section of rad .
The last picture makes it clear for me what is wrong with my Cosworth 24v. I only guessed until now. Thanks for making this video!
Great pic at the end explaining why there are SOOO many symptoms.
Best video and best explanation on this that I have ever seen. Well done.
Good info just what I was looking for plain and simple truth best out there .. thank you very much Mr.mechanik
explanation, symptoms and how to check... good video
I love how everyone ragging on how this is a "Chrysler", granted the 2.7 engines are crap and the transmissions. But that engine is Mitsubishi made, a blown head gasket can happen to any engine depending on the circumstances
Mitsubishi engines are known for blowing white smoke. Look up Montero Sports and eclipses. Junk.
@@lotus956 not even close to being junk. No one wants to take care of them because they're lesser known.
Chryslers are still junk lol
Simple explanation. Thank you
Very good video and picture explaining different points of leaks, good job thanks
thank you! You're the only person who shows that in youtube,i don't find any video like yours!!
THX!! Big Bravo!!!!!!
Oliver R. Because most people don't like antifreeze all over the ground...
Yep, foaming of coolant, coolant in oil, oil in coolant & lift your oil cap & see if it's milky looking on the inside of Cap.
Luckily I've never had a blown head gasket or cracked head.
I drive an old but still beautiful 02' Blazer ZR2 4.3 Vortec & its a strong engine. I would like to buy an old 1980's Buick or Olds.
I love those old cars, they just float
Thanks for the vid! That chart at the end is really helpful.
I’m glad you know how this stuff works man good video appreciate the shared knowledge hopefully my Subaru doesn’t have a bad head😰😰😰
I came cause of my 2011 Outback. Do you have coolant filling up your reservoir and overflowing?

Thank you for knowledge keep it running
Great video. The diagram at the end was very useful too
real helpfull.. every vid i watch says my head gasket is blown in some way. but I don't get those bubbles.. which just means I have a leak somewhere that's making it not keep pressure. your vid is more helpful then you know. thanks =)
Thanks for the info about the water pump and how it is supposed to work
Why tf did it take a drunk me and this man’s nice accent to finally understand a closed coolant system
Right!!!
Omg thank you man I been trying to figure out wtf is wrong with my car and u just answered my question thank you
Was it overheating fast or slow?
Did you fix

I could tell you from firsthand experience I changed a head gasket for a Honda Accord years ago. They are such a pain to get to depending on the year the vehicle they’re not even worth fixing.
Nice job Sir so that shows a little thing can cause a great big problem for the engine
AH HA!... that explains why I didn't see coolant in my oil. There are two sides where the hole could be in blown head gasket. Thank you. I think you just helped me identify that I DO have a blown head gasket after-all. I've been told repeatedly i don't have one because there is no water/coolant in the oil... nor do I have any white smoke or water coming out of the tail pipe.. yet I keep losing a little bit of water... and it has boiled out like that. I've replaced radiator, clutch fan and other things to help keep the vehicle cool.. yet.. problem persisted. Awesome.
Nicholas Maietta ....I have the same issue. coolant is lost n bubbles come out of radiator. but oil is clean.
j
What the fuck does "j" stand for?
god is a Sciopath cheezy lol
+Nicholas Maietta - How did you solve it??? My Dad have an S10 Truck and when I install an Oil Catch Can, instead of Catching Oil, it caught Coolant instead. Every 400 Miles, we get about 2 Ounces, which is a lot of Blow-by :((((. I'm trying to solve it, do you have any tips or what have you done to solve yours??? THANKS !!!
Does it happen everytime you have compression leaking into coolant?
Great video THANK YOU SO MUCH !!!!!!
Any time, subscribe.
Thank you great video well explained.
best explanation ever.......Thank you!!!
Dude!!!! Good luck with that.
All right now that we explained a cracked head gasket, let's spray some cold water on there and show him what a cracked block looks like
Ha! That's exactly what I was thinking 😂
Jason Butko 🖒😂
Jason Butko ahahahaha
Lmao
Dummy you act like the water is ice cold
I still would say that every time the piston moves down it sucks coolant into the cylinder, which means it will go into the oil and foul the plug, which it then would miss fire...right??? I have a good question....if you installed a new radiator, and the coolant tank for the transmissions leaks...and coolant gets into the transmission...who pays for the transmission rebuild, because the radiator it the part that failed.???
so true that's exactly what happened to me
Fascinating video thanks! ❤️
I had exactly same problem with your with my mazda 626. My water pump had died. I replaced it, it is perfect now.
Was your car overheating? I think I have the same issue
Thanks. Great video!
Never never never put cold water in hot engine wrong
This amount of cold water is nothing relative to total water in system
Putting cold water in a hot engine will blow head gasket. never add water unless engine is running
@Donalld Allhands Yes it does. Car should be running!
How you know he didn't let the engine cool down?
@Donalld Allhands Wasn't talking to you.
Do you believe in any off this head gasket liquids?and if you do which one the best?
I love this useful information
I have a 2006 Acura TSX. I noticed coolant spill and smoke on near the radiator cap although the cap is on. I started the car without the cap off and after a few minutes there were bubbles and smoke coming from the radiator hole where the cap goes on. No overheating but this is not normal. Blown head gasket?
Thank you for this video!!!!!!!!!!
I know this video is 4yrs old but I hope someone will see my comment. I have been having the same issues on my PT Cruiser. Not one radiator shop will listen to what I have to say they ALWAYS state because its a pt cruiser it is the head gasket. My car has passed 2 compression tests, 2 pressure tests, the old radiator had a 6in crack so I bought another radiator and replaced it I also bought and replaced, the thermostat is new, the thermostat housing is new, radiator hoses are new the fan unit is new, the reservoir is new also the temp sensor gauge is new. There is no milky stuff in my oil, the car does not smoke. The car does not run rough, and IT NEVER OVER HEATS. The temp gauge stays at half or below. There are NO COOLANT LEAKS. But yet, after driving it and then turning it off you can hear the bubbles. I have been burping the system for months due to the old radiator having a crack. Sometimes the reservoir is half full sometimes after days of driving it will fill. 😞
So what is the issue? I do not believe it is my head gasket. It has passed too many tests that has proven no head gasket issues.
WHAT AM I MISSING?
Clogged heater core is one mechanics sometimes miss. Your comment is old though. Is that what happened?
Is a pt cruiser lmao
Turn on your heater, full blast and run it honestly sometimes you have air pockets in your system especially after changing your radiator I did that and it fixed my problem
When the gasket problem my water radioter same like your video...wht shold i do? Metal gasket or papar gasket?
Thank you sir, great video!
Glad it was helpful!
I changed the thermostat on my 99 Expedition, and it immediately started overheating. By the time I saw it the engine had overheated to the red spot. When I leave it on Drive, it overheats. I haven't seen it overheat on neutral yet. I don't have a radiator cap. I just have an overflow tank w/ a cap. How do I run the test to see if I blew a gasket please? Note: The head gasket had less than 100 miles on it.
It could also be a bad intake manifold gasket letting air get in. This will also likely cause some coolant to mix into the oil making it overheat very quickly
At first my car wasn't getting hot and it was losing antifreeze two weeks later it has a slight moisture on the intake area it's still leaking a little antifreeze but not all the time and it's hot now. Does anybody know what's going on with this? It's a water pump? Is this a thermostat?
This does not mean anything, Toyota 4.0 V6 has a big water pump and that water is being pushed around in the system like crazy. as soon as I start my Land Cruiser it makes same and shoot water outside. No compresion lost and engine is runing great.Ok in this video is obvious that there is a problem, but the water coming out without bubbles is nothing to worry about when temp is start raising.
@@The_Touring_Jedi water do come out as it is pressurized when car reaches optimal temp that's what the rad cap is for but water boiling and reservoir full to the brim like in the video is a sign to replace head. machining is only good as long as the warpage on the head does not go beyond the service limit provided by the manufacturer's manual. looking for other causes has no practical relevance at this point.
@@darealblair3262 i have the same problem. Did you sort your out assuming it's 2 years

I have this problem now lmao dude I bought truck from (86 f150) decided to throw like a f350 radiator in it which worked for awhile. well I replaced water pump, timing chain, and removed the thermostat and again this worked for awhile but then my engine got so much pressure I blew the oil pan gasket and since I had to remove engine basically I went ahead and took a look at the head gasket. well past its way out and pretty sure I got some bad rings as I found oil on top of 2 pistons. boiling reservoir was a constant. odly enough one piston looked as though it took on water but there was no milky residue at all and engine looked damn good especially having over 200,000 miles.
Ford Mondeo 2010 Diesel, loosing coolent, then sometime rasiator fan keeps running even after I turn off engine, also engine overheats and can do not accelerate and stalls.
There is no coolent loss under the car, can't see any leak too. What's the problem?
It can also be a leak somewhere, I had that problem , I changed out my water pump , gasket was tore up , eather air was coming in loosing air and water , and it would spill like that . But now it’s changed out and boom no problems now , been doing good my ac gets cold and my heater heats , but every vehicle is different,
Is this on any car that you can check it like this to see if I blew the head gasket, the car isn’t overheating anymore though, I have a 2005 Toyota Corolla not finding many videos on my car just on the 2001 and 2007 cars, Can you help me to figure out what is wrong with my car I also have a coolant leak maybe into the oil pan coolant is leaking out the side of the oil pan , maybe I need a new gasket on the oil pan
Good job Sir thanks
I know lot of people suggest this method to identify a blown head gasket. But I don't know how accurate this is. Modern engines use presurized coolant systems that operate typically above 15psi. This pressure is achieved by the expansion of coolant and when the radiator cap is open, flow of water pump wouldn't be able to keep up with expanding coolant so it would tend to overflow. And again since the desired pressure cannot be achieved the coolant would start to boil and create large amount of water bubbles. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Yes saw leak down pressure test is more precise, for the reasons you stated.
You are 100% correct. Opening the cap doesn’t hold in the pressure of the liquid causing it to boil out any water present in the coolant.
bring any modern car in, open the rad and turn the engine on. wait for a couple minutes then compare. you will have your answer.

I have a coolant leak on an older 97 Dodge Caravan. It is coming out of the exhaust. (Actually the muffler) But the car runs fine as long as I put more coolant in the radiator. No white smoke out of the exhaust. No milky residue in the radiator or in the oil. It's been like this for two years. The vehicle isn't worth the cost of replacing the head gasket. Any suggestions?
Nikola Tesla; before I answer your question does it have a slight miss? Or does the engine idle smooth?
So why when i drain my radiator, and then fill up the coolant reservoir, does my reservoir not drain into the radiator at all?
Can that damage your new water pump that is unable to circulate the water
I have Suzuki Swift 1300cc. The water in the radiator is bubbling and constantly decreasing drastically even when I take the car out for a little while.
nice simple video
Could it be because of a bad radiator cap?
Very good video

My car sorta does that, but the reservoir is always full.?I'm thinking my radiator is clogged.
Hello everybody! My 2003 civic always makes a 2-second air hissing/sucking sound when I shut the engine off. In addition to that, the coolant always fills the reservoir up and doesn't seem to go back to the radiator. If I don't fill the coolant in the radiator up after a long ride or a few short rides, I'll get overheating. Someone told me that there's a leak from the coolant passage through the gasket to the outside. I don't see it mentioned in this video so I'm not sure if it's a thing. And if it's truly is, does anyone know a way to fix it? Does head gasket sealer help in this case? Thanks!
I’m here bcs my side by side is doing exactly what you stated. Did you figure it out?
@@mattwilliams8733 no. I kinda gave up and gave the car to someone xD
You are referring to what is called an external leak which leaks outside of the gasket and down to outside the engine compartment underneath a vehicle leaving a white powdery residue this is the best case scenario out of leaking head gaskets that is remedied by replacing main gasket with absolutely last resort replacement of engine
Thank you
“Feel it up gently”
*jet*
Also my engine is very quiet and no noticeable problems besides the bubbling sound
My coolant flow out from reservoir cap huge amount.what to do
Could this be my issue? Have been dealing with the same mystery problem for months! I take the car to get it fixed. They replace a radiator hose, as well as the radiator cap, and recently, the water pump... But as soon as I start driving uphill or put stress on the car, BOOM. The radiator hose bursts, and I lose heat in the car... Wasted so much money... Had the radiator housing repaired as well... Thanks...
Yes it very well could be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
my old mark 2 golf is loosing a lot of coolant and it has white smoke coming out of the tailpipe could it be a head gasket
suzana ristovic Any time there's white smoke it's definitely a head gasket issue. another thing you should check for is underneath your oil cap.
304SoljerzEntertainment yep was a head gasket i fixed it but i was to late car got overheated so i had to mashine the head but still nothing major also if u put your finger in the coolant and ryb it beetwen fingers if its to slipery u hawe gas in the coolant
Coolant is supposed to be slippery.
Pressure test it first
Could a cracked radiator cause this?
Hey that was a great video I have a chevy express van and I recently replaced the broken water pump and thermostat but then I noticed that only after a long drive I hear the coolant in the reservoir bubble up but I look at the gauge and its not overheating what could it be
Airlock. Bleed cooling system
There’s still air in your cooling system you need to look it up on CZcams
no rubber on rad cap
I'm car has been overheating but since I put water down the radiator it's been good, now I hear air coming from the radiator?can you tell me what that means
This video should be labeled as what NOT to do if you believe that your car has a blown head gasket.
WOW THIS ALL MAKES SENSE. Can a head gasket blown cause exhaust fumes to get inside the cabin of the car. When my head gasket was blown I was always getting HOT AIR that smelled like gas in the cabin, even when I head the AC vents CLOSED. Genius, erudite mechanic. Just genius.
I know this comment is two years old but that sounds like a heater core leaking.
Thank you sir 🇧🇩🤝✔
Your son lol😂 made me laugh when he just put the cap on slanted
This is literally what my integras coolant looks like right now. Last week it was fine now its cloudy AF and swirling and bubbling. Still if you see this its the best outcome for a blown head gasket provided it hasn't overheated and there is no oil in your coolant. If you see cloudy coolant like this stop and park the vehicle and dont drive it unless its to a mechanic to get a new head gasket.
You should be able to change your head gasket on an integra pretty easily.
@@rollthelosingdice its funny cause it wasnt actually the head gasket. i dont understand how or why but i used redline water wetter to see if it really did as claimed. it did lower coolant temp by around 8 degrees instead of the advertised 15-20 or more but had some adverse effects. it caused what looked like oily bubbles in my coolant that resembled a blown head gasket. i actually hydrocarbon tested the coolant after the above post and found nothing. i drained the coolant completely, refilled and drove for 200 miles, then drained again and it quit swirling and bubbling. i ended up finding out the head gasket was fairly new at the time of post because i pulled the head 3 weeks ago to refurbish it due to a burnt exhaust valve. there wasnt any wear on the gasket. i did however find more carbon inside the engine than i have ever seen in anything anywhere. it looked like someone had driven with 16 leaking valve stem seals for the last 50k miles.
I have 1995 toyota camry and i can driv it 20 mins and 2 mins back and it smells hot but no smoking or over heating lights and bubbling in overflo tank and when cool the radiator is full and suggestions what it may be
Jeffrey Hyatt radiator cap change
Hi im from South Africa
I search whole day for a answer. I realy realy realy hope someone can help me.
I got a Fiat 128 rally 1974
The radiator cap vacuum part is gone and have no rubber seal on bottom only big top rubber seal. So the water is going freely to the coolant bottel. The cap is open inside. So the water have no pressure and can go freely back and forward without any valve have to open.
Now.. can this be the reason my kar overhead after so 10 km or in traffic light it get FAST overheat?
Cool the engine down. Then pressure test the radiator and all combustion chambers (remove spark plugs). If you are loosing pressure at the radiator and one or more of the chambers, you have a head gasket leak. If you are loosing pressure at the radiator only but none of the chambers, and no coolant seeps into the oil, then you have either a leaky radiator or a broken water pump gasket. I highly doubt it is your radiator or water pump gasket based on what I observed in your video (revving engine and massive bubbles blow out of radiator cap area)...seems likely a blown head gasket between coolant passages and one of combustion chambers in head.
My relay was bad so I changed it out. But it still says engine over heating right after turning on car that sat for days. Have any ideas how to fix this?
Mines doing same I've changed water pump serviced engine waters been re pressurised, all air pockets pushed out but still doing it iv mentioned head gasket multiple times to garage but he seems to think its not that, cars in garage as we speak its out of my hands. Hi today my car was boiled, when i open my engine.radiator extra tank cap was pop uped.after re fill the radiator it was runing normal condition.i was face this befor two week.will you please advise the reason?
I have the water bubbling sound on my first cold start in my 2013 nissan sentra. It stays for maximum three seconds. If I switchoof and start agin no more sound at all. Again if we wait lets say three hour for engine to cool, we can hear the sound agin in the start.
The fan motor was failed and replaced one month ago.
What could be reason..
Please help..
there may still be air in the inner tubes that are on the dashboard of the car. Start the car in the morning without the chrome radiator cap and the hot air on, then squeeze the radiator water hoses a little bit with your hands to help expel the existing air, tighten the two hoses, bottom and top, leave the car running for two minutes without the chrome radiator cap, squeezing the hoses will help to expel air from the system and at the same time expel water, gradually fill the water in the radiator (use specific radiator water). after this procedure, with the car still running at a slow speed without accelerating, observe if air bubbles still come out of the radiator, if bubbles come out it may still be air remaining or head gasket burned (but if this happens it is another problem). With the car still running, radiator with water up to it and no bubbles appear, put the chrome cap back on (this cap is a type of pressure valve on nissan cars). then check that the expansion tank, the plastic cap arm is at the correct water level, never above. It will probably stop the water noise problem inside the car when starting in the morning. Detail: always be very careful not to get hurt by the hot water from the radiator, do this in a maximum of two minutes and make sure the car is not heating up, and do not forget to do this procedure with the hot air on the panel, only so the air will come out of the panel.
Well you may not like his techniques but he is 100 percent correct
Yes you are correct.
