This is by far, I feel is the best instructional video I have come across. No B.S. no needless talk, clear cut and concise, easily explained in lay terms. Excellent job, and recommedation(s). keep up the good work.
@@TshirtWetter Thanks for your reply. I did change it successfully but in my car it was really a pain. It wasn't easy removing the cabin filter housing. Your video was very helpful.
Dude, you're the man for making this video. I have zero mechanical abilities and was able to follow this step by step to remove the thermostat housing. Seriously, life saver
My man, thank you for posting this video. I used it to replace the thermostat on my 2013 CTS 3.0. I didn't remove the entire cowl, just the passenger's side. Took me 3 days to get the housing free, but I had (what I believe to be) fuel lines blocking my full access, so my left hand got a killer workout! Just got it all back together today and took it for the maiden voyage around the block, followed by an hour drive to put it under load. The thermostat was the final hurdle I had to clear after repairing and reinstalling the driveshaft after the stock bolts sheared off, then replacing the water pump then finally the thermostat. So thank you for showing the way! Big thumbs up! Mike
I have watched several videos and none has the info like yours. I appreciate you going through the time to make this video for others with the same problem. THANK YOU VERY MUCH
I got a 2011 CTS 3.6. I actually never knew where it was for real. My shit is solid but good looking out for future reference. Appreciate how detailed you were too, thanks bro.
I just want to say your video saved me a cple hours of pondering! The detailed instructions for the wiper/cowl removal w/ correct socket sizes was very helpful. I watched-pause-remove-play over and over. I'm not even done yet but wanted to say thanks! Good job!
Good grief! You have to remove the windshield wipers to get to the thermostat 😳. Whoever designed this engine was definitely on crack! Great video and thanks for all the great information but why they put the thermostat at the rear of the engine and make it so that you have to take the car half apart to get to it is crazy.....
Man I really appreciate this my car has been runnin hot and I’ve replaced the water pump an flushed the system and then tried purging the air. I really hope this works and thank you for being one of the few to post a video for the 2010 model I have a hard time finding them for a few things I need.. lookin forward to see more videos from you
Good job man! Helped a lot! One thing is that for the hood support all you have to do is pry the spring that's around the ends to where that clip comes almost off and the support will simply slide off. Thanks again!
I have to repeat that statement that is by far one of the best instructional videos I have ever seen he goes step-by-step and shows you how to do it really easy that's a great video
Excellent video men, I need to replace the thermostat I opened the hood and had no clue on how to start, now I know, thanks perfectly explained excellent instructions. great job sir, thanks
Definitely the best video I’ve seen, so this is very similar to my sister in laws 05 Cadillac SRX, the last video I watched on how to replace it, the guy said you had to disconnect the hose upfront?? 🤷🏻♀️ I feel way more comfortable with watching your video. Thank you!
11:48 is a bleeder...I believe engine oil. These engines have a bad PCV valve design. Sucks in too much oil and ends up getting oil into the crank case.
Great vid..I have a 2009 with 42k on it and it needs a t-stat.They want 1000.00 at dealer..NFW!! I will be doing it myself..will use your tips, great job
I got coolant dumping all over my tranny and exhaust. Pretty sure it's an O ring in the housing or on one of the pipes. I couldn't find a damn thing on this before your video man, thanks!
For some reason my 09’ doesn’t have the bolt accessible to release the pipe and give it mobility… I even jacked up the car to look underneath and see if I could find something. I was told to take off the front right tire and look in that way. Any help would be appreciated
It's hell to remove that thermostat! I followed the instructions in the shop software, it says to remove the upper stabilizer bar, wipers, wiper motor cover, and the wiper motor, then the fuel injection cover and insulation and then you have access to the thermostat.... Sounds easy but hell no, each pipe has hidden bolts against the cylinder heads and the o rings on some are pretty stuck. And I don't even know how I took the heater hose off lol
I took off the top Screws on the top and the 15mm Screw still won’t come off is there more Screws to take off let me know thanks Back yard Mechanic great job by the way
If you're not busy, maybe you can come do mine now.. lol. Next can you do a transmission fluid change? No good videos for that either. The all wheel drive is not very fun. If you haven't done one yet .... push the fill plug out while the transmission pan is off.
Hey man , I left my car parked in my garage for around 20 days.... I had a 1/8th of a tank of gas... I came back to try and start it and it won’t start. It turns over but won’t start. I topped it up with fresh fuel . Checked the fuses. Any ideas ?
Hi Danes, did you add fuel treatment to your gas tank prior to filling your tank? It sounds like it could be trash has settled at the bottom of the tank and possibly clogged the filter. It's been 1 week since you messaged, did you find the problem???

Perfect. I am prepared to go in now.. In the old days, this was a 15 minute job.
This was the most thorough, informative, descriptive video I've seen on this subject.
I usually have to watch two or three videos to get all the details on how to fix something, you did in one. Awesome, thank you.

Great info. Thanks for sharing it. Recommendation for next video: use your camera in landscape orientation rather than portrait for filming.
Thank you very much for taking your time to show the process. Your video was clear and concise. Keep up the good work

God bless you sir, i've seen other videos where they took the entire CTS apart to take the thermostat out
I am so glad I was able to help! And thanks for watching
The breakdown is great. Going for my PCV I might tackle the thermo at the same time. Cheers!

THANK YOU! good information, everything you need to know with NO BS!
I got an older one, similar. They improved the cabin filter design on this one.

How come these pipes are empty ? I thought it was going to be a mess
Also you can remove the cabin filter housing to remove that 13mm bolt behind the cylinder head
Great video

Yes, its ridiculous just how much tedious work is required just to get to something that should be simple and quick.
And not to mention the fiberglass insulation my hand still itches and I used gloves lol
Do you know where the coolant temperature sensor is by any chance?
@@paulguillory3784 Paul did you ever discover the location of the Coolant Temp Sensor? I

Cloud I replace new thermostat into old housing? Please respond. Trying to save money.

Do I replace the thermostat housing too
Thank you

I plan on doing this job today.
No, you don't have to when replacing the thermostat.
Thank you, sir
Do you think these steps will be the same for 2010 DTS?
