Change that oil every 3000 miles regardless. Oil is cheap, the main reason timing chain tensioner fails! I also did my transmission fluid at 40,000 miles in my ATS. Not a problem yet!🤞
Key thing. Take care of your CTS and service regularly. You got it.
READ BEFORE YOU BUY- I’ve had my 09 for about little over 3 years, put 40,000 miles on it (it’s approaching 150,000) and I’ve done most of the work myself to keep it running. Total I’ve spent about $2300 on parts and fixing it. Which in my opinion isn’t that bad for a newer car. Thats less than what you’d pay for 3 years of regular maintenance. But I will say a lot of these issues are due to poor engineering. The things I’ve had to replace are both front wheel hubs (awd model), radiator, water pump, thermostat, driveshaft with carrier bearing, alternator, all crankshaft/camshaft sensors (wasn’t necessary), timing chain, a fuel sensor that’s on the top of the engine (not quite sure the name of it), and regular maintenance (including windshield replacement and tires). I would like to mention that I let a multitude of those problems stack up over two years and the timing chain stretching is due to a neglected oil change. I’ve beat on this car pretty hard and tend to floor it everywhere I go. It’s not made for that. That’s why my driveshaft and carrier bearing was damaged and partly why my timing chain stretched. That’s $600 that I spent because of my hard driving. If you’re looking at buying one consider how much you’d be spending if you took it to a shop every time. A lot, especially since it’s a Cadillac. As someone who enjoys working on cars my Cadillac has been good to me. I don’t recommend it to anyone who doesn’t work on cars or doesn’t have the money to bring it to a shop twice a year. When things are maintained, less goes wrong. I haven’t had any issues with mine for over a year
My 08 doesn't have a sunroof (good thing). 130k no majors problems. The key is to use the synthetic MOBILE 1 OIL!!! And do not skip or wait past 5k miles for oil changes.
Just purchased a 2015 CTS. Black diamond is the color. The metal flakes are awesome and look amazing! All fluids were changed at the dealership. It’s totally loaded. Thank goodness no issues! I usually drive on weekends. She’s a garage queen!
Got same color in 2012
If your screen stops working or cracks go to your local radio or Sound system shop I got my touch screen fixed for 220$ after tax compared to 2000$ at the dealership where they wanted to replace the whole system. My Cue screen has worked flawlessly since.
Thank you
I change my oil every 3, 000 miles. Use premium gas every fill up. Use Turtle Wax Ceramic Spray Polish in the spring and also in the fall to protect the paint from winter weather! Love my 2019 Cadillac CTS/ AWD, 2.0T engine.
Same! Got the 3.6 8-speed awd. Things quick
For the moonroof drains. I found out after floor flooded and took to dealer under warranty. Still charged me $400, to remove everything to pull the carpet & let it dry infront of shop fan for a weekend. The "duckbill" openings at the ends of the drain tubes, gets hard and doesn't let the water out. Go behind the plastic front wheel wells and cut the duckbill part off. This 60yr old g-ma did it. Just remove 2 or 3 push pins, pry the well open, stick hand in there, and cut it off. No problems since.
Have owned a 2010 CTS perf pkg 3.0 AWD for 12 years. I bought it with 9k & now has over 124k miles. No major problems, no leaks, rattles & runs just as strong as when I bought it. Paint & trim is still flawless. Usual tires, brakes, battery replacement & oil changes when required. I've owned over 160 vehicles & this Caddy is the best I've ever owned.
I have a 2011 wagon and replaced the timing chains at 92k is absolutely insane even with regular maintenance still I absolutely love my wagon.
Yours is a 3.6L? Mine is currently. 3 1/2 years, second owner. I had oil consumption issues untill recently. I was suggested to ad a bottle of Piston Seal with my next oil change. I did that and now, the Oil Catch Can I installed one year ago, is dry for the fist time! Usually by now there will be 1/5th full of used oil. It is on the Low side. I done the oil change 2 weeks ago. I was going though a Gallon Jug of oil in 2 months time!!! I think a Fuel injector is going. I am at 113,000 miles currently. My next major repair is the Inner and Outr Tie Rods. Never been touched before. So for a now 10 year old automobile, This Cadillac holds up!
@macdsmith Believe it or not at least once a month I fill the tank with premium and ad miracle oil with valve cleaner my girl doesn't smoke and run perfectly
@josemaldonado8157 Miracle Oil? I can not find that. Did you mean Marvel Mystery Oil? I thought about getting some Lucas Fuel Injector cleaner. That works. I've used that many times. Marvels Mystery Oil. also. I did a web search, and one of the first videos came up with Scotty Kilmer's video. He says not good for modern autos, don't use it. For older vehicles, yes, you can still use it. I used it in my 1995 Jaguar XJ 6, and I guess it was good for that. I use premium fuel for a long time. Thinkibg about that; my brother asked me yesterday if I use premium fuel for the Lawnmower. I said no, and he said it does better. I was recently thinking about doing that before we talked.
My 2011 CTS Coupe Premium has been excellent (knock on wood). No leaks anywhere. No stereo problems. No engine problems and I'm at just over 100k. No paint problems. Nothing that was in the video.
I don't mind pushing the pedal down, so maybe these cars just like to be driven fast? lol
i have the same year and model black on black and also knock on woods interior trim..lol...ive had no problems so far at 64k LOVE THE COUPE!
2008 3.6 full performance.
☆ Sunroof drains - cut duckbill off end of front drain tubes. Can reach them from inside wheel well splash guards (don't remove, just pull a few push pins).
☆ Drive shaft - mounting bolts loose. No thread lock on from factory. Caught it before major catastrophe.
☆ Fuel pump inlet tube - cracks at top where it enters the pump. Cause: factory cheap pump. The entire exhaust must be removed to replace it. I've seen numerous YT videos of people cutting an access hole to FP under rear seat, then making a metal plate to cover the cut-out.
☆ Now - I'm hearing clicking sounds like behind infotainment stack, (HVAC on or OFF, radio ON or OFF, car moving or idle. AND sounds like baby birds tweeting behind glovebox.
LAST Caddy 4 me. Unless I hit a million+ lottery.😂
You left out wheel bearing speed sensor failures there super common i own 4 of these cars 09-10 s you also left out driveshaft carrier bearing failure
Find out the manufactor date and NEVER buy a car built on a Monday or Friday! An older German man working on military post told me that in 1981.
Monday - they're hung over from the weekend.
Friday - They're thinking about partying for the weekend.
Ridiculous that these problems are part of a car that's so costly it's again ridiculous!!!
Bro. They don’t make better components(as in longer lasting) for more expensive cars. Companies use pre mated engines and transmissions. And upgrade everything else. Caddy, Lincoln, infinity all offer typically the same powerplant as in their lower model cars. Whole point is a better driving experience, usually comes with downsides that $$ can solve though.
Some of the shuttering of the trans may be they have skid control on take it off and drive without any weird feeling in the steering. And my car had never had a good alignment from the factory so check that too. Then I use Lucas oil add with seal conditioners in it for seals but most of all the plastic chain guards. The guards get brittle and break. And I put some in trans. As for driving it hard I don't but I drive like a limousine driver from Chicago. It's a 2008 cts 6 that runs smooth. The leak in the roof can be fixed by two problems. One like you said run a plastic wire or blow put the lines with air. Two there towards the backwhen you open it up look to see on each side from the corner towards the center you will see a plastic tape that has come loose. I just got some silicone spread it around being careful not to clog the opening to the drain. They could have made this a bit better. The screen keep it out of the sun don't press hard on the face. On my video player at first the button for to play would not work so I found if I just slip in the disk and let it cycle it will go to play. Love the car love the look even as a 4 door it adds to the look. Had mine 4 years. Got it cus of these minor problems. The person had it at a shop but could not figure out the parasitic drain the was in the trunk light switch, it would stay on and drain the battery. I pulled the bulb and had their new battery they put in is still working even if I don't use car for a month. Great breaks. And I fly rc plane's and a 50 in wingspan will fit and two other smaller at same time if I want. Oh and I'm going to put in some iridium plugs for better fuel and running to see if I get better mileage. So basically give it a little respect she will do the same. And the v8 rear wheel drive get great gas mileage and handles well. Should I go on. The day I saw mine. It looked like new oh and the air in Florida was very important. And has worked great ice cold for 4 years now. My only beef is I sort of would like narrower tires , but that's just me.
Suspension issues are ridiculous with this car
NOTE about dealership oil changes.... THEY DON'T DO THEM. They'll take your car to the back, but 50 50 on weather or not they'll do the oil change. And in the event they do the oil change, they most likely WILL NOT replace the oil filter. I had a huge issue with Dealer when I proved this via dash cam footage. So don't be surprised if something happens to your dash camera while at the dealership. Sorry folks...... they are onto it now.
Very informative video Max , I was surprised that you didn't Say anything about turbos, does that mean that they're pretty solid?
Love my 2011 CTS4 Coupe.
I have owned two. An 07 and now a 2011. I'd say the water intrustion through the Sun Roof is the major one that both cars share. The trunk would fail to open on the 07 a lot. Mostly when it was hot. I loved the 07, and love the 2011. But GM's quality is always an issue.
Is it same problems with 2017 and up
Any engine / transmission problems ??
any other problems with your 2011?
201k miles here ! Still going might have to replace catalytic converter if oxygen sensors doesn’t fix check engine found everything for $250. I cleaned out drain hoses myself pretty easy job. Bought car cover for heavy rain nights to avoid water getting in it’s whatever still love my bitch
Same here..no issues other than catalytic converter oxygen sensor setting off check engine light
Who would buy a cts after this video? Holy crap. Hope it did scare some away. I have an '08 that's been a money pit. I only have 80k miles on it now. Water leak from the sunroof, drive shaft carrier bearing failure, electronic issues where passenger side controls don't work, bolts that connect exhaust to cats all rotted and broke clean, fuel injector failure, power steering gone, transmission line leak (no easy way to add fluid without a lift either), factory rims leak air quickly, speed senor issues, tons of sensor issues causing seemingly constant check engine light illuminated....I can go on and on. Beautiful looking car and love it when it's right, but those times are few and far between.
GM earlier. Most manufacturers are doing this now because if you make a solid car that will last over 300,000 mi then the car won't need to be replaced. This is not good for the car manufacturer because they would go bankrupt very quickly they need to make cars that are cheap parts that fail and tougher for the user to repair. It's basically strategy.
Can I put a 2014 , 3.6 cts motor in a 2008 CTS that has a bad 3.6.
Mines still kicking fingers crossed 🤞
I have a 2018 and the engine keeps running when everything is off, do you think it is the power relay or the element of the ignition like in the CTS?
Mine has been doing same exact thing! I have 2019 CTs 2.0 t awd. It’s only been recent
Return that piece of shit
2 timing chains later.... several Sunroof leaks easily resolved for the weekend warriors and for free but still a hassle. And most of all now a traction control and throttle body engine idle issue 😢
I was looking at buying an 2008 cts im chsnging my mind now idk
PLEASE HELP!! My AC is working fine but the temperature cannot be raised on the passenger side! I can make it cooler but not hotter! Why is that?
Bought a 2016 two months ago, and am being told i may need to replace the transmission now (car hit 57k miles today)
Wtf? Did the dealership handle that?
Gotta 2013 CTS coupe at 200k even, just now encountering the shuddering issue hoping it’s just the torque converter
GM has drivetrain issues over many of it's models over the last 10 years... People have to report this to NHTSA or nothing will change. They have a page for it.
2016 cts 4 ,2 0t 93k miles....i keep it tarped and really only drive on the weekends...imo its the prettiest body style of all the cts line. Considering dropping some forged pistons and mabey building the 4 banger enough to get mabey 300 hp out of it...considering the cast pistons seem to fail alot and my car is about to hit a hunnert thousand...
"maybe" and "a lot"
We are looking at one with 77k miles is it worth buying?
@ryan422423
I like mine. Lots of fun up in the Ga . Mountains on those twisty roads. I'd say if the price is right jump on it.
Wow I didn't know they had that many issues. Thought about a cts wagon but I might rethink that. Buying used you never know how it was treated and even harder to find one with service records.
Just bought a 14 CTS. Now you got me worried.
Don't worry. It's a nice car!
How is it so far?
I just bought a 2010 cts bro wtf
So far I love my 2014. A little more than my 2011 bmw 528.
@@justaregulardude1646 me too yesterday do you have problems?
I’ve got a 2011 3.0 manual, when I hit the gas 2-6 gear at lower rpm it makes a “shutter/ squeaky” sound. Lmk what that could be if anyone knows.. thanks
Ignition coils are weak or throttle body is dirty and needs to be cleaned
Most likely produced by toyota my wifes 2011 cts has 140k with no issues had since 2012 . 3,6 motor change oil every5- 6k. Tires filters brakes oil thats it except 1 antilock sensor in front right after hitting a deep pothole. Allwheel drive model. Heated seats headlights even turn with the wheel to see around corners still work.
My 2011 Cadillac CTS drives great but it recently started showing the traction stabilizing triangle on the dashboard when it starts up. I have to turn the vehicle off, wait 20 seconds, and start her up again, and the light will disappear. What is causing this issue
Buy a scanner, plug it in and then see if there are any codes.
I had A 2013 CTS for eight yrs and loved it. It didn’t start to have problems until 139,000 miles. The traction light kept showing up on the dash board when I cranked it up. The dealership tried to fix it, but soon as I got on the high way same problem. They told me they had to charge $3,000 just to brake it down to find out what was wrong and if it was the engine it would cost $10,000. I asked for a refund and traded it in for a brand new Honda that’s more reliable.
Check your speed sensors .they might need to be either reset or replace
XTS-4's have drivetrain issues as well... Differentials & then drive shafts.
Transmission shudder is a common problem in all GM vehicles, the company should be ashamed of themselves
Never had a problem with mine.
Pretty cars but maintenance hogs! My 2013 has had issues with overheating (I changed the thermostat, gaskets, and everything I could reach until I figured out the cooling fan motor burnt out. I replaced it myself.) The driveshaft bolts are weak by design and GM issued a TSB but no recall. Mine failed catastrophically and I ended up ordering another driveshaft from a salvage yard and ordering the newly designed bolts from rock auto. Backup camera crapped out on me but I haven't replaced it yet. Leather doorsill MELTED under my arm on a mid-70's day. I'll never own another one! I've posted many of the fixes and repairs on my channel. Only good thing I can report is that it burns 87 octane, but it gets marginally better gas mileage than a Jeep Wrangler...I'll NEVER own or recommend another to anybody!!
Wow...
LOL I traded my truck for a 2011 Cadillac with about 93k miles. I have only driven it twice since I got it about a week ago. I came home yesterday after driving it about 60 miles or so, and I heard a hissing sound. Antifreeze was rapidly leaking from the lower front of the engine and it had overheated! lol I haven't torn into it yet, but I'm thinking it may be the water pump....I hope it isn't that, but rather a loose hose!! YEA right!!!! LOL I love to drive that car though!!
Transmission fluid change for $331? I had the tranny, transfer case and both difs changed for $325, including tax.
Drain fluid from the bottom yourself every 40k miles. not very hard. Cost about $25 for valvoline maxlife. Works great
How many miles did have til you did the transmission fluid change
@@samgom 77,000. Went to a transmission shop. They only do drive line work, no A/C work, no brake work or other repairs.
@@samgom60K
I have a 2017 CTS Luxury with 3.6 NA engine and 8 speed tranny, guess all I have to worry about is paint issues, which still hasn't happened as of 2023, so that says alot, maybe I've just been lucky and got a good one.
2003 cts water leaks in passenger seat..when it rains it pours into 🚗🚗
My 06 does too on the rear side curtain on car washes no sunroof tho
I'm buying a 2009 cts4 this week for my first car 120k miles looks taken care of and he replaced stuff already and did a recent tune up etc so hope it's good for me
Same leak trouble & drive shaft trouble eek. I have one
is it running well so far
Is it still running good?👀
I'm looking at 2010 3.0 this week.
Sell it while you can. You’ve been warned
You said there is a 2010 transmission recall on the cts that is not true
I have a 2010 CTS. It's like a U-boat. I've had water inside and a small lake in the truck Investigating another leak I looked where the air compressor is stored and it was filled with water. 😮
Check your drain hoses it's really simple
3:03 1800-2000 for an oil change? I don’t think so.
I have the timing chain issue on my 2009 cts4 smh
Same bro, I’m driving it to the ground
Cadilla CTS 09 RW
1.water leak coming from the sunroof.
2. Drivers and passengers door handles not working.
3. Ac/radio/heat/ panel going crazy not working. Probably because of the water leak damaging electrical lines
4. Headlights constantly burning
5. Replaced lower control arms TWICE. Not sure why…
6. 1 wheel bearing replaced
7. At 300.000 kilometres water pumping replacement.. coolant leak
8. Missfires due to ignition coils burning.
Car lasted 400.000 kilometres until a very cold Canadian winter morning the car wouldn’t start. I tough it was battery but the engine actually sized..
Good looking car but its a fucking headache after 200.000 kilometres or so..😢
After viewing this Vid & reading the comments below, you'd have to be a damn fool to purchase a CTS!...I'll stick to my 2000 Buick LeSabre, it has it's issues too, not gonna even lie about it, but nowhere as bad compared to what you & the commenters have described!....TY & Cheers!
If u believe everything he said dats on u buddy.
Anyone ever have car shake going slow but not at idle
I am thinking about buying a 16 CTS, now i am worried.
Don't b worried there super reliable cars do ur research trust these r just things that have happend
They’re garbage don’t buy it. Get a Japanese car
I’m looking at a 2011 CTS4 3.6L v6 102K miles no accidents 2 owners 1 had it 10 years then a dealership had it fixed a whole bunch. Price is at 10.5K but have a trade in about 2-3K should I do it?
Did u do it? I got a cts in May for 2k
But the cts needed a tune which was 2k I’m currently driving it , it’s a beast
The price is to high should be 7 grand or less
@@kaosatama no I’m too broke lmao
I was offered a 13 CTS after seeing this Im not taking a risk.
There actually super reliable cars cars . U should buy one
No way they’re junk. Good thing you passed it up
Dang...I just brought a 08
😑😑😑😑😑
1st year of a new generation car has problems always get the next year , 2008 is the beginning of 2nd gen cts model I have 2007 CTS great car most issues were fixed after 2005 model
How is it going?
@@EiDyn_rap actually it's running good...😎
Man, I'm over here looking at this 08 cts with 200k. Was your 08 cts a good purchase?
I have a 2008 CTS 118k miles, runs beautifully, just replace trans oil, do a full tune up, air, oil, fuel and cabin filters, timing chain kit, water pump & only use Mobil 1 dexos 1 gen 3 oil trust you'll be riding A1 for a long time and change it every other 7k-10k on the tune up keep up with it. You'll be fine trust me
😢Damn I'm glad I asked😮
You trippin on the screen. I bought it for 150 and installed it myself
So did I and I'm not particularly handy. It does take time and there are a few tricky spots but it is worth trying to fix yourself.
It just keeps getting worse and worse,😮😂
GM by by by my SRX pain in…
2011 cts cadillac Don't buy. I had to replace 1 starter, 2 alternators, 2 battery's. Also left me standed 5 times. Repeat!!!! do not buy one of these pieces of shit.
Hustle big Hustle
We bought one of these pos cars and I would never buy another caddy ever once a great car now shit frist 110 thousand mile transfer case 3 grand for tranny then since 125 thousand miles four soon to be five complete headlight assemblys and it's had a series of check engine light for traction abs etc on for months
Sometimes you have to look at the owner and not the car. My CTS coupe AWD with 151,000 miles runs excellent on the original engine, transmission and transfer case. No timing chain issues. Luck? no!! It's because I regularly maintain my CTS. Change all of your fluids regularly. Most people dont even know they need to change differential fluid, let alone know if their car has a differential.
What year is the caddy?
YOUD think what they charge theses conditions should be fixed by GM!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lol i just bought an 08
How is it going?
@@EiDyn_rap had to replace the air mass flow sensor, canister purge valve, and alternator. Plus my sunroof leaks so i has to clean out the drains
