    I found the perfect indigo pigment, I started my art career as a experimental textile artist so I spent a lot of time dying fabric with Japanese indigo so the brand for indigo paint is by sennlier it's closest to true indigo so if you get a chance try a tube 😊

    • @bodyisround
      @bodyisround Před 6 lety +1

      My sennelier indigo from a tube dries into a hard lump and is very difficult to rewet. Do you have the same problem? I'm not sure if I just got a defective tube or something but it's very disappointing.

    • @Kyomiibrown
      @Kyomiibrown Před 5 lety

      Asynchrony spray it and leave it for 5 minutes before using. It may be difficult to rewet due to the pigment used.

      @@bodyisround Is it the old version of Sennelier? Because the New French version is made with honey and shouldn't dry hard at all.

    I love the colors in the Mijello range, but not the way the paint behaves (or at least, not enough to justify buying them). It's really interesting you see your swatches comparison (what the heck happened with that "burnt sienna" lol). Thanks a lot for this review :)

      I saw Mandy's after I filmed mine, and it's so neat to see what other people notice. I use them all the time and I've never given a second thought to how the color spreads (or doesn't spread). I just add more water and use my brush. I guess that's why there are so many brands! :)

I have two videos for Daniel Smith planned for hopefully early in the new year: the huge dot chart as well as my personal favorites. Daniel Smith are my ultimately favorite, but Mission Gold is my first second choice and fills in the gaps nicely :) Happy New Year!

    I thought I had the same set as yours until I saw a py154... I am suffering from the cauliflower effect that mission gold always creates.
    And I see you have that in your last swatches. I am wondering why. is it due to my skills or the paper or the paints themselves

  • @kamalitarajagopalan2671

    How do these paints perform over time. Do they mix okay? I’ve heard that there are a lot of unusual pigments in this line. Also, is the pure pigment set a better value than the 36 set with palette? I’m considering buying but not sure which one to go with. As long as it doesn’t mix mud, or behave really odd, I don’t mind lightfast issues.

      Hi there! I don't have their regular indigo. Based on other indigos, however, I'm guessing it's pretty dark, like the older version on mijello blue is. The new mijello blue is different my favorite over all other indigos that I've tried.

    Thank you so much for your videos! Your thoroughness and presentation are both top notch, and your work is absolutely ridiculous fantastic! I hope you have a wonderful year in 2017 (good riddance, 2016!).
    On the subject of comparing the character of different paint brands, I'm curious if you have any thoughts about why sometimes two paints made from the same pigment will have an actual difference in color, like with the lemon yellow you showed us. I am mystified by this, and don't quite know enough about pigment characteristics to have any guesses about why.
    Cheers!

    • @InLiquidColor
      @InLiquidColor  Před 7 lety +3

      Thank you for your kind words Stella! I am fascinated by the pigment compositions as well. From my understanding, there are a few factors. Some pigments are very consistent (ie ultramarine) while others are naturally inconsistent and secondly, the treatment of those pigments by each company can impact the way they look as well (ie binders, additives, etc.)
      If you take a look at this page and scroll down to "Source" it tells you a bit about why some natural colors like ochre, siennas, and umbers vary so much: www.naturalpigments.com/yellow-ocher-jcl.html
      In general, I do believe that using pigment numbers will get you closer to the actual color you're looking for than a common name. The reds get particularly wonky with naming across different brands... haha.

    • @InLiquidColor
      @InLiquidColor  Před 7 lety +1

      Rori Rants if you're interested in mixing then yes but if you'd prefer painting from a tube, one of their other sets would be fine too. It is a lot of paint and a bit of an investment but if you want to dive it, it's a great bargain.

    • @redforrori
      @redforrori Před 7 lety +2

      I've been driving myself crazy trying to figure out single pigments (and brands) that I want to work with! And while I realize how valuable learning to mix properly is, the reality is that I couldn't care less about messing around with mixing. I really just want to try watercolors out, do a few sketches/paintings with them, and then decide if I want to stick with it. Even a limited palette of single pigments paints from name brands is SPENDY! I think I'm liking the 36 set better for what I'm looking for. Your video was super helpful in comparing with other brands and seeing the differences in colors that are single pigments/hues/etc. Thank you!

    • @InLiquidColor
      @InLiquidColor  Před 7 lety +1

      Rori Rants ah yes. Single pigments aren't inherently better than multiple pigments. They're just harder to mix and require a more knowledgeable user to mix cleanly as the more pigments there are he more likely they are to get muddy. The only think I like to make sure people know is that mission golds earth pigments are a bit off and the burnt sienna is a disaster to mix (though pretty on its own). Also if you do end up liking them and want to try others, be aware that their common names are wonky. Happy painting.

    I currently have a set of student grade watercolours by daler rowney and I want to purchase some artist quality now. I can't decide between buying the single pigment set from mijello (so around 100$ for 24x15ml) or buying 10 colors that I would choose myself from m graham (so around 100$ for 10x15ml). If we only look at the ratio price/quantity it's obvious but I'm actually afraid to buy colors that I won't use, maybe starting smaller is better... And I don't know which ones are the best! So, what would you recommand to me? ^^

    • @InLiquidColor
      @InLiquidColor  Před 7 lety +1

      Hi Neru! I haven't used the pure pigment set yet BUT a viewer sent me samples of the entire set so I am going to be getting to that really soon to have a first impressions here on the channel. I do know there are a LOT of reds in that set, so it depending how much you would use those ones. Personally, I would pick out my own 10 favorite colors that you know you'll use. I do have two different videos talking about limited palettes. One is my Top 12 colors and the other is my Daniel Smith video. Even though they're Daniel Smith, you could use them for inspiration for your own palette with MGraham if they're helpful! I do LOVE MGraham's Prussian Blue :)

      neru chan aw yes I'm sorry to hear! They're a much smaller company. I hope they can travel over seas more easily someday. I would imagine Sennelier would be close to what you're looking for - vibrant and they use honey - and they're widely available in Europe, or so I hear :)

    • @neruchan755
      @neruchan755 Před 7 lety +2

      Indeed, the brands I can easily find here are Sennelier, Rembrandt, Schmincke, Winsor and Newton, Daler Rowney, Lukas... Thank you so much for your kind answers! The problem when you watch only english (american actually) videos is that you want to use the same products lol
      I'll try to learn more about sennelier watercolors (starting with your review!)

    • @InLiquidColor
      @InLiquidColor  Před 7 lety

      I wish I had more access to your paints as well! Sennelier and Schmincke are very expensive here. I mistakenly though I could get Rembrandt here a little bit more easily and passed on them when I was traveling in Budapest! I'm kicking myself now. I do have European brands on my Wish List and will definitely review them if I get the chance to work with them!
      As far as my Sennelier review goes, I don't feel like it's fully comprehensive. I did not like the colors in that mini set and again would love to use more of my favorite colors in there line to make a better review :) From what I understand, they're a lovely company, I just don't understand that selection of colors haha.

    I like some of the bright colours for florals. I just ordered a few more. but .... are they really the best for everything, just because the one or other colour looks great and bright on a swatch card side by side? I mean - e.g. one does need that ugly lemon yellow for so many things. and what then is a yellow good for, that looks just like a very very warm shadow of a painted lemon - a very artistic ones? that's the issue with a lot of these reviews and swatches. I like, to see them to have an idea, what I would get. but the conclusions that are drawn often....I don't know, what to do with them. if they are of any relevance. reminds me a bit on the issue, that make up swatches have - I don't watch those anymore.
