    I had every issue back in the ‘70s! I looked forward every month to the next issue! The artwork was superb, especially Mike Ploog’s and Alfredo Alcala’s amazing greyscale illustrations. The covers were phenomenal, and the articles offered many photos that were very rare to us at the time (we didn’t have instant internet access to such things back then).

    Excellent video Shannon. While never a big fan of the Planet of the Apes I can sure appreciate these magazines and the great covers.

      Erik K. Thanks Erik ! Even if I wasn't a fan of the Apes I would probably get these for just the covers alone ! Thanks for watching !

    To say the later issues of this run are tough to find is an understatement! Really, really tough to find! Great video!

      AFTA Comics Hey Allen.. You're right about those later issues being tough.. Especially in grade.. I was pretty fortunate in tracking those down for a fair price. Thanks for watching !

    Class is in session.... :-)
    I totally understand your love for these magazines, Shannon. My favorite covers here are #7 and #11. One of my most-beloved childhood experiences was going to an "all-nighter" at the Silver Springs Drive-In to see all five POTA films, circa 1975. I was the only one in the family who stayed awake all night and didn't miss a moment! :-)
    ....on to Part Two....

      I remember that! It was incredible too! I saw it at the baker Theater in Wharton, NJ, but it was a Sunday 12 noon to 9pm event!

      DrVonChilla Hey John.. I caught the Apes Marathon on tv as a kid and didn't miss a minute either ! This series combines my love for a lot of things, Apes, comics, Scifi, and post apocalyptic storylines ! I agree about the covers on 7 and 11, they are outstanding and definitely deserving of an upgrade ! Thanks for watching buddy !

    Great video, really enjoyed all of your comments and information about the original scripts and all that. Love these magazines. I've got the whole run too. I especially loved the way Ploog drew apes and the then those Alcala stories, awesome. And this reminds me how excellent those Larkin covers were.
    Gray Morrow, wow, didn't realize.

      sleepyreader666 Thanks Damian .. The art that Ploog, Sutton, and Alcala did in this series was amazing.. Doesn't hurt that Herb Trimpe did a few stories also ! I get a new appreciation for the covers every time I pull these mags out.. Enjoyed the great comments !

    Great Planet ape video buddy. Really enjoyed the covers. I just be happy if I could just get one of them in my collection. I might have to look for them when I get better. Cuz I'm not going to pay eBay prices a lot of times those magazines size books pretty dinged up I want to find one that's in good shape. But thanks for showing it man I really enjoyed it. I remember about 4 years ago on Labor Day they had a marathon and I sat there and watched all them right in a row all day long. It was great. Brought back great memories man. But I will tell you this when I first saw the first one in the show and she turned around and she was an ape that scared me so bad I was just a little kid. And I remember telling my mom I want to go home but ended up staying. Not till I get older around 10 or 12 I really appreciate it the movies alright man talk to you later. Joker 68 Curt

      JOKER 68 Hey Curt ! Thanks for the great comment ! The first movie I saw as a kid was Beneath, and when Heston's character set off the Alpha Omega bomb it scared the crap out of me too ! I remember thinking.. " they can't blow up the world !! " 😱😱😱 lol ! I was lucky enough to snag about half of the run as a kid, and when I went out to complete the run, decent copies weren't too expensive then . Thanks for tuning in my friend !

    Very cool! I'm aware that Marvel did teh Planet of the Apes series but I don't think I've read any of them. I read a rumor that DC tried to get the rights but failed so that's when they asked Jack Kirby to do Kamandi...I don't know if that's true or not.

    • @solid4stbend
      @solid4stbend  Před 6 lety +1

      edward2962 Hey Ed.. Both Marvel and DC were trying to get the rights to the Apes around the same time and either Marvel outbid DC or secured the rights first. Carmine Infantino asked Kirby to come up with something similar to compete with and the King took that concept and ran with it. Years later in his book, Infantino said he " created that for Jack " Which was total BS.. Kirby had already come up with the concept from 2 earlier things he had done " Kamandi of the Caves" , which he created in the late 50's but it never got published, and from a story he did for Harvey Comics in the late 50's or early 60's called " The Last Enemy", which featured an apocalyptic tale with talking animals.. Who's to say Jack Kirby didn't create the Apes franchise ..? Lol !

    About 20 years ago my wife and I went to a flea market and one guy had 1000s of these for a dollar each. Had to buy as many as I could but the wife SOLD them on me during our divorce. @$%%&?!
