Classic MKV! Which means it's great of course! "Giant Sized Man-Thing"....not gonna touch that with a ten foot pole...wait that came out wrong! (the depth and breadth of your comic book collection never ceased to amaze me!!!)

Jonathan Frakes as president? That would be weird, electing an entertainer as president.

"I was going to use this opportunity to whip out my giant sized Man Thing"! Hilarious.
It's on a par with "I can't wait to see David Tennant's Purple Man". 🤣

This was wonderful to see. I had just about a full run back when I was a young kid, all bought new off the rack …sure wish I still had them.😕

Great video, nice to see the Marvel POTA stuff getting some love. Although I have a few of the original mags, I first saw these strips reprinted in Planet Of The Apes Weekly, a comic produced by Marvel UK in the mid 70'S. The adaption of Beneath' was the first time I was introduced to Alfredo Alcala's superb artwork, long before I'd seen his Conan stuff. But my favourite strip was one you hinted at in your video, the one set on two giant 'city-ships' (one occupied by gorillas, the other by chimps if I recall) with a character called The Slinker (later revealed to be a human)who instigates a war between the two vessels in order to bring both to their knees & release the humans (who are revealed to be manning the ships oars...). Moench writes the Slinker's thoughts in captions rather than (as was the standard then) in bubble thought balloons, which I found to be extremely atmospheric at the time. Interestingly it was a technique Frank Miller later used in Batman Year One to great acclaim. Terrific stuff.

Never saw or heard of the BOOM collections! Thanks for the tip. I will seek them out!
P.S. My most surreal experience was being stuck in an elevator during a fire alarm/hotel evacuation in Chicago with Linda Harrison, NOVA from the film series. What a wonderful and sweet lady. All class.
But a great look back on a classic mag worth checking out!

Just found Steve Donoghue a few weeks back and now from him have found you and Epic Comic Thurs-er Wednesdays. Great contact. I had those POTA apes a few years back and to pay vet bills I sold them. Don’t regret it but I miss them. TY for sharing

When Marvel's weekly UK "Planet of the Apes" comic caught up with the strips in the US magazine, they took "Killraven" and redrew and rewrote it as "Apeslayer"... I'm holding out for those to be collected (probably never going to happen).

Great. Love the POTA magazines. I have most of them but my #1 has gone adrift. Ploog was spectacular. These reprint books are just too expensive. I've got PB reprints of the BW version of Terror. And the first two Apes movies. Good enough I guess.

You had me cracking up there 😂. These look amazing! Thanks for showing us these, as it’s evidently the only time I’ll get to see them! Those Boom books look awesome, but holy cow, they are indeed expensive! Awesome vid… makes me want to go watch the movies again.

Boulle's creation really has taken on a life of its own. I remember reading the novel and being a little let down. What the film did (in my hoooomble opinyon) was to take its brilliant satire and re-invent it as an awesome SF/adventure staring Moses, I mean, Heston. (I think even Rod Serling had a hand in reinterpreting for the screen). Before "Luke, I AM your father," the ending of Planet, with the statue of Liberty, was THE greatest shocker ending ever. Again, in my hooomble opinyon. I wonder if B.'s estate is seeing any residuals.

My strongest memory of Mike Ploog's work was the parody of the TV show, Kung Fu, that he illustrated for the first edition of Crazy Magazine in 1973.
His depiction of the title character in "Kung Fooey" didn't look all that much like star David Carradine (Angelo Torres' caricature in Mad Magazine was much better). But Ploog's artwork was distinct and very impressive.

For me, the most important thing about the Black and White series was the articles. They are gold. Before I sold off my collection of them, I Xeroxed off all the articles and put them in a folder somewhere. Great video and please put that "Man-thing" away, you might poke someone's eye out... 😏

I never got into Planet Of the Apes, but I do remember seeing the magazine on the stands. I wish I'd grabbed that one for the Serling interview! He's one of my literary heroes and would die the next year (1975.) He would have been 100 in another year, I think.

To further echo the scarcity issue, this is the first time I have ever heard of or seen these comics. But as a kid I did have a couple packs of Planet of the Apes trading cards. They were great photos of scenes from the first film. But it would be years before I would actually see the films as a vhs rental...

Was a huge POTA fan back in the 70's read the UK ape comics but I can't recall where I saw Mike Ploogs ape art, it was B/W had a human called Jason and I think there was a story about Pirate apes on huge ships attacking each other, or did I dream it? Great vid.

Since you showed your copy of Superman the Silver age volume 1, I bought one too. And since I got that I decided, hey! Why not buy Batman
the Silver age Volume 1 also and I jumped on that. But, I saw that the Silver age started in August of 1950 and I wanted the entire year. Yup, you guessed it. I bought the last volume of the Golden Age Batman too. You cost me a lot of money this last month and I'm happy as a clam, not really knowing how happy a clam can be.

Well, that Batman arrived and I found I was wrong and it was 1955. Now I have to figure out which one was 1950 and buy those two volumes. It’s all your fault my wallet is now so much skinnier. Thanks
