    Those corn field scenes
    Blew us out of our front row center seats when this movie opened
    The scale of the screen-
    The costumes and ...
    Many do not realize the volume of the sound track blasting during those chase scenes
    Next level ...

    When I was a kid, I used to ride my horse to the leftover set of Ape City. There were lots of sets left intact at Malibu Creek Park. I also used to climb the cliffs off Point Dume where they filmed the finale of the movie.

    I’ve been fascinated by The 1968 planet of the apes movie since my Dad showed me a video tape of it when I was a kid. The desert scenes when Taylor, Landon and Dodge were exploring are still my favourite parts. I loved Taylor’s jaded/cynical outlook on humanity while he puffed on his cigar.

    Thank God for nerds like you guys. I've taken my young son to this area several times. He loves the Original. We've ran the steps & cornfield area. Really takes me back to 1968. I was ten years old. What a trip!

  • @dannyelvisvernon
    @dannyelvisvernon Před 7 lety +18

    I just made the trip and I can't thank you guys enough for the tour tips!..the sets are quite separated though not too far from each other. I was using your video to find the sets especially the city. Totally lived up to my expectations. No one on the trail knew where it was until we stumbled into two older park hosts ...and older white guy and an Indian who I jokingly called the Lone Ranger and Tonto (Rick and Fred). They we're amazingly kind and the ones to ask about for detailed Hollywood info. They even showed the hidden metal ape cage from "Beneath" movie2 !!!! I wish I could leave a photo on CZcams. By the way the steps were used in the movie we're from a previous lodge that was there and privately owned before Hollywood studios purchased it.

    When I was working for the California Conservation Corps, back in the 70's. parts of Ape city were still standing though pretty dilapidated. . I wish now that I had a camera with me to take photos of what was left at the time. I had hoped you'd try and find the places where Planet of the Apes was filmed. At the time I was there we had been doing some clean up work in the park and came across the remains of the sets that hadn't quite been torn down yet. Really cool video Adam! Nice to see what eventually happened to the sets and what remains. I remember walking up those steps. :)

    16:19 For this shot you can see straight ahead following the center of the beach there is a small dome shaped rock (it looks red in Adam's clip) at the base of the cliff. If you were to stand there and point outward towards the sea, that's the same shot location and angle from the movie. But heck, you guys were close enough!

    This is so cool to see original locations of one of my favorite movies, very interesting, intercutting with original footage is great, what a difference 1968 "film" makes, I've always thought it was a miracle for 1968 that this kind of movie was made and made so well, thanks for taking the time to go out and do this, plan to watch all your other location videos.

    I've been an Apes fan since the early 70's. Even had a short-lived POTA fan club. I think the series inspired me to move from NoCal to here in SoCal and get in the business. And I've been in it for nearly 30 years, yet have never visited any of these classic sites that are all no more than a thirty-minute drive away. And years ago, I was right at Zuma Beach where they shot the end scenes and didn't even realize it at the time. I guess I need to make the pilgrimage.

I must say as always you definitely did your homework because this was awesome. Thank you for doing what you do because I always look forward to your videos. Being I’m now 49 I can’t stand today’s TV shows with all this reality bull shit. It’s all fake crap and not entertaining what so ever. Thank you once again Adam and will always be looking forward to your upcoming videos👍🏽
