In the books, Lucius was described as pretty much an adult version of Draco, with short and sleek hair like him. However, after seeing Jason Isaacs portray him with that long, platinum blonde hair, I can't picture him any other way.
Jason Isaacs was the one who pushed for the style and look that we know and love of Lucius! When he found out that the character was to have short hair, he was the one who wanted long, flowing hair and apparently the creators obliged him! I'm really glad they did.

Saw him at a convention where he talks about the filmmakers wanting him to be dressed more traditionally. Jason kept insisting that no, his character is a wizard who has pride in being so with hatred for muggles. Why then would he dare dress as one?
Its funny how he was such cocky and evil character throughout most of the series, and then he becomes a frightened wreck by the end.

That task for Draco to killing Dumbledore was because Voldemort wanted revenge on Lucius because he and his team f*cked up the prophecy globe in episode 5. Also Lucius indirectly caused the destroying of the diary in EP2, one of Voldemort's horcruxes.

From what I know, Jason Isaacs actually requested the character's hair to be long and combed back like it was, Isaacs had to tilt his head back slightly in most scenes to keep the hair from falling in front of his face, it added to the character's arrogance. He literally looked down his nose at everyone. The perfect villain.

Jason Isaacs is the perfect Lucius Malfoy. He nailed the portrayal so marvellously well.

Add that he also deployed his acting muscle for the dual role of social climbing and devoted dad George Darling and the talented and lethal pirate Captain James Hook for the 2003 live-action version of "Peter Pan" and both Malfoy and Hook would get along as reasonably well as two villains can get along.

I LOVE the fact that Jason forgot what spell he had to say so just said Avada (kedavra) as it was the first spell that popped into his mind. It adds such an extra dramatic touch to who Lucius is, as he was going to use this spell because Harry freed Dobby!

Man, the scene where Voldemort breaks Draco's wand is so good for this character, and quite emotional too. You can see how hard it is for him to see such a personal item be broken, and how terrified he is.

That "my Lord" scene cracks me up every time, his delivery just sounds so perfectly whinny with his voice cracking, Voldemort doesn't even repeat the my Lord thing in the books, I swear Ralph fiennes was just f*cking with him.
It's also easy to forget that almost a decade before Ralph Fiennes brought Lord Voldemort to life, he also played the role of former cop Lenny Nero in "Strange Days".
Less then half an hour out of 8 films, and he still steals the scene in every scene he's in.
Have to admit, whoever played Bellatrix did a good job capturing the way she acted from the books.

I never really payed attention to just how incredibly emotional put together Mr. Weasley was but my gosh… the man is literally the most incredibly strong person ever. He takes so much and puts in so much work to barely get by and feed he’s 3 sons and daughter and wife and at the same time will take shit straight to the face and smile for the kids to make them feel not so uncomfortable.

I really like the arc Lucius goes through throughout this series, it’s a downward spiral, because he is beneath all the swagger and sense of wizard supremacy a coward. He’s so afraid of losing status, and as soon as Voldemort is back in the game you see how he obeys every whim out of fear for his life and the life of his family. And the pathetic thing is that Voldemort sees through his sniveling and hates him in return for it. But Lucius seems content in being hated by his master as long as it keeps him alive. And Isaacs choices in his portrayal really sells the underlying terror and trauma he feels about the very idea of Voldemort. You get a sense that Lucius feels trapped by the fact he sold his soul to the devil so to say.
In no way is Lucius a good person who was forced to do bad things. He is a coward and a very bad individual. But he is fueled by doing bad things out of a place of fear and misplaced sense of supremacy. If Voldemort never returned you’d imagine him just being a supremacist a-hole. Living contently with his family hating half bloods.
Voldemort's resurrected form does literally have a bit of a Devilish/demonic appearance. I'm sure that's intentional. He is also literally referred to as the dark lord and has people call him lord. Voldemort's pretty much a Devil wannabe. Plus, you could actually say all his defying the natural order of things by making all those Horcruxes is literally blasphemous. I do wonder if something like directly denouncing God is a part of the mysterious Horcrux making process. After all it is a bit of a misconception that the wizarding world doesn't have religion. JK said there's religious variety in it just like the muggle population, just with some of their own traditions.

As a kid I found 1:59 to be so sinister. Imagine being 12 years old, the father of your bully shakes your hand, and then smooth as a snake jerks you forward to look closely at a scar or blemish on your face like you’re some kind of specimen.
Harry couldn’t do anything but just stand there and take it, because he may not have been a part of the wizarding world for long, but he instinctively understood this man had an intangible power that wasn’t simply magic-based. When it comes to snakes, you don’t panic.
Jason Isaacs projected such an air of viperish aristocracy in the second film especially and it looked *so* effortless.

I'm pretty sure he was not thinking of that. Ever since losing the prophecy he became more and more certain that Voldemort winning would not be good for his family.
This is the reason we know why Draco is the way he is. But at a certain time I learned that Lucius father Abraxas was the same way Lucius is so basically that’s the reason why Lucius is the way he is
And hopefully Draco broke that tradition and was actually loving and affectionate to his son the way he always craved but rarely got
Jason isaacs would make an incredible thrawn in the Star Wars universe. Some of his mannerisms and vocal etiquette in which he plays Lucius matches thrawn’s almost identically.

See, I would disagree there, I would say that about Narcissa and Draco about his family but I think that Lucius cares more deeply about the reputation of his family than the members himself as well as his own reputation. We can see this by Lucius’ flitting between the dark side, he wants to be on the winning side, in order to preserve his reputation. He would go so far as to make his own son become a death eater and risk his son’s life to uphold this than be a decent person.
I think Narcissa was the one who really cared about Draco. She got Snape to swear the Unbreakable Oath and pretended that Harry was dead when he told her that Draco was still alive.
Lucius is one of the pettiest characters I have ever seen. His hatred of muggles and mud bloods is so extreme and there’s absolutely no logic behind it. He’s so prideful, it’s painful.
To be fair like the rest of his family they are that way as a result of their upbringing I mean if you think about it if your whole life all you were told is you are above everyone else simply because of your heritage and wealth and you see your parent behave in that same manner naturally you are going to grow up that way as well and mirror those behaviours I’m not excusing their crimes or anything but we have to look beyond the picture and see there is more to their beliefs than what meets the eyes

We’ve also seen that he is very rich and looks down on poor families like the Weasleys. There are people like that who think they’re better than everyone else.

The Malfoys represent extremely narcissistic people. This is why the wife is named Narcissa, after Narcissus of myth, from the etymology of the word. They struggle with empathy and feelings of self-worth, so they will use any means of measurement which makes them feel worthy and better than others i.e. wealth, blood status, political status. They have a less extreme version of the psychopathy of Voldemort which is why they were drawn to follow him.
