- In this episode, I’m sharing the unboxing experience with my friend Anis who ordered a custom Seaside and Beyond directly from Rob Machado Surfboards.
The whole process took about 8 weeks. The glass job is outstanding and the board doesn’t feel bulky at all.
I’m almost sold on this one and can’t wait to catch a few waves on it this weekend.
Special thanks to Anis for coming and sharing the unboxing experience with me.

lmao, he is hiding his excitement and stoke so much while holding the board. that board is sick!
He's really good at it. Can't wait to ride it this weekend. Cheers!
Everybody loves a new freshy!!! 👊🤙
Yup. I may go with the custom one soon.
WOW! Custom SSB looks awesome! Beautiful design.Thank you for sharing!
Wow looks like they gave it an old school gloss and polish! Love that theres no logo on the deck, simple, minimalist design. Super classy board!
Yes, my friend is so into artisanal stuff... influencing me now. Because of him, I've got so many fun alternative crafts. More reviews coming :)
@@SkipperSurfReview yewww! 🤙🏼
Congratulations! It looks beautiful. I know that feeling of getting a new board delivered.
Thank you. I can't wait to try it this weekend 3-4+ ft... Hope it holds up!
Board looks red hot!
love your videos mate! greetings from Sydney
Cheers, Karl. Thank you for watching 🤙🏽
Maldives will be nice for sure
wowwww the green graphic on that is so slick. I guess now I need to order a custom SS&B...
Indeed. Same here🙈
nice shape built on WW2 technology, amazing.
Thank you, John. I hope I can try to ride this board this weekend. Expecting solid swell from Tropical Storm Henri. Cheers!
Yew! Seems like it has a solid concave through the back of the board
Lotsa concaves to set u up for nice carves. Are you doing ok?
@@SkipperSurfReview Yes back to doing some swimming, but probably can't surf this next swell :(
@@lucashildreth5692 I think there is gonna be another round in late June💪🏼
Had a 7'0 SSB and flicked it fairly quickly. Found in our conditions of much steeper waves than Cali the nose rail kept catching. Replaced it with a CC 7'6 Twin Tracker which has a much more forgiving rail that is tucked under up front.
Liked the SSB when up and riding, felt amazing under foot but always grabbing on the rail for drop in, cutbacks or re-entries. Don't have the same problem with the Twin Tracker.
One thing that the SSB had that is better than the Twin Tracker is greater drive from the quads compared to the twins. If the SSB had forward rails that where more chined then it would not grab as much.
Good luck with the new board as it does look awesome.
Thank you, Hydroman for your detailed feedback. Much appreciated. I totally agree on steeper waves issue where the Seaside and Beyond can't handle it well. I didn't have many issues with the cutbacks or re-entries and I think the 6'8" has definitely made this experience better. I'm going to keep an eye on the Twin Tracker. My new Album Plasmic Mid Length has no issue with all that stuff above however it's missing the drive of SSB. Cheers!
@@SkipperSurfReview You might also like to consider edge boards, these have a bevelled or chined rail. Look at the Steward 949 Comp, or a boutique Edge board design in a speed egg shape which I think will tick all your boxes from grovel surf to double overhead. 7'0 with around 46L, you'll be surprised at how well they go.
The Twin Tracker is not a grovel board, it does catch mush and small waves easily but it will not light up the rail like a wave with some juice will. You need to change your surfing mindset for different conditions, go for a more mellow approach over wanting to power and carve.
On the drive issue with the Plasmic easy fix, use a keel in place of the AM's tor MR style uprights. The SSb has significantly more surface area in 4 fins than the two you have been running. Uprights give good pivot, and if the wave has some power it allows you to engage the rail for drive, but in smaller mush you need surface area in the fins for drive. I like the Alkali Keels or the Machado new keel design, I think these have some of the biggest surface area in keels. Machado's are more upright so should offer better pivot, and Alkali are more swept so likely better drive. As an out of the box idea have a go at Powerdrives or S-Wings Twin Keel fins.
Keep the reviews coming, they are awesome and based on how us "normal" guys surf so are totally relatable. Not sure if you have seen the Average Guys board reviews format from South Africa? You should set yourself up to do similar and invite manufacturers to supply items for trials and reviews.
Nothing like a custom. My creeper was custom.
Dank
Nice
Did you say it was a PU? do you know if you could order a custom 5 fin? Instead of a quad? Thanks
Yes, he did. I'm pretty sure they can do it if you request it. It would be really interesting to ride is as a thruster. If I go custom soon, I'll likely order it in size 6'6". Cheers!
got my 6'8" in october and havent tried it yet im 6'3" 190 lbs between an intermediate and beginner
Nice! Im about to order a custom in this size. Got way too stoked after this!
@@SkipperSurfReview awesome see you at rockaway soon maybe lol
@@9soccerplayr Haha. HMU when you are around🤙🏽
I would love to see you review the mid 6 by HI. I have two Moes and being 51 with a shortboarding background tey suit my surfing better than any of the other mid-lengths and I have tried quite a few. I am thinking about selling a Moe to get a mid 6 but would love to see someone other than Harley riding them - hahaha.
Hey Sam! I can’t wait to get it once it becomes available here in US. Hopefully they will arrive to the surf shops this month🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
@@SkipperSurfReview thanks - cant wait. What do you think would be the major difference in the SS&B in timbertek? Would you go LFT over timbertek? Im older and bigger - 210 pounds
Do you know what shop will have the mid6 here in ny? Been looking at that. Also, what’s your fav overall mid-length for Rockaway?
@@samleary5657 Sorry for the late response. I thought I replied to you earlier. I don't think there will be a major difference. I would say a slight difference in terms of flex/feel of a glide and the most noticeable one is aesthetic design. Some people just don't like boards that look like a wood. The performance characteristics will be harder to distinct unless you surf it in the wavepool on the same wave. Hope this helps!
@@vantvu I doubt any surf shop would get them. I've never seen Harley Ingleby's surfboards around here. Real Watersports may get them soon + Brave New World Surf & Snow down in Pt Pleasant. My favorite Mid Length at this moment is 7.2 Album Plasmic (not custom). I picked up a stock board from albumsurf.com
The Second choice is SSAB and then CI Mid :) Hope this helps!
plastic plastic plastic mmm
I know, descent amount of bubble wrap. I've got two boards from Album and they send all of them in Flexi-Hex (more ECO friendly). My friend is gonna keep it for traveling to Maldives :)
