    Here’s my first impression of Rob Machado’s Seaside and Beyond by Firewire. I've included some footage from a session on it in some small Venice waves. Just a heads up this is not a surf shop level review, just first impressions from a below average to average surfer trying to get better! I haven’t been on the mid length that much these days but it was the gateway drug to the longboard which I am loving. Think the Dan Mann line suits me more than the Machado boards. The Seaside and the Seaside & Beyond are both very responsive but you have to have your back foot right over the fins. That's where a tail patch helps. When you feel your foot centered on the arch bar and right up against the tail kick it gives you the confidence that your foot is right where it needs to be to do a hard turn. The knifey rail back on the tail holds surprisingly well too.

    • @BenConley
      @BenConley  Před 3 lety

      I’m still learning myself so it’s really hard to say. If we were closer in size I might be able to offer better advice. Plus I went up in volume/size to this board versus dropping down so it’s a completely different experience. The only thing I can say is take a look at volume. It really depends on your athletic ability and how fast you’re progressing but I don’t think you want to make a huge jump in volume when you’re starting out. For example an 8’0 Wavestorm has 80+ liters of volume and the 7’0 Seaside and Beyond is 45 liters. That’s a massive change. Another thing I’ll say is the SSB isn’t particularly wide. It’s actually pretty narrow so if you’re coming down from something big and wide, this will feel like night and day and it could be frustrating. If you’re super keen and are getting good fast then maybe it’ll be easier to transition to something like the Seaside and Beyond but again it’s really hard for me to say. Sorry I can’t be more helpful!

      @BenConley  Před 2 lety +1

      You know I hadn’t heard of the ADDvance until you mentioned it but after looking up dims/ shape the ADDvance is much wider and thicker. The Seaside and Beyond is pretty pulled in at the back and the 7’0 only has 45L of volume where the 7’0 ADDvance looks like it has about 60L.
