Ordered a custom HAND SHAPED TWINZER Surfboard "Panza" from SOMMA SPECIAL DESIGNS Episode
What's up, guys! In this episode, we dive into an in-depth conversation about the Twinzer design and the complete process of ordering a custom hand-shaped surfboard with Shea Somma @sheasomma
Somma Special Designs began in my backyard shed in 2008 with a desire to create and sample various niche board designs from the obscure corners of surfing that had intrigued me for years. Hulls, logs, and fishes were the first three areas of inquiry, and I've been chasing the unique sensations offered by alternative designs ever since. I believe surfboards are conduits to experiences, and as a shaper, I have the privilege of guiding those experiences through the shapes I create. I view hand shaping as a creative practice that allows me to tune shapes to different riders at will, in the moment. Shaping by hand is a daily practice for me that is both supremely functional and personally gratifying.
Different design attributes lead to different sensations in the rider, and the goal in creating a design is to conjure an array of sensations into a perfectly balanced board. Speed with control. Responsiveness with stability. Paddle power with sensitivity. Refined beauty with durability. The aim is to make beautiful handmade objects that function incredibly well and last for decades. Let’s make something rad together!

    I really don’t like surfing my 5’7 mashup over 5ft. When it gets into 6-8 I don’t even consider it so it’s validating to hear you had the same somewhat frustrating experience trying to surf 6-8 onshore haha which…on the central coast of CA where I live…is typical in the winter so it’s usually my early fall board. Honestly, I bought a Lost RNF instead that I surf before I get into my step up. It handles some size and critical sections way better way better. Thanks for the honest review bru !

    Do you think that this would be a good minisimons alternative for a bigger guy? I'm 6'3" and 210lbs. I always struggle on boards less than 6'4 as my back foot lands off the board. It pretty much looks like a longer minisimons but the fin placement is a bit different. Great video btw. 👌

    • @SkipperSurfReview
      @SkipperSurfReview Před 2 měsíci

      Thank you, buddy! It’s not quite a Mini Simmons. Based on your height and weight, the 6’6” Beastie 2.0 would feel more like a shortboard for you but more user friendly. Your ideal Mini Simmons size would be 5’10” x 22 x 3, which would give you enough float and make it easier to turn the board back to the pocket. What boards do you surf now?

      @@SkipperSurfReview thanks for your advice. I'm ridding a 6'10 (60L) Softech Bomber at the moment since I snapped my longboard in January. I used to find it quite easy to swap between the two boards. The Fanning 6'6 would be quite a drop in litres though, although it would have a similar surface area to the Bomber which I actually find really easy to surf.

      Thanks for watching! If you're at a beginner level, you'll find it easier to catch waves and ride them on the Beastie 2.0. It offers better hold on turns and performs well on bigger days. The Twin Town, on the other hand, is more skatey and provides greater speed down the line.Hope this helps!

    Hi there, within all the Lovelace boards which are the main differences that you found surfing them?

      Hey man! It’s hard to say, they are all different but in general, they are mostly used friendly with good foam up front for easy paddling and catching waves. Hope this helps!

    Hey there I need your help as I just can't decide which mid to buy. 20yrs of surf, looking for something that can help fairly cheat crowdy days (more glide?) and still have that performance-y shortboard feel. I read tons of review but I can't really decide as I know how it works with boards and i'm afraid to waste money. I'm 80kg, 178cm looking for a cool mid to catch tons of waves and have lot of maneuverabilty. Which one do you suggest? Thank you!

      Hey Giamma! I would say you can’t go wrong with CI Tri Plane Hull Single or CI Mid Twin, Seaside and Beyond quad, JS Big Baron Twin fin, Album Plasmid with the diamond tail. Hope this helps!
