      The youth have never been told the truth, this Gen made Ghana self reliant. Everything, was Ghana made in his days. Until the clueless JJ stepped in and closed all industries out of jealousy which affected even primary producers up to this day. Ghana has indeed regressed so backward in centuries and with our outstanding national debt, if you even sell the country, it cannot repay.

    Acheampong was a leader who sought to transfer the Ghanaian economy into the hands of Ghanaians. Unfortunately he was betrayed and assassinated. Under Acheampong Ghana didn't borrow from the IMF . It was his time that Ghana Black Stars won the Africa Cup forthe third time. Acheampong built the Dawenya project, the Kpong Dam, Tono irrigation project, Dansoman Estates..He launched the Operation Feed Yourself programme which saw Ghana becoming self sufficient in food production.

      Hopefully you do know that the Asante and Akyems mainly... were the ones who encouraged both coups... main reason why they did not pull the trigger was because the Akan frowned on joining the military hence were not a majority of the officer corps who carried out coups... there surely were akwapims in the top aferi / otu but the middle level were gas and ewes and people from the northern territories... but the instigator of most coups were the NLM/UP matemeho factions who realized in an free open elections they could not win a majority, mainly because they did not have good policies .. they are micro nationalists and arrogant so the reset of the populations was never going to vote for them... hence they resorted in tacitly financing and laying grounds for certain officers to organize coups.. notice how they overthrew nkrumah and acheampong.. Now please know that most killings and murders happened in both anti nkrumah/acheampong coups.. kotoka/africa killed and terrorized the country and then rawlings came and overthrew pnp/liman's cpp aligned government also murdered and killed a lot.... do you think the asante/akyem shed a tear over the overthrow of liman's government? definitely not... they were quietly jubilating
      the afrifa killing was long overdue... as kotoka is who looped him into the 1966 coup in order to get Asante support for an ewe coup...later for some strange reason like afrifa finding himself in the north when kotoka was killed by those brave young men, arthur/yeboa... and then wonders of wonders afrifa became brigadier and then boom general... the ewe's never forgave him.. they just bid their time... in my book justifiably..there's no honor among thieves.. he outwitted them and they got him in the end... again he participated in the maiming and killing of a lot of people aligned with nkrumah myself and most right thinking ghanaians shed no tears.

    Ghana Food Distribution centres across the country, which offered standard prices for food stuff so it controlled prices. Employment of food distribution franchises were all over the country. Fish and meat cottages.

    Every 6th March, school children both in public and private were given a full box of chocolate to celebrate the day.

    Great doc that has piqued my interest in Ghana post independence and how each head of state came into power and how they were disposed. My only criticism is that they really didn’t delve into why Gen Acheampong was overthrown. What were the true conditions on the people? I have read of military brutality during this period, I did not see any of that in this doc. Just would have like to see a more balanced perspective but this will suffice for now.

    • @jasonc0065
      @jasonc0065 Před 3 měsíci +1

      How my understanding about Ghana has evolved.
      The first time I learned about Ghana was from MLK. He had promoted Nkrumah as the hope for Africa's future.
      But not many sources were available on Africa back in 2000. The encyclopedias told me that Nkrumah and his successors were corrupt and that Rawlings cleaned up the mess. I was also concluding that King, Mandela and similar activists were communists. I had taken the King pill from Alan Stang. King simply isn't the color-blind black conservative that the GOP thinks he is. So now I thought that Nkrumah is one of these communists. I thought that Rawlings was the conservative leader that rolled back Nkrumah's communism. I even forgot that there were leaders between Nkrumah and Rawlings.
      More recently, I learn about the CIA and the Cold War. Dulles attacked anything that vaguely resembles the left. Arbenz, Mossadegh, and Lumumba were not communists. Now Trump is one of these martyrs. Blaming Russia is nothing new.
      Then I read George Ayittey. He has a low opinion about everything. He supported Kufuor. I watched
      New Africa. Their videos indicated that the conservative leader that rolled back Nkrumah's communism is Busia. However, they do not go over the rest of Ghana's history. I never understood why so many coups were necessary.
      I moved towards the conclusion that Rawlings was not one of the good guys. Some sources even say that Rawlings was a communist. I concluded that Ghana's struggle is against both communists and fascists. Nkrumah was right about the terrorists, but that does not justify his autocracy. Acheampong's coup against a democratic leader indicates that he is a fascist. The first coup of Rawlings was necessary to remove a dictator but the second coup was unnecessary. The autocratic behavior of Rawlings after 1990 resembles Museveni. Kufuor is Ghana's Bobi Wine. Mahama seems like the return of Rawlings. Akufo-Addo is the return of Kufuor. It made sense.
      But this video tells me I am wrong again. It now seems that Acheampong did not betray Lumumba. Akufo-Addo's behavior does not make sense. No one in the GOP today would be supporting the 1619 Project. Akufo-Addo is a RINO. Ghana is complicated. Lumumba turns out to be similar to Clarence Thomas. His words included: "we will eradicate all discrimination whatever its origin". The left treats Clarence Thomas like an evolué. They spit in his face and call him ape. Malcolm does not recommend chumps.

    • @jasonc0065
      @jasonc0065 Před 3 měsíci

      I must add that I discovered how toxic Ayittey can be. I admire his staunch capitalism, but that is as far as it goes. He supports Obama, Soros, and the Nobel Savage Prize. He approves of the assassination of Gaddafi. Calls Lumumba a socialist. Agrees with Malema what Boers must go. He is now deceased. Ayittey is a WEF socialist. Promotes ubuntu. His agenda: you will own nothing, eat Pygmies and be happy. He is influenced by Rousseau's noble savage theory, and it shows. Kanye hates ubuntu. Lumumba is an individualist: without dignity there is no freedom.
