A traitor is really worse than an enemy this is my conclusion after listening to this interview and reading the comments especially that of Goldgem Infinity.
Vengeance belongs to God. My deepest condolences to all the families of all political victims post independence.
Who will avenge our ancestors who were sold by other ancestors as slaves and lost their lives miserably😥😥😥😥 in the castles and enroute to the west indies?
Let's use history to learn from the mistakes of others and leave revenge to whom vengeance belong.
    God have mercy on Ghana!
    God bless Ghana!

History tells us Boakye Gyan didn’t organise and wasn’t the main man that made the coup 4th June 1979. It was organised by some lower ranked soldiers who were moved by Rawlings speech when he was on trial for the 5th May 79 coup. Boakye Gyan and Rawlings only came in because the lower ranked soldiers lacked the capabilities of being in charge of the country because their level of education was low so behind the seens they were controlling Rawlings and Boakye Gyan. Boakye Gyan is creating a hero for himself.

This is correct. Boakye Gyan was a Captain, and when the shooting started, no one above Lieutenant would have been safe. He was always just an academic person and his theories of how to take over Africa were never what Rawlings was about - Otherwise that is what the AFRC would have done.
He came in once the shooting stopped.
Rawlings was the one broken out by corporals and privates. And Boakye Gyan was elevated in history by his own ability to tell stories and the Limann's regime's need for someone other than Rawlings to take a heroic position.
The man took his bribe and left the country. He went to the Uk and whatever intention he had to Unite Africa by Military Junta remained theory only for the curios who would listen.
Meanwhile, without his so-called strategist self, Rawlings came back to power in 1981 and Boakye Gyan, had he ever been part of something larger, would hhave come straight back to join Tsikata and the others. But instead, he managed to slink back in after Rawlings was out of power and start telling these fibs.

If Major Gyan is the Head of Government in 1979 why was Rawlings is the one captured in videos and pictures handling over power to Liman. He claimed Rawlings has run away or go into hiding after he was break out from jail. That was false either. You listen to other officers like Issaka braima and others in the 5 battalion said otherwise. I dunno what break the relationship between him and Rawlings but i guess there is bitterness in this man words. If he cliamed Rawlings is guilty he's more than guilty as well. He break him out of jail for his own interest, according to his speech there's letter that suggest Rawlings and his friends should be killed and he been Rawlings best man at his wedding he knows he'll be in danger if he doesn't act quickly. He stands not for the love for Ghana but he's afraid to die. Such a Coward. Rawlings stands for what he believes till he dies. Mr Gyan if Rawlings is guilty you are guilty as well, you snitch.

    @villageradio3907 Před 3 lety +7

Rubbish. Journalists in Ghana need to do basic corroboration of their stories. Boakye Gyan was not even on the field until June 5th midday. Like anyone above the rank of Lieutenant, he fled, and this is known to those he immediately commanded.
The reason for June 4th was a reaction. Rawlings attempt on May 15th was to force the hand of Government to make ammends for the abuse of power over the previous 6yrs, because they were going back to barracks and everyone including Afrifa (who wrote as much to Acheampong) feared the armed forces will be disbanded. The lower ranks were incensed at the thought of being punished for the actions of their commanders who were sure to retire with fat pensions.
When Rawlings called out the injustices for which reason he attempted his mutiny, and Justice Aikens read the entirety of his speech had he taken power, the lower ranks decided to take matters into their own hands. What Rawlings had feared would happen if officers like himself didn't take over and force a military style national reconciliation happened on June 4th, and Rawlings was handed over the reigns of power over an army in complete revolt, and a majority population in support, calling for bloody justice.
The notion that the reason for the coup was to punish military takeovers is invented by Boakye Gyan who was not even in charge of the events to decide why it happened. he was just the spokesperson.
A more likely reason he's taken this position is to incriminate the 31st December coup as a betrayal by Rawlings of the 'spirit' of June 4th.
In reality, June 4th was a violent reaction by an army in the face of its own disbandment. Those who took charge had little option that to balance between satisfying the call for steep judgement and calming nerves.
Boakye Gyan left after handover, taking the money government gave him to leave and going to the UK. There he attempted a coup against Rawlings in 1983 or so, which failed. His brother was executed and his sister arrested. He wasn't on the ground to have anything to say about who did what and he certainly has motive to cast a false sense of guilt over the leadership of the PNDC - Which again, he TRIED TO remove by coup.
Do you research before you interview certain people. It isn't hard. Interview his immediate subordinates who actually fought during June 4th and they will tell you Boakye Gyan took to his heels on hearing a private or corporal shout out "Kill all the officers". He only came when coaxed to because his name was called by Rawlings, who knew he was a snake, but felt he was an eloquent speaker.
These are basic facts you can read in books and through interviews. Stop lying about crucial parts of Ghana's history. It affects more than just the present.

After all your long talk ask yourself this.
How did Rawlings make him his second in command if he knew he was a coward and a traitor?
If we are to believe Rawlings knew all these about him as you claim and yet went ahead to make him the second in command of the AFRC then Rawlings was the dumbest soldier I have ever seen
Can't you see that from this basic question alone your whole narration is full of half truths and deceit?

Boakye Gyan took cover alright, so did Rawlings. But the boys were actually fighting were receiving orders from Capt. Baa Achamfour, who was actually on the field fighting and Boagye Gyan . This is why we can't mention June 4th without Boagye Gyan. The ironic thing is the mention of Rawlings when talking June 4th. Rawlings on spoke at GBC, and run away 😂

Can you say with conviction qualitatively and quantitatively that for nearly 20 years J J Rawlings ruled the country we saw a lot of physical developments and a better or improved living standard for the people of Ghana.
The least spoken of NDC's rule and development the better it is, incidental to Nana Akufo Addo' s three years

This man should at least be in jail. Who is he kidding. Go ask the family of his victims. Go ask those that were drag naked through the streets of Ghana. Give me a break with the so called revolution. It was murder and carnage. This man laughs with an expression of some kind of achievement. Has he got a soul? So weird to watch him. Please don't give these people the platform to continue to smear salt into injuries they inflicted. If Charles Taylor is in jail, why aren't these people? He claims he and his gangsters applied the constitution to murder the head of states. What constitution? The first thing Rawlings announced at the radio station was the suspension of the constitution or whatever judicial system we had.

In other interviews, it was rumored at the time that Afrifa killed Kotoka (his own colleague in the first coup) hence the "Dzelukope Mafia" comprising of Kojo Tsikata, Kofi Awoonor, and others of Ewe background had Afrifa on their Wanted-List already. June 4th squad decided to use him as scape goat to "appease Ghanaians"...so to speak. There was no evidence to that claim though.
