  • In this video I replace the transmission speed sensor in my 2000 Chevy Suburban if your speedometer and odometer don't work than most likely replacing the speed sensor will fix it but unlike my case I replaced the whole cluster and the sensor and it still doesn't work so it must be a wiring issue if you would like to follow my garage amino or instagram here are the links. So from what I've learned, most of these 4WD vehicles have 2 speed sensors on the transfer case. The one you replaced on the passenger side was the speed sensor for the 4WD, which does not communicate with the speedometer and is only there for the Auto 4WD button so it can know when to engage said 4WD. There's another one on the drivers side, which is the MAIN speed sensor that actually communicates with the speedometer. However this is just what I've learned from reading various comments on youtube videos with this problem, so this may not be the case for everyone.

      Your right! Most people on you tube should explain this correctly. No wonder why there so many upset people on here because people give false information.

    The transmission speed sensor doesn't control the speed odometer , the wheel speed sensors do which are on each wheel. The one on the transmission and transfer case control the shifting , if the sensor is bad the transmission will shift incorrectly or knock when shifting .

    I have a 04 escalade same problem those dashes are the worst they are just saudered in usually it could be that itslef or if you have after market rims that would cause it to

    Some had two sensors the one in the transmission from my knowledge communicates with the abs system to help the abs module to control the hydraulic pressure to either your back brakes or all brakes depends on the year and it it's 4 wheel drive. Now the actual speed sensor for the speedometer could be located in two places. The first would be the cable going from the transmission to the speedometer with would be the speedometer cable. The next would be a sensor located near the hub assembly on the vehicle. Note some have one and some have sensors on two.

    Having this same issue 2000 4x4 suburban did a transmission swap and the guy hooked up a transfer case (blue and green wire plug) to the sensor. I had already replaced the pcm, cluster, bcm. And checked all fuses. Tonight I found the wire issue and corrected it still no fix and my scan tool isn't reading speed either. Have a new pcm on the way. I've also heard of but yet to locate a white relay cube behind the glove box that some how has been a fix for people. If anyone has fixed this issue please let me know. I'll probably post more tomorrow when I dig into it a little deeper.

    does the odometer run off this sensor too? My odometer clocks miles, my needle bounces or does nothing.

    I have a 2001 Chevy Tahoe 4 x 4 5.3 L motor and I simply replace both sensors On the transmission and now it shifts correctly And my speedometer works and before I changed the sensors my abs and brake light on my dash were on... but after being Told that I needed a new transmission or a new wiring harness I did some research and found out it could be those sensors in the transmission like the video shows!!! Try changing both

      Are u talking about the solenoids inside the oil pan i was having that issue after a transmission replacement and i belive they conected the plugs backwards between the 2 speed sensor and now the abs light and break light is off speedometer started working but doesnt read over 30 mph even going faster and doesnt shift on time

    My 2002 Chevy Silverado two wheel drive won't go into gear the RPMs go all the way up but it goes in reverse and drive just wondering would it be the sensor

    • @abbafather5518
      @abbafather5518 Před rokem

      That more than likely could be your shift solenoids inside the transmission

      i have not figured it out yet i have tried countless working clusters and still nothing it has to be either a break in the wiring or something with the bcm i think

      BOOSTIN IT GARAGE I've looked online and read that the ground connection could be bad or the wire that connects to the vss either was bad and eaten by rodents or something...try looking at that if u havnt done so already...good luck and let me know what uve figured out...I'm in the same boat and can't find the solution

    The nice thing is, the easiest fix to this (if the speed sensor swap didn't work) is to buy a GPS based "HEADS UP" from somewhere like Amazon. I swapped my gear ratio to 4.10 on my 99 Suburban, and it threw my speedometer off by as much as 20mph at highway speeds. Dealer refuses to try to reflash the pcm to compensate (tried several dealers). For about $50 I just got the heads-up speedometer, and now I just ignore what's on the dash. Unfortunately it also makes it rack up miles about 15% quicker but at 200K already, who cares.

      RedfishCarolina I use a free app called digiHUD its almost spot on accurate and it tracks average mph top speed driven and bunch of other features been using it for a year now
