      You may olso want to check for beep sounds, since they give you sometimes a hint about bad components. Olso the lack ob beep sounds can be helpful for the diagnosis.

      thank you! gives me areas to look into. my pc will start to run fans and lights the instant i press power button, but then turns off only to turn on for good a half a second later... i tried removing and reinstalling ram, power connectors ect but still no effect. odd cause it runs perfectly once it does start. but litterly every single time i go to turn on it turns off for brief second and then fires up as normal... very very very annoying! please help if you can.

    This video is good to terrify ppl who does not know and are facing this problem with pc. Instead of being helpful & providing a solution which one try themselves, you are making them more confused and terrified by talking of psu/ power supply issues. Why can't you ( tech influencers) be straightforward !! Not to you specifically but to all

  • @GregM
    @GregM Před 4 lety +54

    If you are using a modular power supply I would also check to ensure that the cables plugging into the actual power supply are firmly seated. Never know what gremlins have snuck in and loosened those cables slightly ;)

    I fixed a laptop the other day that had an odd problem. The owner took it with them on a vacation to Florida for a week and used it while sitting on the beach. Turned out that they ram contacts actually began to corrode as a result of being exposed to salt carried on the sea breeze. I pulled the ram modules out and cleaned them and now the laptop works just fine. Not a good idea to use a computer on the beach.

    Thanks so much for this video. This morning my husband turned on his PC only to have it shut down almost immediately. I Googled the problem and was directed to your video which we found to be very clear and informative. We are in our mid 60's and not capable of pulling a PC apart so we decided to check out possible external causes. We planned to remove all the USB plugs but opted for checking the power source first.
    Although the PC power cable has been plugged into a Monster Power multi-plug for three years we thought we’d start with that. We removed the plug from the multi-board and plugged it directly into a wall socket and hey presto the PC fired up. A few days ago, during a storm, our house was plunged into darkness for a moment, but the PC kept working. Shortly after that we lost all power for nearly an hour so we’re thinking that might have damaged the multi-plug. However, everything else plugged into the multi-plug is still operating. Thanks again.

    Hey, I have a question, When I turned on my computer it turned off in around a second, I checked and my monitor and everything plugged into the computer still could turn on. So I returned on my pc and it turned on fine again and it worked. I find it odd as everyone else's videos are showing how to fix a reoccurring problem but this happened once today and turned on fine when I tried again. Do you think this could be just a random mistake from the computer because everything is working fine now? my motherboard has an orange light that is always on and it never turned off like the motherboard was bad and it never turned off like the power supply turned off.

    I faced this issue today. I got this PC built from old spare parts all over the places and I expected to ecounter some errors now and then. However, it is still so weird that I just use the PC this morning completely fine then out-of-nowhere it didnt boot up by the noon. It did swing the fan a second or two though. I have check the PSU and it still giving out the power as the boot-up signal given. Then I tried to re-sit the CPU, It boot up for a while then turn-off again. Then I garther up all the equipment to do some cleaning for CPU socket and CPU itself ( and also clean the GPU a little bit). I had been already thinking of buy another spare CPU when I put everything back and fire up the PC for the 1st time and it die down immediately again. Then as I giving it the second try, It turn out to be back in normal ... In the end, I think we just can cross our fingers and wish for luck ...

Is this what you called overheating?

    Mine does this but then turns back on immediately after another second. The power button on the front turns on and within that split-second the fan starts moving but then everything shuts off, including the power button, for another second until everything YET AGAIN comes right back on. Is this normal?

    My computer worked perfectly and then I moved it some and the feet of it fell off my rug and hit the floor which is like 1/4 of an inch and it bumped it barely any and that was right when I was turning it on and it turned on and showed the wallpaper and it wouldn’t work to move the mouse or push the windows button on the keyboard so I turned it off now it won’t startup, like I press the button and the blue lights turn on and the fans spin and the tiny screen inside my computer that normally shows random stuff and changes really fast when it’s turning on was stuck at 55 and it immediately turns off, like it only turns on for like 2 seconds, my computer is custom built but I didn’t build it and I don’t want to open it because I know nothing about building and taking apart gaming PCs

    I had a problem where my computer when first time starting that day would reset almost instantly. But to get Win 10 to boot properly, I have to power off and restart. I changed the PS first and everything or disconnected everything, switched video card, change all SATA cables, boot drive, disconnected all peripherals, but I have to wait a day or more to see if that corrected the problem. Later upgraded computer in the studio, and this computer was upgraded with that ones old parts. Same problem, I couldn't believe it, with different MB, RAM, then case. I even changed the power cord and power strip. Then I remembered some one left out the CPU fan plug on one motherboard a few years ago, and I got a few loud beeps, and that computer turned off. I asked myself, what if these MB's don't sense the CPU fan turning and they restart automatic? I think I used the same fan on my 212 EVO cooler? I may have just slid it off? Last week I gave my son 64GB of my 128GB RAM, I won't need that much outside the studio. The side cover is off, and I now I spin the CPU fan while I power up, and no re-start has occurred in about 8 days. The fan is not dirty or anything. By Friday, if this keep solving the problem, moving or shaking the computer case also worked too. Then I will replace that fan with another I have.

    Decided to clean my pc and install a ssd, it lights up on the motherboard when plugged in but when pressing the power button it starts up, fans start spinning but will turn itself off immediately, like not even 5 seconds.. does it in one... The person who built this thing did 0 cable management and theres just wires everywhere.. looks like i gotta buy a whole new rig because i dont have a chuffing clue ehats going on.. whelp

  • @Devilsharck
    @Devilsharck Před 4 lety +1

    Sometimes it can be caused by a power button failure. From experience the power button can break in a way where it is constantly acting like it's being pressed in, so as soon as windows boots the OS will shut down as it thinks you have been pressing the power button down for over 8 secs or so, even though you haven't touched the case and the button doesn't look like anything is wrong with it.

    • @Britec09
      @Britec09  Před 4 lety +1

      power button failure would be not turning on in most cases and you would have power to the motherboard.

    • @Devilsharck
      @Devilsharck Před 4 lety +4

      @@Britec09 As you say in most cases you are correct. My PC was shutting down shortly after turning it on, and it was a faulty power button on the case which was the cause. The power button was supplying the motherboard with power throughout and so made it very difficult and time consuming to diagnose. So yes a very rare instance but if you don't connect the PC case/tower buttons to your motherboard and instead use a screwdriver to connect the pins on the motherboard to power on your PC when troubleshooting, it may save you a lot of time and frustration.
