  • In this video I take you along for the ride as I troubleshoot a gaming computer that was brought into my shop. As it turns out the pc is doing what's known as power cycling. There could be many different reasons for this issue but I show you the steps I take to narrow things down to the culprit. Almost always this is a sign of a hardware problem so let the testing begin. If you are ever in the Savannah GA area stop by my shop and say hello.

Greetings Tim, great video! Thanks for sharing. I would've liked seen the test with out video card using on board video then switching the memory modules and lastly using a psu tester. Lucky you you have those spare parts... I still wonder how a MOBO and GPU will go bad at the sametime? Power issue?

Is it almost always the board failing.

Not sure if you know this, but when you pop the battery you don't need to jump the cmos header. Mainly only need to jump the header when the battery can't be popped

I've been pc gaming and building PC's since around 2007. Never had a single graphics card or motherboard fail. I got into computers when I found a $1500 computer ($4,000 - $5,000 toady's value) in an electronic recycling bin. Brought it home put some heatsink paste on the processor and it worked great for at least 10 years got outdated so I built a new one. Googled a wireless networking issue i'm having and the "This is Rare!" got me interested as well as side tracked.

I had the same issue today after cleaning my PC. removed all the rams plugged in one 8 GB RAM first and restarted my PC. it worked and then I plugged all 4 in. Now it's working fine. I might not have plugged in the RAM properly.

I got some new ram and 1 of the 4 sticks cause power cycle. And when it tried to boot one time the screen went blue with a black line and another thin blue like in the middle. I decided 24gb would work. It did blue-screen on me for the 1st time aswell

Currently dealing with a similar issue, but was hoping for a bad PSU. Server board with dual Xeons and 64GB of ECC memory. No matter what, it refuses to post.

I had the same problem: cause that specific Cooler Master cpu cooler. The 4 screws that go in de mainboard are to wide on de bottom and will put pressure on the lanes in the mainboard causing the problem. Try to loosen the 4 screws holding down the cpu cooler. It will work again. Replace with a diff cpu cooler and problem solved. That mainboard is a 100% not faulty

Reason i suggested checking the PSU was that if it had an issue it could be responsible for destroying multiple parts in the rig with 1 faulty rail.

i feel liek your jumping to conclusions with otu testing more to prove yourself wrong ! eacxmple your assuming its the motherboard and video card i can see why you woudl think video card but why think motherboard why not put everything back in the original mobo except the video card and try with the basic one test again see if it responds if so then boot it but then maybe put together a workling set up but different and try that video card in ther other set up because sometimes a pc might have a gpuid exclusion so it thinks this card had somethign go wrong and wont let it work but then you put it in another pc and it works like new and so then you have to start with a diff card or on board video and update drivers and try agin and then once getting ti to re recognize the card you can update evertythjign as a whole
