I love that newedges are starting to get way more love over the last couple of years, great cars and like you said common, cheap parts and a lot of aftermarket support
It helps to have company's step up to the plate make some parts specifically for drifting. Years ago I had a 93 Mustang and nobody at that time offered anything close to angle kit for them 👎🏻
I learned how to drive in a 2002 Roush Mustang. That learning experience included some donuts, figure 8s and entry level skids. 🙂 You're right about the terrible factory steering angle but other than that, these cars make a lot of sense. That Roush happens to be my mother's one owner car and I plan on taking it over when she's ready to part with it. It's a stage 2, recently supercharged with 330 whp and 350 tq. ❤
Learning to drive with that much power must've been a blast!
@Typical_Garage It was indeed! My first time out of a parking lot after figuring the clutch, I pulled out and began an 8 hour road trip. I also hit 100 mph with my mom's permission! Lmao 😂 That car is about as close to family as a piece of metal can get. 💕
@@renerpups Love that!
Thanks for sharing, good info
Always happy to help!
hell yeah, I just picked up a mustang to do a big drift build (sold my ae86). came across this video. nice work dude, excited for the learning process!
OH, pro tip for the steering angle. Apparently, there are sleeves or pucks or whatever in the factory steering rack that you can shorten or remove to get more travel. Chris Fix did that to his SN95 and I believe he gained 10-12 degrees of steering angle, getting it overall into the low-to-mid 40-degree range.
I did this and wasn't that impressed with the difference. like from driving experience, there was much of a noticeable change
BTW you don't need to LS swap it. Twisted Wedge 2V heads and a David Vizard spec cam will get you at or above 400whp. Could push it even higher with a high-compression build and some port-biasing work (like what David does) to the twisted wedge heads. As far as the exhaust issue, well, I assume part of the problem is that the driveshaft has to have a travel distance due to live axle problems.
So a "fix" that I theorize might be a bit easier than a full IRS conversion (especially IRS with GOOD geometry and strength, quite unlike the Cobra IRS) would be to build and convert the car to a De-Dion axle with a Satchell Link. Bonus points if you do it with a Corvette-style rear-CV transaxle and use inboard brakes, too.
I agree that an LS swap isn't essential but it is one of the most practical swaps for guys starting off in a base model V6 car.
agreed. basically have to go full custom exhaust to get it as high up as i can and even still it scrapes every so often
I would definitely say upgrade the entire rear end on the sn95/new edge bc I put a LSD carrier in mine, 4.10 and 31 spline axels and I haven't had any issues with it
I think gearing should depend on what type of power is being made. 4.10's with a stock 4.6 2v is a solid option. I went 3.73 because a cammed GM 5.3 makes a bit more power than that.
I agree, this lack of steering angle just sucks to deal with. I just bought an angle kit and coilovers basically out of necessity. My clutch packs failed twice already in less than a year, so Im just gonna weld it after i slap a dual caliper set up on it. Why did you LS swap btw? I know the 2v aint really worth upgrading
angle kit, coilovers and a good diff is really all it takes for these cars. As far as why I did the LS is because this car was originally a V6. After I sent 2 rods through the oil pan I decided I wasn't putting another V6 back in. lol
What angle kit you have
what bumper/lip is that?
Could not agree with everything you said more man. I drift a 1998 gt. I did a tko trans with a twin disc, because trick flow heads, cams, forged rods and pistons, bigger valves, link ecu, 200 shot of nitrous. I did a full drift domestic front end, fortune auto coilovers, ksport front brakes and I built my own handbrake setup....just like the rest of the car actually. I built the engine myself (didn't even take it to the machine shopy car had 89,000 miles when I bought it. In the wrapper. I did all bbk rear arms because its good stuff. I got her down to 3020 with me in it. I'm 6'5 240. Still has a/c and I haul a Bluetooth speaker around with me for tunes when I have a good lookin passenger. However I built my exhaust out of oval tubing from vibrant. I paid the money for a 6 foot length of it and I gotta say, it was TOTALLY worth it. My headers meet into the 2 inch thick 4 inch wide oval, pie cuts to get a 45° bend, out right before the passenger rear wheel cut at the same angle as the body. It makes 440 barefoot and 650 on spray. More than enough for me. My car never breaks, it always starts and she's an absolute monster. 305s on the back 285 up front.
Love that! Mind if I ask how often your going through a bottle of spray on track?
@@Typical_Garage brother ur a fellow slidy boi AND a mustang guy. You can ask me whatever the F you want. Honestly it depends on the layout. At grange I don't even use the bottle. But at my local track outside of Reno, Nevada the bottle runs empty after the 4th set of tires is dusted. The bottle lasts pretty much all day. I do have a full throttle activation. I put a floor mounted BMW right pedal in my car. They have that little click at wide open throttle which is what activates the solenoid. I arm the system with the fog light button, windshield washer is my purge. Lotta repinning but, it was worth it.
Are the v6 worth it?
There are plastic spacers that can be removed out of the steering rack to get more angle..
I did do this mod and it certainly didn't hurt anything but I didn't notice much of a difference while driving
Oh yeah and the number 1 reason to drift a stang is KBD"S new body kit!!! whattttt looks PERFECT for this chassis!
I've seen it and agree it looks good but isn't my #1 pick tbh. I mean, If they gave me one for free, i'd put it on but I wouldn't spend my money on it
So im a beginner drifter who has no experience in drifting and my first drift car is a 91 foxbody gt. It does not have the stock 5.0. Ive done a 2011 crown vic 4.6 swap and a t45 trans. Im on coils, but i have not yet touched the steering angle on the car? Should i get seat time before getting an angle kit?
for sure get as much seat time as you can with or without an angle kit but be aware the stock angle is going to be your next bottle neck to address
Very nice video, one quick question more on the boring side, how do you go about insuring this this, is it a non-op trailer only drift car, do you have special low mileage insurance, rates on these old stangs is crazy, i just wanna know if there's a way around it, as it is a failing point for me
This car is track use only so insurance isn't something I worry about. The most street use it sees is maybe once or twice in the summer I'll go up to the local gas station for a snack but that's it.
Do you have special insurance for it?
@@cryptikss negative
@@Typical_Garage just low mileage insurance? liability only?
Thanks

How will a new edge drift with 4:10 gears ? I was building for the 1/8 mile but I now would like to start learning how drift
I lowered the rear with eibach lowering spring with strange 10am adjustable shocks, stock front struts with Viking 200lb coil over, and I have a built 4r70 automatic, how is drifting an automatic as far as durability to drift I could use as much advice as you are willing to share
I apologize for the late response but that setup doesn't sound like it'll work well. Lowering springs are still typically pretty soft and auto's don't do well in tight transitions. Is still welcome you to go out and give a try just don't set the expectations too high, ya know?
My foxbody has factory 5 lug wheels and discs all the way around too. Also is turbocharged.
SVO?
@@Typical_Garage yessir
I picked up a shitbox 98 gt vert to use as a drift car, havent gotten to really do anything to it yet as other projects are ahead of it , but my main things I hate are the angle, and the 4.6, and the fact its a vert so I have to buy a cage
If it's a 5 speed car, maybe you could source a hardtop and swap over the drivetrain unless you're dead set on having no top
@Typical_Garage not dead set on not having a top, but prices on these damn cars are getting ridiculous and got the opportunity to get it off a buddy for cheap and even pay him here and there until it was paid off, plus it's in a condition that's probably just best used for drifting anyway, but it's a canvas I suppose and it's better than having nothing to work with at all, and it'll probably do ok with a little work, plus I suppose a cage would be cheaper than a whole other car, so I'll work with it, just those are the things I don't like about it is all
I like both
What do you mean?
I keep telling myself that if I total my SR20 swapped S13. I’m getting a SN95.
I think those run 355 stock. 373 really wakes it up on the bottom end.
3:27 from the factory
Mach 1's and the 03-04 Cobra's had 3.55 ratio. Everything else was 3.27
I got to know what front bumper are you rockin?
It's a KBD Cobra unit
would've loved to learn drifting in a stock car unfortunately rwd cars are a premium would've cost me 16 thousand dollars to get the cheapest auto car rwd car, worked cheaper to build a car got a foxbody 302 engine and transmission on a bet (free!!!) the chassis (fathers old project car so also free) is a mitsubishi chariot awd is being converted into a racevan with a turbo 500hp v8 and custom angle kit that hopefully can be finished in 2-3 months🤞🤞
That's a wicked build! Keep me posted on how it goes
@@Typical_Garage will do its has a couple trick features that make it comfortable like dbw, antilag, 2step, adjustable boost and drive modes. Custom wiring for engine harness, chassis harness, custom taillights, custom headlights, full stereo system and a few more stuff that I'm working on
Bro you just made me regret selling my 02 stang and I sold it 10 years ago 😂
What kind of coil overs and angle kit are you running?
Right now I'm on Rev9 coils with a Scotidi angle kit
Cobra r front bumper is sick. My favorite.
A man of fine taste 🤌
@@Typical_Garagequestion cobr r or regular cobra front bumper

I’ve been wanting a mustang since kd made a body kit for these cars
Have you seen the new Japanese tuner inspired kit from kbd??
Im here because I had 1500 for a car and im determined to make that shitbox fun
Why does that tire look flat though????
It was casually chilling ar 3psi 😅
Yes because I am too. 😂
Lovin' it so far?
@Typical_Garage hard to say. I've had zero track time with the car so far. It runs, it drives, I'm broke haha.
@@leftcoastdrifter lmao I couldn't relate to that any more than I already do 🤣
U got a straight up flat tire lol. How did umit not rip the tire off
It was legit at 2psi and I didn't even notice lol
Mustangs ftw!!

You didn’t mention one single time that you have a friend who also has a mustang🤯
If I mentioned everyone I knew that owned a mustang, this video would've been twice as long. lol
Right rear flat…
shhh... It's only flat on the bottom. It'll be ok lol
yo ur tires flat, hahaha 2:37
I hate that these are getting popular bc I REALLY want one and they’re gonna get expensive haha
If it makes you feel any better, the undesirable ones will probably always be cheap. Like the one in this video was a yellow V6 manual car that didn't run when I bought it. Picked it up for $600 3 years ago
there's actual more mustangs than ford made. you can buy EVERYTHING online to build a full mustang at home
Absolutely!
I hate that I can’t slam mine
Especially when renderings look so good!
i think i should build one lel
If you enjoying being stressed out, I highly recommend this platform lmao
oof its LS swapped :|
5.3 V8 > 3.8 V6.... When the time is great I'd like to experiment with a 6.8 V10 or big block 7.5. Just not in the cards for me at this time though
You sound like you play hockey
I've actually never played hockey a day in my life. Lol
