Talking to yourself is actually perfectly normal.
Well, as long as you're not halving entire conversations with people you made up. THAT is what makes it a health concern.
But, talking through a thought process when by yourself is entirely normal. Not everyone does it, but the brain processes thoughts differently when you say them out loud.

If Charisma-training in "The Sims"-games have taught us something, the skill of thinking out loud or "self-talk" is a very important ability/habit, especially when done correctly:
Especially for actors and singers this is very important way to practice / hone their trade.
It's been also researched and concluded that out-loud-self-talk also keeps brains and various other orders more healthy due "obviously" increased amount of body-activity.
The key-factor is to simply find the ideal-medium, like perhaps limit out-loud-thinking in crowded-public.
And in some workplaces where teamwork is imperative, some vocal-thinking can actually make the work much smoother
      ( especially to avoid work-related-accidents ).

The Data overload story had my eye twitching. My last 18 Months before retirement from my PD was spent in an Admin spot. One of the things I had to do at one point, when another Officer was out with an injury, was handle the record requests for Child Services Usually 5-7 per day. Some were 15 minutes to take care of, some were DAYS worth of searching out reports, oh, and NOTHING was digitized, it all had to be sent Via Fax, or Mail. We kept a record of each request, when it was received, the names being searched, who the requesting Social worker was, and when it was sent back, we also had a file with each faxed request sheet, as well as the Fax receipt from when the documents were sent, or the Signed Return Receipt if mailed. This one Social worker requested the same File SEVEN Times. My Chief had to get involved with that one, going to the County Director over it. Another was, an individual was dating a woman who had Applied to be a Foster Parent. He resided with her, so he was part of the background check. In my 24 years on the Dept at that time, I had, PERSONALLY Arrested him well over 15 times. His arrest record went back from when he turned 18, and the actual number of arrests was Impressive, not to mention his umm "Honorable Mention' in other Jobs. At the end, over that 30-odd year period it was around 230 Reports involving this guy, totaling around 700 Pages So, I called the Social Worker, her answer was "I said I need all the report, so I want All the Reports (Oh, and, BTW it was the same one that had "lost" That other report 7 times) , So, I went to My boss, who called HER Boss, and put me on the phone. I explained the Issue, the sheer amount of Material, and the fact that With his Criminal History, there was more than enough in the past YEAR to make a determination regarding his suitability to be Involved with a Foster Parent, He had some...Serious Issues. The Supervisor agreed with me, but wouldn't undercut the Case Worker. So we told her that A:, Fax was NOT an Option, B: we weren't Paying for Postage, so C:, If they wanted these reports so badly, it would take Ten Business days, with an Option for another 5 due to the sheer amount of work involved, and once everything was Pulled, Copied, and Redacted, they would be responsible for coming to Our HQ, and signing for the paperwork, and that NO other copies would be provided. She Balked, we went to the Chief, who went to the Director, On a conference Call, I explained te problem, the amount of time these records encompassed, a quick rundown of the Criminal History, and finally the sheer amount of reports we were talking about, the Majority of which would have to be dug out of physical files by hand, Photocopied, and hand-redacted. While we were on the Conference call, the Director called down to the Supervisor, and the Case Worker, who told him, that we were being unreasonable, and that all they were asking for was a couple of reports. You could hear their butts slamming Shut when he told My Chief, My Lt, and Myself, that he would be in contact with us in an hour with an amended request, since they Didn't know he had already spoken to us, or that we were able to hear them. 15 minutes later we got a fax request for 3 years worth of Records. We had Child services people that were REALLY Great, we also had Child Services people that were Asshats.

4th story: that actually happened on the Titanic hours before the iceberg, funny enough. The ship's radio operators told another ship to shut up about the ice warnings. Titanic got several reports for ice in the area but only one was posted on their board, one was forgotten in an officer's pocket, and the rest were blown off.

I often talk to myself as did my dad when he was alive. If anyone ever questioned why he talked to himself his go to answer was "sometimes you just need an expert's opinion" said with a chuckle and a wink. Now I work in a store that cuts keys, repairs shoes, watch and mobile devices. Often I talk through what I'm doing as I do it to make sure I'm doing it right. Often customers ask if I'm talking to them and I say "no I'm not. I talk to myself as I work because I need an expert's opinion on what I'm doing."

I used to be a contractor at a Cardiology firm. They hired this shabby broad as their Ops director. One of the first things she did was cut patient visits down to 10 minutes from 20 minutes. She was looking to make extra money for the firm. Needless to say, it didn't go well. The patients weren't having it, neither were the doctors, and the nurses and techs were furious. I ended up leaving the firm because I was placed elsewhere, but she didn't last long either. Moral of the story: try to align your business goals to the purpose of the business (patient care), and not just making money. Greed. It makes people do some ugly things.

That drive through lady, so excited to be heard made me so happy. I had a similar experience with food workers trying to give me malicious compliance and my absolutely loving it.
I am frumpy little white American woman and when I ask for spicy food in "ethnic" restaurants I'm usually met with warnings and "are you sure?" Before being given a disappointing bowl of burnt chili peppers. I love my spice. If my sinuses don't break free it's not spicy.
Ideally, I'm sweating, my mouth is watering and tears are coming.. the best comes if when open mouth breathing I feel like I'm breathing fire (if you know, you know).
One day while bee bopping around Europe we stopped at a new foreign-to-that-country restaurant (I was with a small group of friends). I saw a spicy meter with a warning lable on a menu.
    My heart went pitter patter.
I don't remember what dish it was in the spicy section of the menu, some meaty thing with a pool of sauce. A name I couldn't pronounce well in the local language and a bold warning lable saying something about this being a dish native to their country that couldn't be made not spicy.
    I was ready.
When the waitress came I ordered that, waved off the warning and when asked how spicy I wanted it I told her happily "As hot as you're allowed, you literally can not make this too spicy for me"
She departed, in the turn of an hour/ 90 minutes or so everyone at the table had been served except me. With a lot of insistence everyone started eating. The waitress apologized and said the cooks were making it special for me. I encouraged her to let the cooks take their time and excitedly waited.
When she brought out the bowl she was holding it at an awkward distance from herself, squinting.
I smelled the dish and my eyes instantly watered, I was starving and it smelled like heaven.
Was hands down in the top 10 of the spiciest dishes I've ever had outside of my own kitchen. I actually had to use a little of their home made bread to cool the heat and get the flavor back... then realized how good the mix of bread and the dish tasted and proceeded to soak up every bit of evidence on my bowl. My friends were asking if I was still hungry but I explained I knew I wouldn't have this heat again for a long time and I retuned that bowl polished.
It was amazing. Unfortunately a little less hot because the bread mix was so good but between the the seductive bread stealing my fire I was happy dragon.
The waitress looked shocked. I told her it was amazing and no one ever makes it right because I'm a tourist and this was such a great surprise. Please thank the cooks for me. When I asked her what pepper they used to make it spicy without the bitterness she just shook her head and said she didn't know because they made it special.
    I tipped heavy that night.
A year or two later on Reddit I saw a story a waitress had told of this woman ordering a spicy dish and uttering "You can't make it too spicy" The cooks took it as a personal challenge. One apparently disappeared out the back to get something and came back snickering. A few other details in her story makes me wonder if she hadn't been my waitress that night.
If it was I thank her again. It's been 15? years and I still remember the time the cooks got it so right.

    1. Safety, it's highly visible making it easier for people to notice and to avoid hitting it.
    2. Green makes me happy
The client, technically 1/3 property managers, thought that my cast made me look like a child and wanted it changed immediately. I just got back from UCLA for this surgery, the pain catheter is still in my shoulder and you want my caste changed NOW? The security guard story. Something similar happened to one of my x hospital supervisors son. The son worked 1st shift at the hospital and his personal phone rang (which was 100% normal for anyone I worked with.) and it was his bosses boss asking him some mundane questions like "hows it going their" and "can you stay on such and such date a bit late to cover." A nurse saw him on his phone and got him fired for talking on his personal phone. Long story short he left and got a better job before covid hit and I left because 9/10 of the time the nurses would sit on their phones and try to get me to do everything and anything they where suppose to do and if I said I don't do that I would get interrogated by my boss (housekeeper) And I was a trusted and hard working employee but still got interrogated. I work in a grocery store now and my mental health is 1000% better, and can't see myself going back to healthcare after being treated like I was less then even by doctors. If you want to take anything from this then take it like this. even if you work around others that do the lowest of the low for your company respect them. I loved my job but I was treated like i was garbage because I was in a entry level cleaner job. We did so much to keep patients, visitor and even staff safe from illness from spreading. My current job everyone treats the cleaners like crap and i feel so bad for them so I do as much as i can to help them and say hi and talk to them because at the end of the day thats what i would of wanted in their position. I have severe asthma, so hot drinks is a big no go for me, and I often need "COLD" water to help the phlegm from being soft so I can cough a hole into it and actually breathe without it immediately reassembling in my air ways, I drink water that would be considered almost un drink-able by most.
( even went so far to purchase a cold water machine ( one of those you see at companies ) for personal use at home
I've several times asked for cold water due to having run into a smoker earlier, meaning I was hyper ventilating, sweating and just trying to exist, and getting a lukewarm water bottle you just paid 20 euro for is not a great feeling.

Once upon a time our bosses had an OHS meeting and came up with the brilliant idea to speed limit our forklifts to 8kmh . They used to go about 20kmh . Once the governors were all installed the warehouse slowed down to a crawl. There are trucks lined up out of the gate and down the street waiting to be loaded and unloaded. An extra 2 hours of overtime for a team of 20 drivers every day .
We have an emergency meeting .
Why is it taking you guys so long ? It never used to take that long to move the same volume of freight ?
The team of forklift operators just looked at them like they were nuts . Nobody said a word .
The manager is like well ? Can anyone tell me what's taking so long ?
I said fuck it to myself . 🤷
So I politely asked him if anyone in the OHSA meeting had considered that if you reduce our speed by over 50%
That it would reflect negatively on productivity .
We can only go as fast as the machine will go ?
This is why it takes so long .
So you either have to get more forklifts and more staff or simply accept that this is the new normal.
He thanked me for my input and dismissed us to return to work.
3 days later we get to work to find 2 forklift mechanics removing the governors from our forklifts with the biggest smile on their faces . 😄
The OSHA guys that came up with this brilliant idea were there to give a speech about how we had to be careful while driving yada yada blah blah blah to a bunch of guys smiling and snickering muttering we told you so's
We did warn them this is what would happen. 😁😁

To most “normal” people, it comes off as mental issues. And considering how the majority of “normal” people react to mental issues, it’s not a surprise that the client is going to consider it to be weird/disruptive.

Some people take their issue with smoking cigarettes and enjoy making it everyone’s problem. My second ever job when I was younger, I was working retail. Let’s call the place general dollar. The manager that hired me smoked and when gather buggies or taking out cardboard it was okay to smoke. That continued when the manager from that location came off workers comp paid leave and the manager that hired me left. It wasn’t until later on when that manager took an issue with me after following the assistant managers orders, I reported hours I wasn’t paid for helping at the district managers store unloading truck. After that, my manager kept giving me speeches saying I shouldn’t smoke and refused to give me legally required breaks and then as I would smoke on lunch breaks, she took those away also. She also had the other assistant manager follow her on that. Going so far as when I asked to gather carts, getting the go ahead and then they asked, “oh wait, your going to go smoke, aren’t you?” And I’d say yes, so I’d get declined to go gather them and they’d do it themselves. I ended up quitting during a stressful shift when they refused to allow me lunch and my next two days were scheduled off. After those days, I got a call asking if I was coming in, I said no, and she told the company I was fired for no call no show. Which was weird as I had quit. I also went in for my last paycheck and there wasn’t one. So she removed two days I worked off that pay period.

A new boss comes in and "does things by the book" thinking the workforce doing things differently is laziness and inefficiency. The issue with this is "The Book" is either written by academics who have never actually worked that job and don't know what actually needs to be done. Or "The Book's way" worked decades ago with different laws, rules, regulations, machines, technology, materials etc. however now the way things are actually done has been tweaked every now and then to actually be done while "The Book's way" is archaic.

Story about the wrong product code for an urgent report. I have a funny story from the early days of computing:
I was in the Air Force, and we had a database of every airplane which flew in a specified area. This included both military and civilian flights. They would get back a printed report with flight numbers, route, times and such.
To get the report, you needed to supply date, time window, and the coordinates of the rectangle they were interested in - upper left corner and lower right corner.
Smart people already know what went wrong. Some dimwit put the coordinates in backwards! So, the idiot computer did what was asked and tried to print a report of every airplane in the world which flew in the time window EXCEPT the ones which flew inside the rectangle.
The printer center called the originator after they had used up many boxes of paper with no end in sight. I think they blew through a month’s worth of printer expense in less than a day.
    😂

Also on story #3, I wish you wouldn’t do so much summarizing, rSlash! A lot of details were left out that are important for context! Though I do understand why you did it, it was just hard to get the full picture, so I paused to read.

The hubris of that woman (HW) who put the wrong order number on her data request. What was she thinking?
HW: Well, here's this person contacting me within a quarter of an hour after my request was made. It HAS to be just to bother ME. I could never be anything else. It especially could not be because I, of all people, made a mistake on my request. NOPE, that guy must have put aside his other tasks, looked up my contact information took time to call just so he could annoy me. I am that important that people just wish to speak to me that badly.
How does that even make sense?!? Hubris has no logic.

In that last story, the fire pit was an active hazard! Did she want to burn down the property or something?

I don't know it depends on if it was a fuel/gas terminal or if they handled explosive or accelerants like ammonium nitrate or worse anhydrous ammonia like the site in Texas that exploded with enough force to create a mushroom cloud at the site the guard was smoking at if it was outside or not in that situation I could see them being angry and if it wasn't the company phone but his personal phone to family or friends like my brother's ex coworker that would arrive an hour late make coffee for just them take another hour to drink it before going to the desk use the company phone to chat with their family for 2 to 3 hours complain that they had so much work and so little time to do it before leaving an hour early every single day. Boss was too scared to fire her as she seemed litigation happy but then took a job in a different department to get more money for doing nothing. That boss was a legend, less than a month in she asked what she did before working for them and then told it best she contacted them and asked for a job as she wasn't paying for f all
