- On Tuesday, May 14, 2024, Venice Beach saw the deployment of the newly formed Coastal Care+ task force, as they conducted a major cleanup of homeless encampments along Main Street. This concerted effort involved multiple agencies including the LAPD, the Los Angeles Department of Public Works, Clean Harbors Environmental Inc., the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA), and the office of Councilwoman Traci Parks' Homelessness and Housing Coordinator.
Under the watchful supervision of the LAPD, the operation was executed smoothly and securely. Team members equipped with protective gear carefully managed the segregation and disposal of both hazardous and non-hazardous materials, ensuring a thorough cleanup. Assistance from Public Works and Clean Harbors was instrumental in handling the diverse types of waste encountered.
Adding a humane element to the cleanup, LAHSA provided essential support services, distributing food, water, and hygiene kits to those displaced by the cleanup activities. This initiative is part of the city's ongoing strategy to not only address the challenges of homelessness but also to enhance public health and safety standards across community spaces.

The tide turned when the democrats in the city government changed the overnight camping and how much they can carry laws to favor the homeless, and tying the hands of LAPD, so the Sheriffs came in to clean up the Boardwalk. The check and balance written in the State's Constitution worked since the sheriffs are elected by the people to enforce laws and don't follow the orders of current politicians in power. So, as a local, I am grateful for the sheriff's deputies for starting this trend.
