Efforts Intensify to Clear Homeless Encampments at Venice Beach with Coastal Care+ Initiative

- On Tuesday, May 14, 2024, Venice Beach saw the deployment of the newly formed Coastal Care+ task force, as they conducted a major cleanup of homeless encampments along Speedway Avenue. This concerted effort involved multiple agencies including the LAPD, the Los Angeles Department of Public Works, Clean Harbors Environmental Inc., the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA), and the office of Councilwoman Traci Parks' Homelessness and Housing Coordinator.
Under the watchful supervision of the LAPD, the operation was executed smoothly and securely. Team members equipped with protective gear carefully managed the segregation and disposal of both hazardous and non-hazardous materials, ensuring a thorough cleanup. Assistance from Public Works and Clean Harbors was instrumental in handling the diverse types of waste encountered.
Adding a humane element to the cleanup, LAHSA provided essential support services, distributing food, water, and hygiene kits to those displaced by the cleanup activities. This initiative is part of the city's ongoing strategy to not only address the challenges of homelessness but also to enhance public health and safety standards across community spaces.

I hope the police officers, park rangers and cleaning crew are redeployed to other duties and locations after spending months in these depressing and upsetting duties. It must be soul destroying for them to meet repeat persons, locations and the apparent futility of the whole exercise. Respect to LAPD and the other bodies involved for running this cleanup program.
I can almost guarantee the lapd officers are there on days off pulling overtime. When I was a highway patrol explorer 5000000 billion years ago the CHP officers would love these details… they get to chill and get paid that overtime pay.. when you’re driving and see construction on the freeway and that one lone chp cruiser hanging out that officer is raking it in 😂

The cost of living is so high. Even if the homeless got a full time job it would barley be enough.
Anyways homeless people have a philosophy on life. It's pretty much "freedom". They don't like this system. So they choose to not play the game. I don't necessarily think being homeless is the best option I feel you could be creative and work a few side gigs doing something you hopefully enjoy. Living in a bedroom and renting out the rest of the house. There's plenty of creative ideas to work less and figure out a way to not be homeless.
But everyone does things differently. Some people have more knowledge and gumption than others.
The homeless that do the most damage are the mentally ill ones. The type of homeless that belong in the looney bin

Yeah. Something not adding up. Why would you work for 11 and hour if you didn’t have to especially with unemployment at 3%? No one chooses to live in a run down motel unless their credit is shot and can’t qualify for an apartment or they have no money to afford an apartment or there is some sketchy stuff in your background that landlords and employers don’t want to deal with. If you’re on Social services then you’re not paying for the hotel and it’s supplemented by social services and you are getting to live there for free while you’re looking for an apartment or new place that social services sets you up with.
