This was the the best of times, I was a child but I remember this commercial fondly because it was during the best time of my life. Life was simple, people seemed happier, men we’re still men & vice versa and people didn’t hate each other for the smallest things. How i wish I could get stuck in a 80’s time loop…

This was the season NBC hit number one in the ratings, knocking CBS to second place and pushing ABC to third. This season saw the debuts of Growing Pains and Perfect Strangers as well as the end of Benson, The Fall Guy, and Love Boat.
Fortunately, ABC had some hits on the network already with Who's the Boss, Hardcastle and McCormick, Mr. Belvedere, Webster, and Dynasty.
By 1987/8 ABC managed to climb to second place with the help of The Wonder Years, thirtysomething, and Roseanne.

Now, let's be honest. Given the content that it produced, The Capital Cities era was probably the most prosperous for ABC. Disney wouldn't have allowed most of that stuff after it took over, let alone now.

The three network pecking order back in the 80's:
NBC - The best scripted comedies and dramas. Number one amongst the coveted urban/suburban 18-35 year olds. Hippest and hottest (until Fox came along).
CBS - A bit stodgy, slightly more rural focused, but still pretty strong. The traditionalist's choice for TV News.
ABC - Kinda corny. More family friendly and kid oriented. Best, most innovative news division.
