I’ve heard Ernie Anderson’s voice on ABC for years, even when I was a young boy. Years and years later, I saw the face behind the iconic voice here on CZcams. He was one of television’s ‘golden throats.’
@@joshuawilliams7351 Smoking does attribute to a deep voice, in some cases. Ernie Anderson was no different. I just read in Wikipedia that he died of lung cancer in 1997, due to a life of smoking. So, yes.
On the early episodes of THE CAROL BURNETT SHOW, which are rerun on MeTV now mixed in with the newer CAROL BURNETT & FRIENDS reruns, Carol would often introduce Ernie from the audience, and Ernie would stand up a bit & wave in acknowledgement. Later he took over for Lyle Waggoner as announcer after Lyle left the show.

He'll always be the voice of ABC. What a great iconic voice.
That's what I said!! He's the voice of ABC. What a beautiful voice!!!
One of the architects of my childhood.
He is one of the all-time great voices! I wish he could still be with us doing those promos!
Pretty magnificent to learn about this guy!
I miss this era of TV. Many of of us grew up hearing Ernie. Love these posts
Damn didn’t realize what a baller PTA was. Can’t believe that kid shooting hoops with the old man created Dirk Diggler and There Will Be Blood!
1 Of The Greatest Voice Actors Of The 20th Century, He'll Be Missed! Thank You For The Memories!
3:12 - I'm not sure, but the boy playing B-ball with the ol' man could possibly be Paul Thomas Anderson, future famous movie director.
It's almost certainly PTA.
2:16 - and there's the inspiration for Dirk's mom in Boogie Nights (Joanna Gleason said as much)
Ball Thomas Anderson!
Great clip. There is not a lot of video of Ernie at work. He was unsurpassed!

Do you think Camel or Marlboro was responsible for that, and his death to cancer?

3:11 - Paul Thomas Anderson playing some basketball around his father Ghoulardi, I mean Ernie.
Paul Thomas Anderson's father, I would never guess.
I remember when Boogie Nights came out... I recall that fact coming up a lot.
Like the group Wilson Phillips... yeah, we know who your folks are
0:25 I wouldn’t have had the nerve to walk behind Ernie and start giving my spiel while he was working.
Anderson also lent his voice to news opens and promos for ABC's affiliates. I wonder if he's done any for WJZ.
He did for 13 for their local and syndicated shows in the early eighties. (Including “HOUR MAGAZINE”)

Every man needs a wife like Edwina to check our egos.
Ghoulardi!!
Yep 👍🏻!
Ironically, Ghoulardi would be succeeded by G.I. Joe's Flint as the primary voice of ABC!!!
3:05 - Listen how Ernie Anderson could be compared to Danny Dark!
Or even Chuck Riley and Don LaFontaine!!!
Do we have an approx recording/air date for this gem?
Yes. Air date June 7, 1985. Thanks for watching!
