Eddie Howe: What I've Changed At Newcastle United
VloĆŸit
- Äas pĆidĂĄn 6. 11. 2022
- We're delighted to be joined by Newcastle United Manager Eddie Howe đ
What do you think of the conversation? Let us know in the comments! đ
We really hope you enjoy this episode and get as much value as we did đ
Eddie Howe is a professional football manager and former player; he is the former manager of Bournemouth FC and currently the head coach of Newcastle United.
Obsession is a key theme in this episode - should it be strived for or is it always damaging?
Jake and Damian explore Eddieâs management style as he explains that he leads with a philosophy of focusing deeply on the individual.
Eddie shares how although he is deeply understanding of his players, he does not treat himself with the same empathy.
Having high personal standards, and being kinder towards others than to yourself, is something we commonly hear from high performers.
When watching, ask yourself:
If you make a mistake, do you talk to yourself the way youâd speak to someone else? Think about why you use different language to talk to others.
Make a deliberate point of stopping when you are being unkind to yourself. Reflect on if you would talk to others in the same way and then revisit the conversation with yourself. How often do you do this in a week?
We hope you enjoy this episode and let us know your thoughts in the comments đ

We miss him so much but so so glad heâs showing everyone on a bigger stage what a fantastic manager he is, hardworking, detail orientated, obsessive, caring and driven to be better always. Thatâs what we had at Bournemouth, heâs now an even better version of that and the recent results, togetherness and ultimately the table position just shows with NUFC đ

My first ever live match was watching Bournemouth v Walsall in the mid 90's when Eddie played. Would have been crazy to think he'd end up managing the club I support, but so glad that's the case. He comes across as a very humble, reflective and introspective guy, but one who will work as hard as possible to improve his players and therefore the team. Over the moon we have him.
Watched Minus17 earlier and you can instantly see from that he has a unique internal wisdom and inspiration to get the best out of a situation. It all makes sense, from how he navigated our flirtation with relegation (I.e. by signing characters like Trippier and Burn) to other acquisitions, off-the-field morale boosting activities etc. I really hope heâa the foundation on which our club develops for many a decade to come, much like Man United with Alex Ferguson.

@@thomasarthur8439 It's a really interesting documentary on CZcams about the season where Bournemouth started in League 2 on -17 points. Howe came in as manager after 2 previous managers and steadied the ship with some inspired decisions.
Eddie is the manager we've been screaming for since Sir Bobby Robson. So happy and proud that he's our manager đ€đ€
Yup, so much confidence in him even if we loose 6 on the trot. I wouldnât want any other manager. He almost makes the klopps peps and contes look like iconic children đ Not sure if thatâs a compliment. I love the league, just proud of our manager.

@@robertdore9592 There will always be excuses. Just not good ones. Luckily unlike Steve Bruce Eddie Howe does not need them.

I have not missed a single press conference of this man having not watched any in my more than 20 years supporting NUFC. Articulate, intelligent and always speak with great openness. He just comes across as such a role model of how a good human being should present himself.
Apart from those bank notes covered in oil and blood he keeps in his wallet of course

The 3 lions can take a run and jump he's not going anywhere he's staying until the day he retires
Poisoned chalice. Any successful club manger must be insane to take on v staying put
When Eddie Howe retires from management I really hope he writes a book on everything he's learnt and his journeys. I have so much respect for this man, what a wealth of knowledge he has
What a great bloke. Couldnât be prouder that heâs manager of our club. The job Eddie has done is truly remarkable. Heâs saved us and got us all believing again, heâs the manager weâve deserved for so long. Heâs up there with Keegan and Sir Bobby. He totally get us, he stands for everything we want, hard work, dedication and a team to be proud of.
Win lose or draw, this man has the backing of every Newcastle fan! I remember watching Bournemouth fans describe how lucky we were to get him. They were right! Cracking watch!
I think it speaks volumes when a former team whoâs manager got them relegated still want him as their manager
Iâm starting to have the same thoughts of fearing him leaving

One of the best podcasts I've ever seen. Well done and thanks.. Eddie Howe will become a legendary manager.
An excellent tactician and superb man manager, I'm delighted that this man is the gaffer of Newcastle United.
As a toon fan I keep realising how lucky we are he came to Newcastle when he did nobody could of turned it around like he did thankfully nobody else came in for him massively appreciate him cheers Eddie keemon
I could listen to him talk all day. What a first class example of professionalism and the way heâs turned a sad ending at Bournemouth to whatâs hopefully going to be a huge success story at Newcastle is humbling to hear.
One of the things that stands out most to me is how connected he feels with those asking him questions every week. Heâs mentioned on more than a few occasions that even the media teams at Newcastle are part of the club and the huge pushes forward weâre making.
Heâs not just a phenomenal coach and a great tactician, heâs a manager of personalities in the mould of Sir Bobby and the dedication to the job, the responsibilities he takes on and his attitude towards everyone connected with the team and the club is exemplary.
Every week when heâs asked about some amazing individual performances, after giving well deserved praise to those in question, he talks about everyone else. No one is left out. Constantly reminding the boys that stand out players couldnât be who they are or do the things they do without being surrounded by the support of fantastic teammates.
Weâve waited so long to have a man like him at the helm â«ïžâȘïžâ«ïž
His success in the eys of the fans isn't due to the results on match day but the effort made on the other 6 days of the week.
We never expected a team that wins just one that tries, we are working class people, who work hard just to get to the stadium and we appreciate above all else, our effort in attending being matched by those wearing our shirt. Eddie seems to be embody that belief and it has reunited Newcastle
Eddie Howe what can you say about this man that hasnât already been said. Supported the Toon for 30 years in that time weâve only ever had king kev and sir Bobby that have been loved by the hole fan base. But this man right here is something very very special and I truly hope heâs at our club for the next 20 years and I also hope that he can feel how much all us fans have fell in love with his way of management and the way he conducts himself. Thank you Eddie for everything you have done youâve brought our club back from the brink to what it should be all United and together again. Wouldnât swap you for Pep Guardiola in a million years. I honestly believe Eddie will lift the PL Title with Newcastle.
What he's done in 12 months is mind boggling.
Every player has improved, some beyond recognition.
Best signing the new owners have made.
Such a humble and nice guy too
He probably will and hope he does, but as long as he loses to Bournemouth and does not deprive them of it!

Boy I hope so man . I canât see why not like heâs a truly great modern day football manager
He has brought the heart back to my club. The fact that he is a genuinely lovely person and has a lovely team around him and that he is filling our team with equally genuinely lovely players ,involving their familes and making them feel confident and proud to be a part of Newcastle United is just incredible to watch, its spreading amazing vibes around the city, we are smiling again after our club was rotting in the hands of him who won't be named. The Glory days are coming back, we've only ever wanted people here who want to try and work hard and right now, I can feel the heart of this city booming every day, Eddie has so much to do with that. He is going to become as adored as Sir Bobby and Kevin, he is almost there, We love him already!!!!
Purely money that has brought "the heart" back to your club. You'll lose interest in Howe in 2 seasons when you haven't won anything and spent more than everyone else.
@@Tes_1 Don't be bitter.
@@nathanhill3 you're right. I'm probably only 10% bitter but 100% jealous.
@@Tes_1 There's a lot of nonsense being said about Newcastle and even more double standards. For me, we're massively over achieving at the minute. I'll still be happy with 8th this season.
I can understand the envy from other teams fans but I think we are doing things the right way rather than simply throwing money at the project.
@@Tes_1 All I can say to that is Kevin Keegan. We won nothing but he is a legend and always will be. He brought us great football but more than that he gave us hope and enjoyment in the actual game. That challenge of fighting every game no matter who the opposition were. Winning something would be amazing but most importantly it's about seeing your team going out and giving everything and playing with belief that they can not just salvage a point but actually win against the best.

Fascinating discussion. Eddie is an impressive individual. Iâm not a Newcastle fan but Iâve always liked them as a club. From very first watching them at StJamesâs Park as a kid beat my team, Arsenal, after going a goal down and feeling the good natured passion of the supporters, I have nothing but respect for the club. The supporters have more than served their time and deserve some success now so I wish them and Eddie Howe well in all but two games next season !

His lass and bairns never thought that when he was having an affair with that young tart when he was at Burnley.
As a Spurs fan, I see in this managerial appointment the destiny the Geordies have dreamt about for years becoming a reality. This guy is so obviously top drawer it is a deep fall in quality to listen to pundits talking about the game. After the years of pain at St James, Newcastle deserves Eddie Howe and Eddie Howe deserves Newcastle. You guys have such good times in front of you because it seems to me you will get honesty, you will get style and you will get loyalty. Eddie howe embraced Newcastle when we were at our lowest, achieved something no other manager has done in survival when not winning in the first 14 games, because of that us Newcastle supporters wont ever forget that no matter what happens in the future. All we ask is he makes each day his masterpiece and in return no fans anywhere will support him, cheer him and shout his name louder than us. If he were to read this comment I would ask him to pay little attention to what the media says we expect, they have always said we are too demanding when in reality all we ask is for a team that tries to win, we have never demanded a club that does. I always wanted Eddie at Newcastle. Always been impressed with him. His teams have always played good attacking football and love how he represents himself and his club in the media and beyond. Looking forward to a great future at our club with Eddie at the helm #eddie Howeâs black and white army
I don't know if I am starting something here, but think we will win the Euros and probably the world Cup if we give Eddie the England Job with this current squad that we have.
What a manager...
So proud to have him as our manager đ€đ€
You can see why Newcastle are doing so well - a very impressive person
Such a brilliant guy. I hope that when the difficult runs come (which they will, we won't keep endlessly winning forever đ€Ł) we all get behind and stick with him. He cares, he's got man management nailed down and he's very strong tactically. I really hope 5 years from now he's still our manager because with time and investment I really believe he can take us to the very top.
I think when we do lose the game will be close - I think gone are the days where we get trounced 3 or 4-0
I can appreciate a good game of football if weâve given a good account of ourselves
This is the Messiah of the Toon! I love his good soul sermons!
Astute manager. A gentleman. A legend in the making. NUFC got a man who is elite. Thank you for giving us back our club. Sir Eddie one day, Premier League, Champions League, England manager and world cup winner.
So many wrote him off when he first appointed as Newcastle manager. Now Newcastle are flying under him, I'd say 2 years ahead of time. Respect to him. Underrated manager. Great podcast btw. Mikel Arteta up next on the pod
What a man. I was overjoyed when he got our job. I hope heâs here for a very long time through thick & thin. Who could not be inspired listening to him talk.
only if he is winning
Massive respect for this man, wish him and Newcastle all the best LCFC fan
Eddie Howe is class. Newcastle is super lucky to have this world class football manager.
I am a big fan of this coach and fell in love of Bournemouth because of him. I have always been a fan of Newcastle and now I have one more reason to be a fan.
Loved this! Eddie is a top coach and his year out for self development, visiting other sports teams and organising his reference points, shows a developing coach/manager that wants the best for the people around him đđ
