Hi Stephen. Great interview, a true gent. On a personal note - Frank actually had a massive impact on my life. I was undergoing major surgeries at 27 years old to repair a ruptured achilles which suffered several setbacks and further surgeries. Unbeknownst to me, my dear Mother wrote to Chelsea whilst I was in hospital for my 4th surgery in 5 months. I received a letter in the post that same month, and a signed photograph from Frank himself, wishing me well and telling me to keep strong. It was just before Chelsea faced City in the league, during Frank's first tenure as the manager. I had almost given up on the thought of walking normally ever again, letalone playing football. But that letter really inspired me to try my best and to never give in. Proud to say I am walking (almost) normally and have managed to partake in some 6 a side walking foltball. That letter and photograph I have framed on my wall. Thank you Frank, and all the best in all you choose to do.

I was touched by Frank's description of the immensity of the loss of his mother. I'm a guy, and I lost my mum when I was 24 (and she also was a hairdresser). There's nothing like a man's loss of his mother, and it's indescribable, really. But Frank conveyed the depth and complexity of it as best as anybody could.

Not a Chelsea fan but i do remember him being decent enough to guide them to the top 4 in PL when the club was in crisis he may not have been a great manager but has always loved Chelsea from the bottom of his heart I do hope he does well in whatever he wants to be!

Thank you Steven what you do is really important, I have been watching you since I left working at Lovehoney during lockdown I got run over By a bouncer in a Night club in Bath and then worked at Lovehoney for 3 years. I was Disabled and lost full use of my left arm all because I was dancing with girls and I got picked out of the crowd and ran over behind the club. (I am Dyslexic) I have had major mental health and physical and mental trauma to get over. I'm 30 now and Just finish a year doing Environmental Science in Bristol college to get me to Uni. Higher education course whilst dealing and having to put my dear father through detox, however after 12 years out of education, I have achieved my grades to go to uni. After being an events manager for 5-6 years prior.(Before covid) I have sacrificed myself for everything I have cared about. You may or might not have heard of Roots allotments in Bristol and Bath but during my time working night shifts and day shifts before starting my environmental science qualification I worked and built the 1.0 ground zero site. After applying this work ethic I am now hoping I get my grade that I am sure I will... As I got a distinction in my extended project and my essay on sustainable futures my degree in Bath in Global Development and sustainability may hear more about it. I wish you all the best and thank you to all of us that need that extra push. Gentlemen may not always finish first to start with but may finish when all is done. I am from an Irish and Welsh heritage and your journey is inspiring. I hope to change the world of those that are less off than myself at this stage even and bridge the gap for societies through innovation strategy culture and understanding. One day we will shake hands.

What an amazing interview. You have such great skill of humanising legendary beings that have walked amongst us. Frank’s work ethic in English football is unparalleled. He became one of the greatest simple because of his work ethic. Not much talent but relentless work. A true Chelsea Legend. He so described it really well. Losing a mother who is very close to you is such a revealing of emotional nakedness. A feeling that stays with you till your last. Love that you never felt before just cease to exist.

I lost my mum at 37 and the bottom fell out of my world. I cant imagine the weight of expectation of being a high profile sports star and trying to deal with grief at the same time. He seems such a genuine human.
The raw emotion visible on Franks face when talking about his mother passing away. At last, someone that relates. This episode really hit home, especially this part. I lost my mother suddenly over 1.5 years ago at the age of 31 and can relate to everything frank went through. The auto pilot, the relentlessness afterwards but that aspect of a part of you leaving. Thank you to Frank for speaking so openly about this as only other people that have lost someone so close to them can truly understand how it feels. And it’s true, this grief right here, never leaves you. But you learn to live with it.

I lost my mum 3 years ago, I was 37 and she was 61 and I can totally relate to what Frank was saying. Brought a tear to my eye as it brought back feelings and emotions and the things you want to forget. I know exactly what he means by zombie and that a part of you will never be the same. Massive respect for Frank. He never hides and more importantly, he stands up in the tough times. Both his stints as manager were much needed and chelsea was an absolute mess. Good luck for the future champ.
Lamps would be a great coach at Brighton, Newcastle, Dortmond, and Monaco. He needs teams that have youth and players that are willing to fight for the team.
I even think he would do well with the current players at Chelsea.

The way he spoke about his mom just touched me so much. It is really powerful part of the chatter. He showed how strong and peacefull he is. He overcame it and took it like a true hero. I am taking my hat off before Frank😢
As a long time Liverpool fan Frank is probably the player I respected most outside of Liverpool and that has just quadrupled, what a legend 👍
Already clicked like before I even started to watch - Steven getting an absolute Chelsea legend on the show makes my day. Pity it didn't quite work out as a manager for Frank, but will always be among the club greats from a player perspective - also one of the nicest guys in football, was lucky enough to meet him to sign my Chelsea shirt in South Africa during the 2010 world cup just before England played Algeria in Cape Town.

Chelsea legend? Son he's a footballing legend. Him Scholes and Gerrard are up there with the likes of Ronaldino, Shearer, Bobby Moore, R9 etc.
it's not too late, it can work out, the likes of Moyes didn't start high, most managers don't they earned their spurs through sweat and pain of defeat and some highs. He has been lucky to have had big opportunities that unfortunately didn't work out, he can head to the championship and rebuild from there, League one if need be, build a team in his image, learn to defend like Eddie Howe went to do, and in no time he'll be on the up again. He has contacts with Chelsea and city so he can get players on loan. It'll take some humbling and humility but if he wants to make it he has to restart. Gerrard should've probably done the same instead of going to Saudi but who knows, it may end up working. It'll be good to see the two of them compete as managers in the prem in the future

I could relate to the point where Frank said he'd often be struck with grief when people around would often talk about their mothers. I'm no footballer or a genius of any sort but I did lose my mom when I was 14. I'm 29 now and I still grapple with the grief of losing her everyday.
Thanks for sharing that, Frank. It was quite emotional. Also, I'm a Manchester United fan but massive respect from all the rival fans as well.

Hmmmm I felt he did us a bit dirty here. I'm not a full on Everton da but he was talking about the expectation being that we only win 35-40% of our games. He's part of the reason that expectation has permeated when it should be much higher, which it was even in our recent past.
As an Evertonian, I absolutely love the man and all he tried to do for the club. He bought in, went balls deep into what the club is about and gave us an identity for a brief period. Club is toxic - rotten to the core - for the last few years, and it was a serious task he took on. Nothing but love from this Everton fan, anyway.
He wasn't but he could be a great manager, no doubt, we had a glimpse of it when hazard left & frank only manage a squad from the academy & manage to finish top 4 to qualify to CL start with frank & ended up winning the CL under tuchel, with an attacking attitude team, that scares even prime klopp liverpool at the time, frank need to manage an underdog team first before manage big clubs, big clubs pressure is high & a lot of interference from the board & big headed players.

@@leonleon2276 Well aware he was out of his depth completely. Basically, I loved what he stood for and what he tried to do at the club. I had some of the best times of my life at the end of the 21/22 season - even though we were absolute dirt - because of the connection he forged with the fans. 100% we'd have been down had those scrotes on the board kept him on last season, absolutely, but what I was trying to say was, I never wanted a manager - or anyone, really - to do well for us more than I did Lampard. I know a lot of fans who feel the same way and won't speak ill of him. When Periera was being mooted to replace that Benitez lad, we all kicked off and wanted Lampard.
It’s weird to see that our idols are just as human as us. Sometimes we forget they are people and go through the same feeling and pain as all the rest of us. Lamps speaking about his mother just made me realise that I went through the same emotions when my mother died. My mom was only 41 younger than Frank is now. Cherish your loved ones as you never know how long you have with them. Everything else is secondary.

As a Chelsea fan since childhood, Frank is my absolute hero, it truly pained me everytime he wouldn’t get the results he wanted as a manager. But I hope he knows he is forever engraved as a legend of the game and that he took some of the most difficult jobs in football solely because of his sense of duty and responsibility. Much respect and admiration from me and most importantly, thank you DOAC, for conducting this interview, you’ve earned yourselves a new subscriber.
One of the best of all time for me, I feel he’s underrated when I see debates on him compared to others, maybe because he doesn’t play for Man Utd or Liverpool. If a midfielder scores 20 goals in 1 season it would grab an incredible amount of attention and praise. I think since Lampard consistently did it for 10 seasons, people were desensitised to it and expected it. A Ronaldinho away from a ballon d'orm for a reason and a class act off the pitch. Highest respect for this legend

When you lose someone you love it's a huge heartache. Doesn't matter if you are a rich footballer we are all human. This reminded me of how I felt when I lost my father. Going to work was just so difficult and the grief is real.
An amazing player and human being. Just not cut out to be a manager and that’s ok. Nothing will change our love for him for what he did for Chelsea.

I remember when Lamps lost his mum and played Liverpool in the champions league soon after. Lots of respect for him at the time as a Liverpool fan, it must been hard for him and he played a great game too!
Everton fan here. Nothing but love and respect for this man. He's class. Desperately wanted him to succeed not just for our club but for his namesake. He came into our club and became a true, bleed-blue coach and fan. I know he wasn't the best manager by any means, but you can feel his love for the club and frustration behind each loss or short-coming. Sincerely wish him nothing but the best in all his future endeavors. I will always be a fan.
Interviews like this are so important, we never get to know our hero's enough and these personal interviews give us so much insight and so much understanding into why players were a certain way during particular periods of their lives. I feel like I understand Frank so much more now and this happens with current Chelsea players too where we get their personal interviews and we remember that they are humans too.

There are very few moment in football that I literally cried. The most I can remember when Frank scored the penalty in 2nd leg UCL against Liverpool and he tribute the goal for his mother that just passed away recently at that time.
I lost my mom too 2 years ago and this really hit me again. It’s never easy losing the person you look up the most in your family. I feel ya Frank :(

When I listen to Frank talk about his mom I am so moved. He is truly genuine and heartfelt. I am here now, suffering unthinkable pain from a medical surgery. I can’t do much. Can’t move well and don’t have much energy. And my mom is here for everything. I know how lucky I am and what it means to me.
We have all lost important people to us but this week has made me realize how much we neee to cherish what’s here, now. I am so grateful to have her. And I relate so much to franks emotions and pain in that time.

this is bound to be one of my all time favorite episodes - I remember being such a fan of his in my team following his playing career, and everything else sadly - it was a golden era but also a sad era at that time

in tears listening to the part about franks Mum, I lost my mum in my thirties in a similar way and the way he explains it is spot on, it never goes away, its always a struggle
Same here, but it feels really nice listening to him talk about it. It's tiring trying to run away from the fact she's no longer there every single day. It's easier to go through the pain again in your mind here and there. I wish you the best, my friend. Lets hope thats the worst life has thrown at us.
Very honest interview , Hard questions answered from the heart , a proper young boy who experienced horrible abuse at the hammers. Worked hard at his game, a dad who is a legend at west ham, worked bloody hard, experienced a great education!

Was a fantastic interview and wanted to comment but wasn't really sure what to say. Love Frank, being a Chelsea fan for the last 40 years, and really appreciate how open and humble he is. But the biggest compliment I can give came about when he spoke about his daughters at the end. Frank if my kids grow up to be anything like you and the way you conduct yourself I will be the proudest dad in the world. Good luck in the future and hope you have the managerial career you deserve. And with any luck my kids will be taking me to the Bridge in the future when you're our manager again. 💙
One of the best players of his generation, he was constantly battling it out for domestic and international trophies throughout his career and he deserves a lot of respect. I'm not a Chelsea fan, but I've always liked Frank for his attitude and determination on the field, not to mention his goal scoring ability, which, for a midfield player was second to none.
To then hear from him about his early years, his struggles, basically what made him into the man he is today was interesting and educating. There's always this unknown about football players, that us football fans don't really get to see, the hidden struggles, that we can't see on a Saturday or Sunday...

Regardless of being a great footballer and coach, Lampard is a world class human being. His mother’s death story was touching and was real help for me, and many I’m sure, who have to deal with grief.
Great interview. It was good to get that insight of what was going on at Chelsea. For a club to be successful at the highest level it has to function from top to bottom. Lampard will always be a legend at Chelsea.
As someone who stumbled across your channel for the first time randomly, certainly helped by the fact that your guest is an absolute legend, it was not only such an incredible experience to see such a personal side of Frank, but your direction of the conversations was very intelligent and thoroughly entertaining.

Had the pleasure of meeting my idol frank the day after we won the champions league in 2021 at the goat in chelsea. Me any my friend were only going down fulham road for celebrations (their were none) we took the wrong turn and ended up seeing him across the road at the goat in chelsea. Couldn’t believe it. They say don’t meet your idols, boy could they be more wrong! Thanks Super Frank - incredible episode, could listen to this man speak for hours!

Franks explanation of his mom passing hits hard since I recently lost my mom. It's a feeling i wouldn't wish on any of you, but it has to happen unfortunately.. Whats worse is my mom passed away Christmas Day last year. I was horrified and I'm still suffering to this day, but i believe I'll see her again. Actually, I know I will. Stay strong everyone and god bless you.

I became a fan of Super Frank when he played for Chelsea, and my best memories as a Chelsea fan was that season when he came in as a manager and gave us so much youth talent. His work rate and determination has been an influence to me beyond just football. His lessons are great for anyone to take in how they approach business, and careers.
The first season we had Lamps as our manager is probably the closest I have felt to the club in the last 10 years. It was a truely special feeling, and I got really sad when we got rid of him, even though it was the right thing to do.
@@odikostarr we were struggling, but we were together. There was pride because of the amount of youngsters breaking through.

What an interview! Frank is a legend for opening up on his mental health during such a tough time.
I know Frank wont see this but I just want to thank him for being someone to admire when I was a kid growing up through that wonderful time at the club, I never really understood why an agreement was made to keep you for another couple of seasons i thought for everything you gave to the club you deserved have the chance to finish out your playing career there. You came back twice when the club wanted you both under very difficult circumstances and it would have been easier to say no especially after tye first season at Derby but you came to our rescue twice. Your the ideal role model for young players good ethics not only on the pitch but off it too. Always be a true blue and I hope you get your chance at a club that will give you the time to prove what we can see is there especially from his first run in the chelsea job but just needs time to prefect it.

As a Liverpool fan of 50 years this interview is one of the very best I have watched, he was a great great player and to be honest I think management wise he left derby county to early but a very open and honest man , good luck frank . One question I would have if I could ask him is that press interview with Harry and frank say their on about the fans thinking he wasn’t good enough, what I would ask him if I could is frank did that one presser motivate you to be the great player you became ?
