- Morrissey is in trouble again after cancelling his show mid-set because he felt "too cold". Is this unforgivable? Or is it his right to refuse to play in conditions that don't suit his needs? Tell me where you stand in the comments.

Many years ago, Prince played the halftime show at the Super Bowl. Rain was coming down in sheets, and he and his guitar were getting soaked through. But, with his eyes closed, he sang as if the outside world did not exist. That's taking art to the next level.

He had throat cancer a few years ago. Any tour is going to be rough on his vocals. I saw him in October at Brixton and his voice was fantastic. I really hope he's OK .I think a tour of this length at his age and health problems is a huge risk.
this! i just saw him a few days ago on this tour and he sounded amazing, and was so gracious and humble on stage. i'd rather he err on the safe side so he can keep touring for years to come. plus, if you're a moz fan, you know that cancellatioms are a possibility - it is what it is! he's gifted us much as an artist, i love him regardless

His voice is better than ever due I'm sure his efforts to take care of it. There was talk of barretts esophagus something or other some time ago.
In September, Billy Idol came to my country and I went to see him in concert. In the middle, the show had to be stopped, because some punks started clashing with police at the entrance and Billy had started coughing because of the tear gas.
Needless to say, we were all very afraid that the show would be canceled, but not only did Billy come back and give one hell of a show, but he decided to dedicate "One Hundred Punks" to the kids outside, a truly class act. lml
When I had a heart attack I also felt cold before/during when it was happening. I understand the show must go on but you also need to listen to your body. It’s not worth dying.
But Morrissey did not do this for health reasons. Morrissey has a history of cutting performances short due to minor issues he has with a venue. This incident is not an isolated incident.
The trick is to ignore Morrissey. The more you ignore him the closer he gets.

I heard from a friend on his road crew that he did indeed have a bug of some sort. Cold or Flu? Had today off to rest. He had the chills onstage. Took a break to see what was going on and had a fever so they stopped the gig. Also heard from the same person that they will refund tickets. So guess we will see.
Can't help being ill, but people would understand that. Communication breakdown maybe?

Old man from Manchester here. The thing to understand about Morrissey is, he was always like this even as a teenager. It’s not an affectation. It’s how he’s made and his best music wouldn’t have happened without it. Lots of people can make great music and not be dicks, but Stephen is just built like this. He would have been exactly the same without success.
I just saw Morrissey on November 14, 2022 and his set was gorgeous and perfect. I sat next to a man that had been at that same show where Morrissey left after 9 songs, but the guy said you could tell Morrissey’a voice cracked a bit and HE’D heard that was the problem, that it was his throat having issues with the cold outdoors.🤷♂️
I’d be concerned about Morrissey’s well being if he DIDN’T walk off when he was uncomfortable. This. Is. MORRISSEY!

I've had tickets to 4 Morrissey shows. He played exactly zero of those shows. Never again.
I gave up after he didn't show up for a Smiths show in NYC in 1987. Granted, it was because the band broke up, but I never forgave him.

I've had tickets to 3 Morrissey shows. He played all of them. Brilliantly. Can you explain why after the 2nd or 3rd non-appearance you still continued to buy tickets? Why wait until the 4th? What you said didn't happen, did it?
I was fortunate enough to see a Morrissey show where he showed up and played the whole show. Even an encore.

Well I hope his fans see this and his ticket sales decline. Personally I would never attend another show after this move.
Luke Combs suffered vocal issues recently - Although he played most of his set he refunded every ticket and provided entry to a future date! Legend!
I'll never forget a gig I did years ago with the band. We played a local outdoor festival and it was freezing. You know on some winter days where your hands are so cold and you need to write but can't, it was like that but x5 or more. I'd never played outdoors before and I wasn't prepared. Every strum of the guitar was like medieval torture. THEN some bloody genius decided to put on a bubble machine! So I was freezing, I thought my hands would drop off and then the wind blows all these bubbles literally right at us and all over my beautiful telecaster fretboard. I was furious. I came off the stage swearing every curse under the sun vowing to never play outdoors again. Then we went to the pub and had a good laugh about it. Real Spinal Tap moment

My band played a NYE gig outside in Indianapolis a few years back. IIRC it was down around -10 F. The Billy Joel tribute band who was supposed to play ahead of us bailed completely. We did play but only four or five songs and decided that was enough. I think the crowd understood.

Love Morrissey. Saw him in Vegas this summer and he and the band sounded great.
Saw him play in Manchester on this tour and his voice was amazing. He takes his voice very seriously and really looks after it but if you watch the gig before this one he’s very clearly having issues with a few very flat notes. I think he walked off because he knew it was going and the cold temperature that night just made it much worse. He’s a perfectionist, love him or hate him for that.

I had no idea when an exgf dragged me to the Ryman auditorium in Nashville in the early 2000s that seeing a full Morrissey concert would become so rare.
Morrisey should have called up Liam and borrowed his parka. This brings me back to Slayer show at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago, Jan. 1986. Reigning Blood tour. It was bitter cold. Slayer was complaining about it, the posh California boys. My friends and I then heaped verbal abuse on them, not that they could hear it, but it made us feel better and their sound man thought it was funny. I'm a better person now, honest.
When you are shredding I can see how being cold would make ot very difficult. Morrissey has no excuse

I saw an interview where Kerry King was crying when recalling that someone was making fun of him for being cold at a show in the 1980s in Chicago. He said it was the reason they adopted pyrotechnics into their subsequent shows. "From that night on, I vowed that I would never be cold on stage again..." King whispered, with moist eyes and through gritted teeth.
Age related circulatory issues. It happens.
There used to be a mantra in show business: “The show must go on.” And it was taken deadly seriously, you just didn’t cancel under any circumstance, barring death or debilitating illness/injury (and even then, the show might well go on without you). It was a rule which performers took a great deal of pride in. Some still do, Dave Grohl comes to mind after he fell off stage, broke his leg and carried on from a chair with human splints keeping his leg in one place. Possibly because he realised what Morrisey hasn’t, that it’s just another gig for him, but could be a once in a lifetime experience for any number of the people in attendance.

@@slyasleep Yes! In fact, I was yelling it to my friend at the Morrissey show and Morrissey heard us and that’s why he walked off. Actually, I felt bad for him on this one occasion. Several years ago I was at a Sparks show and Morrissey sat right in front of me and people kept yelling at him to lighten up (Sparks has a song, Lighten Up Morrissey). They wouldn’t stop harassing him and trying to get him to react DURING THE SET, but he, like most of us, was trying to watch the damn show. So after about ten minutes he just got up and left. The Mael brothers are friends with him and would be pissed if they knew people were doing that at their show.

First of all, fucking despicable to charge $300 for your show during a financial crisis, although that may not be the artist's decision, I don't really know much about that. Secondly, if your fans are indeed charging $300 to see you, you bloody better do that show. Unless you've gotten some illness or illness or tragedy or any other completely reasonable reason to cancel, you better you those shows. If it's too cold, put a bloody jumper on. If Metallica can play a show in Antarctica, Morrissey has no excuse.

He's recently recovered from throat cancer. I have been told he pointed to his throat before walking off. Suffering from cancer can make you feel the chill. It does not make you a "tart".

I saw Lenny Kravitz at an outdoor show in the middle of summer in New Jersey. He had on velvet bell bottoms and a long velvet coat. Passed out from heat exhaustion 3 or 4 songs in.
We’ve seen Morrissey twice in Portland, Oregon and twice in Las Vegas, Nevada. Fortunately, no issues at any of them. He was great.

Morrissey's chill may be a consequence of his recent throat cancer. Were you aware of his recent illness? I have heard he pointed to his neck before he walked off. You know that throat cancer is usually more serious than a broken leg, right?
Sure, I think Dave Grohl was pretty cool to continue playing with a broken leg, but from a health perspective it may not have been the wisest choice. I'd rather have artists take care of themselves when necessary than wear themselves out because the show must go on no matter what. Maybe one of the reasons why Morrissey is still around and sounding great at 63 is because he knows when he's reached his limit and does not feel the need to portray himself as a cool masculin rockstar dude.

I was lucky to see him at Stockton Globe (UK), and he was absolutely outstanding. It seems a toss of a coin whether he turns up or not (in a physical and performance sense). But his Stockton performance was mesmerising at times. What an enigma.

I live not far from the Greek, and I must say, it has been quite chilly for Los Angeles lately. It is a known and researched thing that the absence of moisture in air can make it feel up to 15 degrees colder than the temperature is reading, and there is zero moisture in the air here, right now. Regardless, if Morrissey can't put on proper clothes for performing in what is still fairly mild temps, then we the people will respond. It will eventually cost him. This weather is PERFECT for a nice long khaki trench coat to go with his impeccable style of dress. I don't get it. He could've at least ended with "I Started Something I Couldn't Finish".

I think it's understandable. I mean, it's not like he did one or two songs and walked off. It must have been really bothering him and honestly, would you want to see an entertainer you love stay on stage and perform if they were in discomfort and unable to put their heart into it? I just hope he's okay.
Saw The Who at S.F. Cow Palace in 1973 when Keith passed out mid-show. Pete asked if anyone in the crowd could play the drums, someone made his way to the stage, and the show went on.
One has to realize that when we pay for a concert ticket, we are not only paying the artist, but their crew, the venue, security… so it’s challenging to demand refunds.
My favorite artist, Enrique Bunbury , started to cancel shows after some problems with his voice. As much as I love him, we skipped his show, and he ended up canceling it anyway.
I get your point but that applies to many other situations where you wouldn't think twice about demanding a refund. It's the job of that crew etc (including the main artist) to make sure the circumstances are comfortable and workable. They didn't provide what was paid for, so you should get a refund and not feel bad about it. This isn't voice problems, which is acceptable, this was something a coat would have solved.
Thank you, for the blurb. Friends of mine were at that show. I've been to the greek theater lots of times, if you go after September it gets a little cold, but please!!!! I would have lent him a hoodie. I saw Jeff Beck in the early 80s do the same at the Hollywood Bowl... or maybe it was the Greek?
I was at the show, Moz made one slight comment about the cold after the second or third song. But it wasn't a complaint, more of a thank you to the crowd for being there. However, it was really not that cold. Moz also walked off stage once earlier for about 2 minutes around that same time before returning.
Just before the final exit, Morrissey pointed at his neck to a stagehand and walked off. Perhaps the biggest dick move was just leaving his band awkwardly on stage in that moment for around 10 minutes with a nervous and quiet crowd. Very weird feeling in the air. The stagehand then called the band off and after a few minutes had two band members return to make the announcement.

Thank you for posting this, I saw the same thing on a video posted on youtube of the whole show. Yet everyone just repeats each other misinformation .. it ticks me off and I'm not Morrissey. Little disappointed Justin didn't do his due diligence in looking at the whole picture before wrongly stating that "he cancelled because it was too cold."
It's a little late in the year to be doing an outdoor show in LA. I went to Porcupine Tree there on September 30, and it was a little chilly but I prepared by bringing a jacket. I am wondering if venues like this can have heating lamps available for artists like those they put out on restaurant patios?
Stage lights tend to be very warm. Maybe they’re LED now but traditional halogen lights on a stage will have you sweating in no time.

There’s a recurring issue around temperature and his voice, clearly. I’ve heard that people like Celine Dion, Mariah Carey and Barry Manilow’s riders require backstage areas and stages at specific temperature and humidity. Not very rock and roll, admittedly - but didn’t Glenn Danzig walk off for a similar reason fairly recently?
I live about 50 miles south of LA and it was definitely a chilly night (low 50s/high 40s) BUT the Greek is notoriously an outdoor venue and November can be chilly! Really, it isn't a venue to perform in during the late fall and into winter unless you are prepared. There is a reason the fashions coming from California include layers - it always cools off at night!
Frankly, if he does have issues with the cold due to his throat, I’m confused why he would even agree to perform at an outdoor amphitheater in November at all. To my knowledge, he’s lived in LA for at least the past decade, so I would have expected him to take that into consideration.
He doesn't live in L.A. anymore, not for a while.

J. Hawk, Your content is absolutely the warmest truth I have heard in recent years. Never stop! I once saw Cyndi Lauper play a show in 100 degree heat. She stopped after the first 20 seconds into her set and i cringed... but it turned out all she wanted to do is rip the sound table guy a new one for her monitors sounded like shite! Her wicked wit was as wonderful as her hair and makeup. Then she winged it and played an amazing show. You sir are wonderful as well.

Yes, see this in the context of Morrissey's long-known finickiness. At the gig I attended a decade ago, the crowd had to wait nervously for over an hour and there were rumblings that the show might be canceled. I was irritated and my wife had dragged me to my first Morrissey show. But it proved to be one of the best shows I've ever experienced. No question! (She had to "drag" me to Prince also. I must have had bad taste back then.) Morrissey is not at Ye-level weirdness although he seems to be pushing it. I hope another national treasure does not descend to the point that I don't want to listen. I still listen to Morrissey's recordings but probably won't attend any more shows. The long drive and near miss a decade ago was enough. :(

I'm fairly certain the footage in the newsreel isn't from the show at The Greek, there is footage of this on CZcams.
He wore a jacket and t-shirt and it looks as though he added a few layers at some point during the set. He also pointed out that it was extremely cold but that they would 'steam ahead' or something to that effect, which suggests that the intention was to continue.
There may have been other difficulties that have not been publicised, which would be understandable if a reschedule was in the process of being agreed.
My take...
With regards to the Coachella set, as far as I have heard it's contracted that no meat will be in the venue for the show, whether you agree with this or not, the fault lies with the venue if this is not upheld after having been agreed. It's not uncommon for a minimum and maximum stage temperature also to be agreed as part of the advance and again, if this isn't achieved and it causes difficulty then the fault would lie with the venue.

Ritchie Blackmore did it a couple of weeks ago also. Then, one by one, his band followed him.
He also was complaining about the temperature and an low but incessant fire alarm buzz sound leaking in to the auditorium.
Alex Chilton of Big Star was another highly sensitive performer. I saw him sing twice; both times he was very disturbed by bad stage sound (which is understandable) and walked off after berating the soundguy. We had mutual friends so he gave me a lift home after one of these episodes, and he was perfectly jolly. I've played in enough bands to notice some of the better singers are in a somewhat altered state on stage; just full of adreneline. I think that's what's up with Morrisey; though from what I hear he's tempermental off stage as well.

Look at U2 live at red rocks. Massive gig for the guys.(and career changing) ie: they were gonna jack the band in.

Given his penchant for canceling shows.... I say this is not a very nice thing to do. Morrissey is genuinely adored by his fans and he seems to let them down fairly often. 😔
It's pretty common for an Englishman to complain about the weather, but VERY rare to have it effect them (particularly a Northerner). It could just be a case of coincidence and people putting 2 & 2 together to make 5. It might have been a health issue also: fever, poor circulation, lack of sleep, etc. Morrissey might well have been told he cannot continue by a Doctor as he needs rest - sadly, it happens when we get older and touring takes its toll

We live in the Valley and were at a show at the Hollywood Bowl this same night. (Encanto live in concert \m/ ) The Bowl and the Greek are just a couple miles apart. 'Twas indeed a bit of a chill in the air, but at our show the venue full of schoolchildren persevered. Not all heroes wear capes..... some of them wear puffy jackets.
I went to watch him on September 30th in the beautiful town of Doncaster in South Yorkshire and him and his band played for 90mins and was absolutely brilliant and Ime not the worlds number one morrissey fan but everyone who we spoke too thought the gig was fantastic .

Excited to hear what you have to say on ticket prices these days, it's gotten to a point where I dread having to even try to buy concert tickets at all and then even if you do get them there's this feeling inside you that you just sold your soul to Ticketmaster.
You don't have to buy them. It's called inflation. Due to your Fed Reserve constantly printing more money out of thin air and adding to the amount in circulation. All roads lead to Bitcoin now.
I've completely stopped now they even charge a 'booking fee' when it's pay on the door at some places. Piss take.

I do feel bad for the fans, and totally understand the disappointment and frustration. I've been lucky enough to have never experienced a short show or cancelled show of his, and thought what I saw/heard/experienced was incredible every time.
With throat cancer and now in his older years, I don't know what it's like to try and perform in cooler temperatures, but wouldn't be surprised if something other than temperature caused the abrupt ending. I'd also argue that the ticket price is due to Ticketmaster and other shits buying the tickets and reselling at a higher price. I'm seeing Morrissey tomorrow (if all goes according to plan!) - tickets originally listed for $89 on Ticketmaster, then days later soared to $199. I hope he hosts another show for those fans to make it up to them.

Morrissey is well known for cancelling shows for different reasons I have no idea if it was too cold and his voice could suffer.He's difficult we all know that I love him but it's obvious that he's a diva.
I saw Zen Guerilla play in Bordeaux, when the lead singer started fighting with the drummer and it had to be cut short. It was epic.

I had tickets to see him in the 90’s in Australia but the show was cancelled. Due to illness apparently. Wanted to see him but really wasn’t fussed that it was cancelled. More bummed out that i missed guns n roses during their first Australian tour in 88 when they were at the best.

I remember October 18, 2003 when the darkness had to cancel the liverpool show. We were selling t shirts out front and were the last ones to find out. Holding about 300 quid when they told the crowd the show darkness show wasnt happening. We ran like hell!
That's a very understanding take on this. I don't personally feel I would be that forgiving. I don't know the reasons why he walked off stage, but if it was 11C outside, coupled with the heat of stage lights (which I know you can vouch for) I would have thought he was plenty warm.
During the Southpaw Grammar tour he came to Cleveland, Ohio. He came out, yelled, "Good bye, Cleveland" played one song from his new album, then "shoplifters..." then left the stage. That was it. Two songs. I drove an hour to see him, paid $40 in 1998 money to be so sorely let down. Everything Morrissey went into a large box where I drew a tombstone on it with the words "r.i.p. s.p.m.". (sad trombone sound)
P.S. Unforgivable. A professional performer should know better.
For what The Moz has imparted to me for over a quarter of a century, I remain a Morrissey apologist in many situations - including this one.
LA. November. At The Greek. It's not as if the 53-degree (F) temp was unexpected. This was hardly Napoleon's Grand Armée's 1812 slog through the snow in Russia. I've seen Brian May perform under stage lights in near 100-degree (F) heat and almost 100-percent humidity. Sweat getting into his eyes and actively pouring from his face to his guitar's face, rolling off and splashing onto his shoes, the stage, and the people in front of him. His fingers slipped on the strings and were all over the shop, but he stuck it out and made it work. Same for Lionel Richie in the miserable Washington, DC summer heat and humidity plus stage lights, sweating profusely, and clearly uncomfortable, but he kept on, joked about it, and even borrowed my fan to cool off. People can drop dead in that kind of heat and humidity. I've seen Cat Power do a complete set with active bronchitis. She could have--and should have--canceled because of the damage it was doing to her voice, but she didn’t. What these professional performers have in common is commitment and respect. To their audience. To their band. To their crew. YOU, Justin, demonstrate this commitment and respect time and time again. If the job were easy, everyone would be doing it.
Sure, he can play the artiste card. He's Morrissey. And yes, some people can flip this into a positive and say, "Yeah. It's art. I was there when he walked off the stage because it was 53 degrees." And others in the audience will have experienced the same thing and say, "Yeah, I was there when he took my money and didn't live up to his end of the deal." If he’s that susceptible to the weather and smells at outdoor venues then his people shouldn’t be booking him into places where he will be affected and distracted by them. When you're Montserrat Caballé you can have your people say, “Mme. Caballé is available this season for a limited number of cancellations.” When you're Morrissey? Maybe not so much. But he can continue to eff around and find out.

Love Moz. Peerless catalogue. Seen him twice and been cancelled once. The 4th time I was supposed to see him my flight was delayed so I stood him up I guess. We are even.
Personally, I don't think he's racist or especially "far right" either. He's a complicate dude who has a history of contrarianism and nuanced view.
For example, his comments on the Chinese that landed him in hot water years ago were a natural outgrowth of his extreme animal rights view. He sees it as murder. I don't, but it follows that if you think meat is murder, then certain cultural norms about the slaughter, display and consumption of animals is murder and inhuman. It is what it is.
He has also been anti-monarchy, anti-Thatcher, and anti- most everything, without any discernible thread of consistency beyond advocating for whoever he views as an outsider or brutal... and favoring provocative one-liners just because he likes the wording or turn of phrase, as opposed to any statement of his "true" beliefs. He has also treated certain subcultures (e.g. skinheads, "suedeheads") as objects of curiosity and a source of artistic inspiration. Same deal with so-called "rent boy" culture (see "piccadilly palare"). He does seem to bemoan the loss of what he views as traditional British culture, which is perceived as anti-immigrant and xenophobic, but he has always lived in the past and I don't really fault him for loving British culture, draping himself in a Union Jack, etc. He's huge in Mexico so non-white people love his music and see themselves in it so I think that counts for more than surmising what he may think about some things he hasn't actually directly spoken on. Nick Cave had a good piece about reconciling the art with the man anyway, which makes sense to me.
Setting all of that aside, his catalog is brilliant and he's a singular artist. Anyone who thinks they know what he is or what he's about should spend some time with his catalog post-Smiths. I'd recommend Viva Hate, Bona Drag, Vauxhall and I, and Your Arsenal. His b-sides from that era are also great.
Justin- please check out the acoustic version of "I know very well how I got my name". It's less than 2 minutes, and I can listen to it on repeat indefinitely.

But whereas Morrissey is merely in a group, the audience are in a crowd. And as Bryan Ferry once mused, a crowd by sheer number alone will always be a warmer place to be in than in a group. After which, to reinforce his theory, he covered the song 'The "In" Crowd' "I'm in with the In crowd, I go where the In crowd goes (because it's always nice and warm in the In crowd, like a big cosy jumper knitted of people). :0)
Saw M in 1992 at Limelight (almost 20 years to the day) and the fire marshall supposedly ended the show. So maybe November spawns a monster in Morrissey?

I went to see Rod Stewart at an outdoor show in Phoenix, Arizona, about 25 years ago. There was an unseasonably cold weather pattern going through, and it got down to about 35° Fahrenheit during the show. Rod and everyone else on stage were wearing coats. He'd sung a good hour and a half when it started getting windy. He had to stop the show at that point. Dust and such were blowing onto the stage and it must have been difficult to perform. He really did as well as possible for as long as possible. It was a great show! But no one was pissy about it. The audience was cold and getting dust in their eyes, too. We had a great time that night, but my friend and I were happy to get into the car and turn on the heater.

I saw him once in the early 90's in Detroit, and about 40 minutes into the set he sang "this is the last song will ever sing" and amid the thunderous applause from the crowd- left the stage, not to come back. I found it charming, if not a little too on the nose. It didn't make the news, and everyone seemed to have a nice time.

And my favourite LP of his from the last few years… ‘World Peace is None of your Business’. I could only add neither is ‘Climate…’ He plays the game. But he’s greedy….

I think at this point his reputation is so poor it’s kind of at your own risk if you choose to go, doesn’t mean it’s not crappy, but you know what could happen by now. Personally I’d rather just chuck a Smiths or Morrissey record on if I felt the need, I know it’ll be there, and not cost me 300 (that’s about 500 NZD), and instead spend that money seeing 3 or 4 artists who really love to perform instead. People behave this way because we allow them to, so vote with your feet as they say.

@@mikebarker6979 Depends on the venue itself and your seat, but yup, I believe tickets for the Greek went from $200USD up to $1600USD. It does look like it’s being rescheduled so that’s good for those who live local. Other venues looks to average from ~$90 USD up to ~$600 USD, seat only. So a decent chunk of change in this climate.

Watching a video of this performance, you could clearly Morrissey's breath as he came on stage-suggesting it might have been both cold and damp; not a good combination. And how did he meet this weather? In a thin concert T-shirt and a suit. Not at all the right outfit. Still, it's a bit hard to believe this couldn't have been rectified by a roadie or a fan willing to share a zippered hoodie and maybe some gloves. (Or maybe-gasp!-some long johns, kept backstage for a quick change?)
But his voice also sounded raspy at the start, as he greeted the crowd by shouting ‘Los Angela! …Angela! Angela!’ whatever that meant. Maybe it was a bad recording, but his vocals during the songs sounded buried in the mix and barely there. When he walked off stage after ‘Girlfriend in a Coma’, I assumed it was because he'd lost his voice mid-song-"Do you really think [she'll] pull through?"-and it wasn't fair to his fans or his health to keep going. But it's also true he had appeared to be struggling with the cold earlier-flipping up his jacket collar, putting hands in pockets, etc. Vocal issues may have been the last straw, related or not.
There's an amazing concert of Metallica doing a concert in England (as I recall) in a major storm. They weren't dressed for that sort of weather and were soaked from head to toe. The guitars and basses were soaked, there were puddles all over the stage, and Lars had water flying in his face each time he smacked the drums (and he strikes them hard). They still did the entire show, completely outdoors and in the elements. I wasn't there in person, but that's one of my favorite sets of all time on CZcams from their recent years. The rain just totally made the show better, and nobody whined about it even once. The crowd was totally into it even though they were also getting soaked.
I don't understand why Morrissey didn't just put a jacket on if he was cold. If it was an issue of his voice struggling in the cold, it would have been nice had he explained that to the crowd himself. Maybe he could have tried taking a short break to drink something warm. No matter the reason, it's wrong to send a random crew member on stage to handle the dirty work. Morrissey should have given a proper explanation, tried to see if he could take a short break to warm up or drink something warm, etc.
They should refund the entire ticket price/fees and reschedule the show (giving priority to those who attended first). I don't think a partial refund is fair. People travel from far and wide and spend a lot of money on tix. They may have lost hotel, airfare, etc. if they traveled from out of town. Locals pay big bucks for parking lots, food, and sometimes even take off from work. They should get a full refund at the very least, but it's not going to nearly cover all the associated costs and time invested in order to attend a show. A full refund of the ticket price and fees is the least they can do -- too bad if Morrissey and everyone else associated with the show lose money. He walked off nobody from his band, crew, management made an effort to see if they could take a break to see if they could make Morrissey more comfortable with warmer attire, warm drinks, heaters on stage, etc. This situation was not handled correctly by Morrissey and his team, so concert attendees shouldn't lose just because Morrissey was not properly prepared for doing a show in 50 degree weather.
That was at the Etihad in Manchester! - I was there! -- James said - "This weather is really messing with my wig."
Morrissey is kinda a bit elderly now you know.

It totally comes through on video that they were really into putting on an amazing show, even if they would end up getting electrocuted! I always wonder how their instruments and equipment didn't get totally trashed -- meanwhile, us pathetic at home guitarists baby the humidity levels and stuff. Glad you got to experience that concert up close and personal. It truly is one of my faves of all time, and I'm wasn't even there!
@@peterbluesman of course I know Morrissey is getting older. My thing is, he knows his own limits as would his band, managers, etc. They knew he was performing in an outdoor venue -- maybe they shouldn't have booked an outdoor venue to begin with, or prepared better to make him more comfortable on stage. That's poor planning and management when you're dealing with someone whose getting older and may not be able to tolerate performing in 50 degree weather.
And like I said, they didn't even try to see if they could give him a 30 mins break to warm up and/or try making him more comfortable on stage. I'm sure fans would have happily understood if he needed to take a break and would have appreciated that he tried to stick it out (even if he couldn't keep going after that). Marching off stage like a cold baby without attempting to address the problem isn't professional or acceptable.
Fans shouldn't have to lose anything else when there was poor planning and no attempt to rectify the situation. Getting older really isn't an excuse -- look how many other aging bands and performers get up on stage in all sorts of circumstances. If you have a singer who really can't tolerate it, that's fine -- but then don't book a show outdoors to begin with . . . or if you do book an outdoor gig, make sure he's properly dressed and comfortable for that weather. I mean, how would you feel if you spent all that time and money to go to an extremely costly gig and then saw the singer march off stage like a cold baby after 30 mins when nobody attempted to rectify the situation?

I saw him last month in Brighton and he was phenomenal. Even then, he did say his throat wasn't great. Ongoing issues from past illnesses I believe. The man's is one of the few current artists that has balls.
I have Multiple Sclerosis and temperature regulation is very hard to deal with.
Morrissey should not schedule another show till he's sure he can finish them.
I can't play shows anymore and I wish I could but leaving a paying crowd in the middle of a show isn't fair to the fans.
Those fans should never buy another ticket to one of his shows.
Musicians need to know when to quit like me. It sux, and it's depressing, but it's my problem, and shouldn't be the fans problem.
