    ★About Professor Herp★
    I started getting into the reptile hobby in February of 2018. My first reptile was my Bearded Dragon - Maxine Pegasus (creator of duel monsters btw). Since then, I have added five Yellow Ackie Monitors (Asus, Dell, LG, and two unnamed babies), a Chacoan Black and White Tegu (Frappuccino), a Crested Gecko (Destin), and a Russian Tortoise (Tortellini). I also have a dog named Thrall (yes, from World of Warcraft) who is a Dachshund/Chihuahua mix - aka a Chiweenie.
    My goal with this channel is to share my knowledge, experience and journey with other reptile/animal enthusiasts and become a better caretaker because of it. Hopefully I can learn a lot from the community through these videos.

    Did you know?
    My local Argentine tegu breeder has a male Argentine black and white Tegu and he is just like a cat. (Believe it or not tegus are more comparable to cats than dogs, but they are a class of their own.) Whenever she passes through his enclosure (8×4×3) his eyes light up, he tucks his head under her chin and nuzzles her neck, he looks at her when she talks to him, and honestly, he at least appears to appreciate the company/attention she gives. Hence why most people want tegus.

    Would a 6x3x3 work for a blue Tegu?

    How much of that applies to a Gold Tegu? Also, you can keep them outside in Texas, at least the gulf coast area...check out "Rose City Reptiles" He breeds them and keeps them outside...he has some really cool enclosures

    I know this was 6 months ago, but I have a 4 month old blue tegu. I see some Breeders want their tegus soaked in water weekly or even more often. Thoughts? Also, my tegu had bright yellow urates last time he pooped. I can’t find much about this. What could be the problem?

    • @ProfessorHerp
      @ProfessorHerp  Před 3 lety +1

      Sometimes yellow urates happen. As for bathing, I do not personally, but think there is no harm in doing so.

      Well Count Dooku, maybe depending on the age and size of the individual. They have quite powerful jaws. Nothing like your lightsaber though!

    Not being negative but didnt your tegu almost die due to poor husbandry?

    • @ProfessorHerp
      @ProfessorHerp  Před 4 lety +3

      No. And I would appreciate if you did not share incorrect information.
      My Tegu had an infection in his mouth. Neither I nor the exotic vet know how he got the infection. Very well could be totally unrelated to husbandry. This infection led to other minor issues. He also has a calcium deficiency in the tip of his nose. We are unsure of how that occurred as well. A popular theory the vet has is the uvb bulb was deficient.
      The exotic vet (various research experience with reptiles) did a house visit as well and gave minor husbandry tweaks. I wanted to ensure that the issue was not husbandry related, that is why I asked her to evaluate my husbandry. And maybe husbandry did cause an issue (no one can know), but I learned a lot from the experience and the experience made me a better keeper.
      He is completely fine now and was no where near death. Just a little under the weather. Also, problems happen. Any reputable keeper/breeder has encountered issues and problems (husbandry and non-husbandry related). That is part of the hobby and learning. Also why I share my experiences to help others and be open about my care.

      its all too easy for keepers to 'never have problems' i dont believe this, seen lots of experienced breeder video's sharing their experiences when things go wrong. Its great that prof herp is open n sharing his experience so others can learn!

      Any reptile keeper has mistakes along the way and they correct them and learn.. his reptiles are very well cared for and what he’s saying is all true..
