    ★About Professor Herp★
    I started getting into the reptile hobby in February of 2018. My first reptile was my Bearded Dragon - Maxine Pegasus (creator of duel monsters btw). Since then, I have added five Yellow Ackie Monitors (Asus, Dell, LG, and two unnamed babies), a Chacoan Black and White Tegu (Frappuccino), a Crested Gecko (Destin), and a Russian Tortoise (Tortellini). I also have a dog named Thrall (yes, from World of Warcraft) who is a Dachshund/Chihuahua mix - aka a Chiweenie.
    My goal with this channel is to share my knowledge, experience and journey with other reptile/animal enthusiasts and become a better caretaker because of it. Hopefully I can learn a lot from the community through these videos.

    I used old windows and scrap plywood to build my enclosure. Its 8x3x3 and probably cost me $100 -$150 plus the cost to seal it, so if your creative you can save a few bucks to!! I also used rocks i found and just washed them same for the sticks and logs. I use a storage bin as a hidebox and a cat litter pan as a water basin also,lol.

      I would have no clue where to get old windows and scrap plywood haha. Good on you for saving all that dough though

    Not bad on the cost. You have an enclosure that won't rot. Im building mine and its not cheap if you do it well and make it to last. Great videos keep them coming!

      What I like about AP enclosures is you can disassemble and reassemble them. Makes for easy moving and reuse

    thank u so much for making this cost breakdown, really appreciate the initial setup+animal + longterm maintenance. i've been playing with the idea about getting a tegu in the future (way, way in the future), and this is a really clear thing to think about, especially for ppl who wouldn't have a clear idea what they're really getting into until they're in it. look forward to seeing more of these :)

    Might have to make a video on this but with my savannah monitor. Also my halogen bulbs last more than 4 months so idk why your bulbs burn out so fast, might be a brand thing.

    I spent $100.00 dollar's on my red tegu and $100.00 dollars on custom enclosure with built-in ramp in basking spot. On Craigslist and they also delivered the enclosure in him from Merrill Wisconsin to Wausau Wisconsin for me. And I've been waiting for a taegu for a long time and I believe waiting paid off for me. 💖 And his name is Houdini. No he don't escape from enclosure.

    I've been blessed with Pubba. His major cost is food (lots of quail, rats, and chicks)

    • @ProfessorHerp
      @ProfessorHerp  Před 4 lety

      how much would you say you spend weekly?

    • @IrieRogue
      @IrieRogue Před 4 lety

      @@ProfessorHerp it varies. If I get a good deal, I can get enough chicks to feed him for two months for 30 dollars. So as little as four dollars a week. Sometimes it's more, though, closer to sixty, even eighty, so as much as 10 per week. I also get a bunch of vegetables and fruits to puree once every 5, 6 months, and I freeze them in portions. I then use the "mush" to stuff the chicks and rodents. That maybe costs 25, 30 bucks.

    Are you sure your fixture is rated for the bulbs? Mine was dying quickly because of that. Then I fixed it and it doesn't die as often anymore. I did wire in the fixture myself for my beardie and ball python so I knew right away what went wrong.

    • @ProfessorHerp
      @ProfessorHerp  Před 4 lety

      hmm how could I tell? Sorry not to knowledgeable on this haha

    • @minhannguyen450
      @minhannguyen450 Před 4 lety

      @@ProfessorHerp So, the fixture itself I think should be able to handle the bulb and the bottom of it should tells you what it can handle wattage wise (this is what I got: www.lowes.com/pd/Legrand-White-Ceiling-Socket/3235942?cm_mmc=shp-_-c-_-prd-_-elc-_-google-_-lia-_-205-_-wiringdevices-_-3235942-_-0&store_code=2219&placeholder=null&gclsrc=aw.ds&&ds_a_cid=112741100&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIqPzU_-yy6wIVyODICh3l3w8NEAQYASABEgLMJvD_BwE). What I did wrong when I wired mine up is using the wrong cord. To wire these up, I cut up an extension cord and strip the ends to wire it to the fixture. I picked a cord that couldn't take the wattage I needed and thus my bulb burned out within days. When the same happened to the second brand new bulb, I realized my mistake and fixed it.

    I use reptilinks also. I feed my girl 6 every 3 days. Ive talked to some people and they only feed 5 a week. How many do you feed, and how many times a week?

    • @ProfessorHerp
      @ProfessorHerp  Před 4 lety +1

      I feed 2 25g per feeding with two feedings weekly based on the sizing guide and talking with them

    • @figuresix
      @figuresix Před 4 lety

      @@ProfessorHerp ok so reptilinks i get are 8 to 12g each, My girl is 2, almost 3 years old. She is 4 foot long now, she was very undersized and not taken care of when we adopted her in october. but pretty sure shes up to size now. Vet visit isnt due till October so not sure of her weight right now. So the 5 to 6 every 3 to 4 days is correct? Thank you for your time, I appreciate it.

    Suggestions: You may want to add a city, state and year... Most people may know where you live, but people coming across it on the internet may not think. Yes I said "THINK!" Some people "think" they are doing research, but forget that not all internet posts are from the area they live in. Yes, I know this sounds stupid. However, fast food locations need to put "Caution contents may be hot!" on HOT COFFEE! Just saying...
