well lets keep in mind helicopters can only go so fast. a. traditional helicopter with a single proppeller blade on top (aside from the rudder blade used to keep the copter from spiinning out).which may be what the bat copter is unless I didnt notice forward propellers. The thrust used to keep the copter up and move it forward will be too great on the side where the blades move "with the grain" too commpensate and the copter tilts.

*You actually **_did_** forget an option: one of the reasons they tested many nukes under the ocean is for the damping effect of water (since water is uncompressable). He doesn't need to get 6 miles out: he only needs to get 3 miles out, and then dump the bomb in the water - the damping of the water would prevent blast injury to most everyone, while a large majority of the fallout would be returned to the water after the blast created the cloud and it's associated radioactive steam. Yes, lots of folks would get dead, but it wouldn't be from the detonation, it would be from after the fact fallout and possibly tsunami.*

Remember, Lucius (while he thought Bruce was dead) is looking over the build of another bat when the techs report (after Lucius comments on adding an autopilot) the software had been updated to include an autopilot by Bruce Wayne, giving the explanation for how he survived.

I think someone pointed out the big flaw in their theory: that the Bat would only be as fast as the fastest helicopter. That's the thing. It is. The film is set in some kind of alternate future. The Bat actually has jet propellors (you can see it as it's leaving the bay). So yes, it's way faster than the fastest helicopter.
Well from what we can see Batman isn’t going 140 mph in Gotham. Even if you take into account that Bat Copter is faster than the fastest copter, he still won’t be going top speed at all and Gotham will still be (at least) irradiated.

I loved your video. Although, there were a few problems that popped up for instance the batcopter in the comics was a common helocopter that fit usally one but could fit two people in some forms also called the whirlybat. Well that's not the same in The Dark Night Rises that seems to be more of the batplane plus no one calls it the bat copter not even Lucius Fox calls it that (he calls it the bat) I think that a plane can go alot faster than the fastest helocopter in the world. But besides that this is a bit more minor Gotham is actually set in New Jersey not Manhattan I know that the shots of Gotham are clips of Manhattan but I wanted to adress those hicups. BUT THAT'S JUST A THEROY A COMMENT THEROY AND SUBMIT

When I think of a Bat-Copter, I remember Batman climbing up a rope ladder with a shark chewing on his leg. Actually, that seems to make the Adam West Batman as majorly hardcore as the others. He can climb a ladder while also involuntarily carrying a freaking shark!

Is it right to assume that the speed of the bat would be equal to the fastest helicopter? I mean this movie has some massively unrealistic gadgets and crap that are far beyond what we have today, so who's to say his helicopter doesn't travel faster then the fastest helicopter?
There is a maximum force and wieght a structure can endure, but in most superhero movies it seem like those law doesn't apply often so we really don't know, and we can't say something out of that. But if the law of physic really work in those movies ( like, all of them ), and if the helicopter is made with a really light and strong material, I guess with my knowledge that it could had travelled a little faster, but we shall refer to an expert in helicopter to confirm if it is possible. Anyway, don't let a theory ruin your appreciation of the movie, it wasn't intended to do so, just a "not so fun fact" to know and say that the bomb shall always have a little more time for make out and say good bye lul. Next time mat shall call an expert to know if it would be possible in the scenario I describ( with the light and strong material we don't have). (Sorry I'm not the best in english)

before i even watch, let me point something out:
the movies were written TO SPECIFICALLY SHOW that batman himself was the problem. every one of the villains were brough to gotham in some way by batman's existence. the Al Ghuls, Bane, the Joker (who was a direct response to batman), two face (was in the position thanks to batman's funding and social support, and was brought to his mental condition through the joker).
everything that went wrong was in part due to batman being around. its why bruce wayne decided to end it at the end. he realized it was all his fault, and gave up his vigilateism.

Ras was going to burn the place to the ground before he even found Bruce in that Chinese prison and only recruited him because his first attempt (economics) didn't work. Ras made him Batman not the other way around. Ras made Talia and Bane who they were as well, not Batman. She had massive daddy issues and Bane had a boner for Talia. Scarecrow was a sick fuck before Batman showed up, Marconi was the same gang leader he was Seven years ago when Bruce left if not worse. Joker himself existed before the Cowl. He might be a response as Gordon put it (wearing a mask and creeping around rooftops) but all that evil and sickness was there before. He just gave him a counterbalance. Gotham made them both.
Only one that is Batman's fault is Harvey. Not because Joker lied and sent him to the wrong place so he saved him instead of Rachel, but that he got him involved trying to be the hero Gotham deserved and that's why Joker broke him because he wasn't the symbol Bruce wanted him to be. He was a man and as Bruce said himself a man can be broken, killed, or ignored. Harvey dying made him that symbol but at the cost of a massive deception.
He 'died' a hero, an immortal symbol, and an iconic guide to those who would follow him (Robin). That is why he hung up the tights and went to Cannes.

Daniel Williams I suggest you take your own advice. Ras admitted they tried before and their effort is essentially what made Bruce turn into Batman. He did not bring them there. They were already there as far back as Bruce, age 9. Joker is referenced at the end of Begins as well when he barely started operating at the Batman. Joker fixated on him as his perceived opposite.
Only one Bruce caused was Two-face.

Batman clearly states when attaching the bomb to the Bat "I can get it out over the bay" which implies that Gotham City (in Chris Nolan's universe at least) is right besides the ocean. Nolan's Gotham City isn't necessarily based upon NYC since in the Dark Knight Trilogy cities such as Chicago, Los Angeles, Pittsburgh and London were also filming locations for Gotham.

But, even if we accept that Gotham was saved, what effect would the bomb have had on Batman? Surely he was within the radius of the bomb when he (presumably) evacuated his Batcopter...? Or was his Batcopter conveniently nuclear bomb-proof (in which case, wouldn't it have made more sense for the bomb to detonate inside the Batcopter?)??
That would have been an awesome ending.

You're assuming that the batcopter is on the same level as any normal helicopter but you have to remember that he is the guy who made the batmobile and the watchtower, it's likely at least 2x as powerful as any helicopter to date.
in the Nolan films he didn't make any of this stuff Lucius Fox did.
TC Nigel yeah but even though, for whatever reason, batman didn't make them himself they are somewhat comparable to the things he made in the comics, and even at the reduced strength all batman's items and vehicles were made at they were still beyond most modern equivalents.

wouldn't one of the best things batman could've done be to drop the bomb into the water? Doing that(to my knowledge) would significantly reduce the blast radius, cripple the radiation leak, but send all of it's payload into the ocean(so mutant fish, but whatever).
+mutilator97 I always thought he did. But truthfully, even if it was placed on the riverbed, it'd be like stopping a bullet with Kleenex. It would help reduce the initial blast but the radiation is still present and water is only going to do so much. Also you now have radioactive material caught up in the water raining down on the parts of the city. There is no good way to stop a nuke (unless you're firestorm)

If you could drop a bomb a good 8000 leagues or more the crushing weight of the ocean could potentially stop the bomb from even going off but just in case it does you'd still have a violent eruption that would at least poke out about a mile above the water.. The water itself would be irradiated for quite sometime but most of the nuclear material would subside to lower leagues until crushed.. Potentially everyone is "saved" and the newborn Atlantic coast is put on quarantine but yes.. A much safer way to detonate the bomb if not potentially stop it all together.

The Bat has after burners and adjustable wings and diffusers so it can travel hell of a lot faster than a helicopter with propellers the Bat uses propeller underneath it to achieve lift rather than having huge wings so technically it's a plane and it can travel hell of a lot faster.
I just rewatched the dark knight rises after watching this video. You can clearly see the afterburners come on on the back of the Bat. So it must have some sort of jet capabilities, it’s not just a helicopter.
