Calculation: (Your Battery Cycle Count x 20) / 500 = How much capacity you lost
Do you know the Maximum Capacity on your iPhone Battery Health is generally incorrect?? In this video I show you how to check the real number, the real percentage, with the Battery Cycle Count! Hope U Enjoy!
Technical Information (Apple Support): support.apple.com/en-us/HT208387 - Věda a technologie
Hi, Daniel. I appreciate the video, but I have to say - your method of estimating the iPhone's battery health is incorrect. First of all, Apple's promise that the iPhone's battery will retain at least 80% of its design capacity after 500 cycles does NOT mean the iPhone's battery capacity will certainly reduce to 80% at that point. It simply gives you the worst-case scenario. Smartphones to date use lithium-ion batteries. A lithium-ion battery's health largely depends on how you use it. If you use it too aggressively (e.g., frequently discharge it to very low percentages and/or charge it to full and keep it full for a long time, fast-charge it often, etc.), it will degrade faster. If you use it "gently" (e.g., never let the battery percentage go too low, always use a slow charger to prevent elevating the battery's temperature much, use iPhone's "optimized charging" feature, etc.), even after 500 cycles, it could still be at 95% or higher. Second, the reason that your phone's battery is still showing 100% after 121 cycles simply means that it's still at or above its design capacity. How's that possible, you may ask? That is because lithium-ion batteries in smartphones, laptops, even electric vehicles typically have 2-5% extra capacity as a buffer, which is hidden to the users. Yes, your phone may have lost say, 3% of its initial capacity, but what is remaining could still be above the design capacity. That's why it says its battery health is still at 100%. Bigger iPhones, such as iPhone 13 Pro max and 14 Pro max, usually fare better than their smaller variants, because: (1) their larger batteries allow them to retain a higher percentage at the end of every day, and (2) they go through fewer charge cycles after the same amount of usage by the user, both of which are good for the battery health. I observed this first hand with my previous iPhones. I consider myself a very "gentle" battery user and never fast charge my phones. :) My iPhone 12 Pro's battery health was at 92% after a year because I usually ended the day at ~30%, but my iPhone 13 Pro Max was still at 100% health after 12 months because its battery almost never fell below 50% when I went to sleep at night. I hope this makes sense.
Very helpful from this comment, hopefully everyone would be able to see this about this. But I’m curious to ask though, if you use the fast charger (like 20 watts) for your iPhone, would it degrade faster from your maximum capacity? Because I just got this new phone recently with a charger that is 20 watts. So I might be afraid that this maximum capacity of this phone would degrade faster. But thanks for the information about this though. Again it’s very helpful!
@@st4ffz775 The reason that you should minimize use of fast chargers on your iPhone is because of the large current being pumped into your phone's battery. The biggest enemy to a lithium-ion battery's health is high temperatures, which may degrade the chemicals inside. A high current input (when charging) or output (like when you're playing games) will increase the battery temperature because of the heat generated from the battery's internal resistance (Power=I^2*R). The higher the current, the quicker your battery will heat up. Lower temperatures (not too low, though) are always better for the battery. Phone manufacturers' claims that your phone can be fast-charged at 20, 30 watts etc only mean that your battery health will still stay above 80% after 500 cycles (i.e., as promised by the warranty). Inevitably, your battery health will still degrade faster than it would have with a slow charger like the old-school 5-watt charger that used to come with iPhones. That being said, given that nowadays replacing the iPhone's battery only costs ~10% of the phone's cost, it's up to you whether you think the benefits of fast charging is worth it. Personally, I would avoid using a fast charger unless it's absolutely necessary.
@@doniel2008 Okay Thanks!
Can u tell me what is clean charging for many people saying turn it off can some one explain me plzz
Yes you are right and I agree with you justification.
As a shop. I calculate the cycle by 5% each year and normally 20% gone means your battery is ready for service so each 5% lost from 100% it means you lost 25 percent of your battery, 5% x4 = 20 take that out from 100 and you have 80% battery left and Apple will say Service in the settings/battery/battery max capacity. Which means each 5% is 125 cycles and 20% gone from battery, means 500 cycles are gone. I haven't seen your calculation in the description Daniel but I will go ahead and check now. This is how i calculated previously :).
I’m on 110 cycles, 100% health
If i have 0 cycles i have 100%?

If you phone worked fine otherwise why didnt you just swap the battery????
People are strange
The operating system running in it works dynamically. This is something that will vary from user to user. Whatever the life cycle is, what you do with the phone is more important.
Am at 821 cycles and still have 96 capacity , and on my other Xr was at 121 cycles with 95 , it depends how u use and charge ur phone Thanks
Your (battery cycle count × 20) / 500 is the same as your (battery cycle count / 25). Is there any reason for doing it 'your way' aside from possibly appearing more complex? Genuine question.
Thank you.
How did you come up with the formula please? Why are we multiplying by 20?
Depends a lot on how you charge your phone, I have kept the 100% with more than 300 cycles by charging between 40-80%
A cycle is a cycle, so it would take you around 2.5 rounds to complete a charge cycle just liek if you wen tfrom 100%-0%. What you did was reduce stress on the battery by staying between 40-80%.
You dont charge till 100% ?
What phone brand is that
@@corveight4132 Charging to a 100% can destroy/degrade your Battery its not really advisable to do
But you can do it, very often not all the time.
Changing the battery is cheap 5 euros for the screwdriver, 10 euro heat gun, 1 euro suction handle and 6 euro glue and obviously 25 euros for the battery, if you purchased any phone that is android. So it's fine.
cycles are an average value to represent approximate wear life and this depends on many things. Full and partial charge cycles, what charger and at what temperature. many variables. so the measurement from the capacity will be more accurate because the number of cycles alone does not determine the degradation of the battery value. it has no effect on it.
Sure but I assume apple is going based on the charger the iPhone comes with.
My iPhones battery showing 407 cycle
The phone is showing 99% health but I’m keeping the battery charge level between 40-80%
@@martinmansfiled6397 you are charging the right way
Way way way too long of stuff to do
Nice!
Very informative!!!
My Iphone 13 mini has 141 cycle.
More or less it still has 95% batt health.
If you keep your phone in the load range of 20-80%, you will reduce the battery wear to a minimum, as long as you do not overheat your battery. You can overheat your battery by fast charging, other than MacSafe charging, where the phone and charger keeps an eye on battery temperature and stops charging, if your iPhone battery gets too hot, Forthermore, remove your phone from case for charging, don't leave it in the sun or in a hot car and stop gaming if the phone throttles and dims the screen. Charge your phone at a time of day, where your can keep an eye on the battery load, so you can stop charging at 80%. Then your battery will last much longer.
Same thing can be said about those 500 cycles. Its not an exact math. It depends on other factors: fast charge, normal charge, wireless charge, the amount of charge, the amount of discharge, etc
Nope
@@haidar2638 nope what?
That is correct.
The worst thing is Fast/Power charge. I dont Unterstand, every user needs to charge his Phone as fast, as possible.
Fast charging doesn't degrade the battery as much as you think. A 10w charger from 0-100 will raise the temperature to 35-40c depending on the stage. While Xiaomi over here 240w charging gets the temperature to 45c , say you super charge it twice per day you will get the same heat production as the 10w charger since you charged the phone half of the time. Meaning it doesn't jump to 45c
@@stefanbock7529 also bad are wireless chargers, becaus they heat up battery while charge. Mag safe also.
This could be much simpler, shorter, and less redundant but it’s very helpful.

Typical reply from what that type has become.
Every time I try to do mine, it freezes on me. I have to basically clear it and star over. @@sagarbabu1907 well that’s great but I already have 16.1.2 and this is what’s going on. I’ll try this again when the update to 16.2 comes out and see if anything changes for me.

This only shows you have used 95.16% of the 500. You don't take into account the battery full charge capacity (FCC) You would need to know the design capacity and the current full charge capacity. Then it would be FCC / Design * 100 = Remaining capacity as a percentage of the design. My MacBook as an example is 7995 (FCC) / 8790 (Design Cap) * 100 = 90.95% after 37 Cycles. Whats also worth noting, is the drop in capacity will happen within the first 6-12 months and start level off slow down after this.
Mine dropped 1% on my 15 after 1 month

That said this video is awesome. I had no clue about this. Thanks a lot.
I have been charging the iPhone Xr 12V with a charger for 1.5 years, did not allow the lowest battery level and did not always charge up to 100 percent - during this time the battery decreased from 88 to 87 percent of capacity.
Hi! It is interesting going into the data log of the phone, but please note this is not valid! What you see there is how many times the phone has been charged, however some charging sessions do not count as a full charging cycle on your battery! What I mean by this is that, for example, you charge your phone from 20 to 80%, it will have a lesser effect compared to if you charged it from 10 to 90%, however, the cycle count you show in the data file still increases. This is why this iPhone's battery is at 100% still, because all those 121 charges do not add up to 121 full cycles, which indeed would make your health go to around 95%.
Also, do note, many users, me included, report that going from 100% to 99% battery health takes a lot longer than any other dip in percentage. This is because batteries when they are new may have a slightly bigger capacity than that 100% shown in the health tab.
Hi. There is a shorter way. After opening your analytics data, just tap the arrow pointing up on the upper right corner of your screen then add battery stats to your actions. Then press battery stats to get your battery cycles and health percentage

Purchased new (replacement) phone online while out of town. Battery health said 100%. After several months, battery health still says 100%. I tried your note trick but it did not work for me. Perhaps due to the latest 16.4 update
Unfortunately cycles doesn’t tell you the whole story. Like if you leave your phone in sun/heat one day it drastically hits on battery health no matter the cycles. Getting 80% from 500 cycles is just a general guide. But that battery health isn’t lying though.
298 cycles here and still 100%. It all depends on the type of charger (i use a 25 watt Samsung adapter), and when do we charge the phone at 80%, 60% (me around the 40%).
I have multiple Analytics in Data.. Analytics Daily, Analytics Journal Daily, Analytics Never… which one should I use?
Hi. I pumped into a wall on my iPhone, I can't create new home screens, no more! I have an XS running iOS 16. I used to create new home screens by simply holding a jiggling app icon and moving it to the right where a new page opens automatically in a hassle-free way. But this thing is no more applicable. I reached out to Apple support, and they suggested useless solutions such as hard-restarting the phone or updating the software (which is already up to date).
So I decided to troubleshoot the problem myself since no one is helping! Hence, I went to settings and tried to reset the home screen settings only, but my bad :( I forgot to save screenshots of the old order of the apps!
At the moment, I'm struggling with the no more home screens problem, and the stupid new order of my apps which is really frustrating 😮💨
Any idea please on how I can get back to my previous app icons' order? or the no new home screens thing?

Been hearing lots of complaints about 15 Pro models degrading so fast. Mine is 30 cycle counts and shows 98%BH . I tried the formula you provided and and its seems accurate because it turns out 98.8%
I get what you are saying but the reduction in capacity probably isn't a linear function of cycles. It might be ... but I doubt it. I'm at 98% on 99 cycles.
The main problem is that one cannot set a maximum charging limit, like I can in my Tesla. I would like to limit charging to 80-90%

Hey Daniel,
Can you explain why we are multiplying cycle count by 20?
thats easy its because 20% health decrease after 500 cycles is claimed.
Cycles/500 x 20 = % of battery health lost
20 is the percentage that is lost after 500 cycles
Simple math, because to be 80% after 500 cycle count, you need to lose 20% which is the 20.
(121*20)/500-(100)
@@XtremeMusa is that mean a battery lifelong charge capacity is 2500 ?

Exactly!!
because 500 x 20 / 500 = 20. 100 - 20 = 80. una perdita del 20 percento corrisponde a 500 cicli, è una proporzione. ad ogni modo è incorretta. Temperatura, carica, età batteria e altri fattori incidono sulla specifica. perciò è incorretto
Is there a way to find out the manufacture date of the battery in any analytics data on the phone the same way as finding out the charge cycles? I know you could find that out with coconut battery but it looks like this method would be more accurate.
I think it's the other way around: coconut battery is way more accurate: while iPhone shows me 100% battery health, coconut battery shows me it's even 102% and also shows exact cycle count.
Please what is coconut battery? I am currently using Xs max and I have 833 counts, yet battery health is still at 100%. I don’t know how this is possible

Man forget all other advice. Keep it between 20 and 80 constantly, don't let it get too hot and you're good to go. I have 187 cycles on 14 Pro Max and coconut battery shows 101% still and Apple settings shows 100%. I use a fast charger so doubt this has any impact. Other than that just bloody use it.
As someone who did his thesis in battery estimation and worked with satellites before (where keeping a high battery health is worth billions), I would add a few caveats to your "rule".
1. You can charge up to 95 or 97% with minimum degradation
2. Battery health is a function of the battery discharge
3. Aim to charge the battery just before you need it, i.e. charge in the morning just before going out rather than before bed
A cycle from 80-20% gives a 60% discharge while a cycle from 95-50% gives a 45% discharge rate. Consequently, the 95-50% cycle is better for your battery if you charge it in the morning
