  • China Beats the US to Become India's Top Trading Partner | Vantage with Palki Sharma
China overtook the US to become India's top trading partner in the last financial year. Despite the years-long border standoff between the two countries, India-China continues to grow. But this bilateral exchange is heavily stacked in China's favour, with India logging a deficit of over $85 billion. While India's exports to China have fallen marginally in the last five years, China's exports to India have grown almost 45%. China's top exports to India include electronics, pharmaceutical raw materials and EV batteries. Other major Asian economies, including South Korea and Japan, are also top traders with China. How are China's rivals balancing trade and strategic concerns? Palki Sharma tells you.

Trying to fish for a problem where there is none. What's wrong with China becoming India's number one trading partner. It is the west that is trying to create this economic rivalry between China and India. China and India can both grow and become economic giants in the world together.
Proper economic growth should be born out of competitions and not trying to contain another economically of which has been the foreign policies of Western countries towards China. And it will be sad if India adopt same.

China does not consider India as a threat or adversary because they are both in BRICS. Only India considers China as a threat. The trade deficit is not the right way to calculate because India imports raw materials and semi finished goods pkus manufacturing machinery to be value added and re-exported. The border issue is not just China's fault. The MacMohan line was drawn by the British colonial days without China's input. At that time China was also being colonized by the G8 countries in the opium war. It is best settled by negotiation which means both must compromise, not just China. It will be contradictory that India is in the BRICS yet at the same time be a member of the AUKUS to contain China in the South China sea. India cannot play both sides of the field forever and be trusted.

All the tunnels being built, rail tracks being laid, where do you think all the machinery is coming from? Importing from Europe will cost 5 times more than China. India does not make most of those machinery yet. It takes time and money to develop the expertise to build those machinery. Until then, India will have to import from China.
Also, China controls supply chain for a vast number of construction related resources. Importing from any other source will cost a lot more.
The key takeaway is, India waited too long to start aggressive development, and aggressive development requires a lot of imports, and China controls a lot of the supply-chain for construction machinery and resources.

That's not the case with india, people lived seperately between themselves with different languages, culture etc, untill the colonisers came opened the borders so that they could move slaves easily, transfer goods and loot the wealth of people faster and efficiently. After the British left instead of giving the people their respective land to rule themselves the Gujarati/North Indians just used the British drawn up map and called it india and setup USA like democratic system so that the Gujarati/North Indians can control huge land, resources combined with large population.
