  • Romance is a significant part in many of our lives. We’ve probably, at some point, had a crush here and there. Perhaps you have a crush in mind right now. Kierkegaard’s protagonist in his work “The Seducer’s Diary” goes about attracting a crush of his in a way that may be considered unethical and impractical. What if, then, we examine this character and use him as an anti-role model? Perhaps by learning what not to do we can obtain some insights that might help us in our own romantic lives.

You did not understand nothing from Kierkegaard's book!

I have to disagree. You're applying a very moral perspective to something that is not meant to be taken that way. Kirekegaards either/or is about living in the moment, because whatever decision you make you will regret. That is the either/or of the book. Diary of a Seducer is supposed to reflect one decision of the either/or: hedonism. The alternative which you speak of applies the "ethical" contrasted to the "aesthetic". Kirkegaard talks about these two ways of life. Its why the next chapter in the abridged version regards marriage, the very Hegelian antithesis of seducers.
Kierkegaard hated Hegelian dialectics. He never believed in compromise in that respect. Again, he believed in an either/or. You live one way and regret the possibilities of the other. It takes absurdism to the highest possible extent by espousing that there can be no compromise, because any decision you make is one where you believe "the grass is always greener".
For you personally, it might make sense to focus on yourself. It might also make sense to wait until you find someone very special to get married. But you're simply perpetuating the cycle Kierkegaard talks about; either/or. Either you live single, or you get married. And you live to regret both.

It’s a complete parody of Kierkegaard’s work that this diary is released as a standalone.
You probably should have read the entire book Either/Or…. This is not a standalone story. The seducer’s diary is a warning against the depraved slippery slope of hedonism. Not an actual dating guide.
The aesthetic character “A” discovered this diary and is terrified by the contents within. He knows that this is his possible future if he continues in the aesthetic life without rigorously maintaining his less depraved aesthetics pleasures.

I've read the Seducer's Diary and I can't say I enjoyed it, mainly because I couldn't empathize with the main character nor relate with the 18th-century "dating".
That being said, I quite enjoyed your video, even though your suggestions are (or should at least) be common knowledge, the quality and the way you express those is engaging. Keep it up!

Kierkegaard had a long lost love he never "got with." Spent too much time thinkin' about it!

Looking for deeper meaning of Seducers Diary but got a dating advice haha. Maybe title should be more reflective of the video content. Some of us want to get a deeper look into the actual book.
