Can't Accuse Disney of being Smart....
Two things stand out to me as BAD from that video.
One) The Use of a FAN CREATED Celebratory Day, where Disney just CoOpts it as if They Came Up with it. Oh That Annoys me.
And TWO) LEANING on "Fans" who just Come Together for a Shared Good Time and Using that Convention footage to try and Jedi Mind Trick the Illusion of UNITY by Deep Throating the Fans who Signed WAIVERS to Be on Camera and Feel like they are OFFICIALLY Apart of Star Wars....when they're NOT.
Fans, leftovers or Legacy Fans, Go to the Convention for TWO REASONS ONLY. Sure there's Other reasons but those are NOT the Functional MAIN Reasons they go to Star Wars specific Cons.
They Go for Star Wars to be around it ON Their TERMS with Other Fans.
And TWO, they Go to BE WITH OTHER FANS in the CONTEXT of COMMUNITY that Disney CANNOT CAPTURE or Generate on their own!!
At any Regular Convention, a Guy in Full BOBA FETT Costume can look and see another guy in a SPOCK Costume and the Vulcan Hand Gesture for "LIVE LONG and PROSPER!" is SHARED and Shown By BOTH FETT and SPOCK.
Why? Because we KNOW when its JUST US, Without the COMPANY IN OUR LIVES, these IPs MEAN Something and that Meaning is Knowingly Shared and Recognized Among REAL FANS.
Not the "Will Watch Anything Fans" But the Fans who CARE ENOUGH to Give CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISMS to Ensure the INTEGRITY of their Beloved IP is Maintained.
And No Fandoms do that Better than TREKKIES and TOLKIEN Fans.
But Regardless of your favorite fandoms, You FIND Your "Representation" by Simply Finding OTHER FANS. The Representation IS IN the AUDIENCE and NOT the IP, and All one Ever Needed to Access it is LIKE and WATCH the IPs for What they ARE.
We ALL Bent Ourselves TO the Materials, Learned the RULES and were INSPIRED by it all.
And when we Made Something for it, we Made it For Ourselves FIRST and for Fellow FANS Second. And As LONG as What we Made, be they FAN stories, Artwork, costumes and props, toy accessories that never existed, STUFF...as Long as it Followed the "RULES" of the IP then You were Golden and Fellow Fans Appreciated it.
It's the OVERLAP of Fandoms that make up the Public Community and Disney CANNOT CLAIM THAT as Something THEY'VE CREATED or are RESPONSIBLE FOR.
    They are Neither.
What they're Realizing Now is that WE KICKED THEM OUT of OUR Fandom...and they're DESPERATELY trying to Weasel their way Back Inside...and by Using the All Together Now wording and Phrasing they Think that will Get them Back In.
    NOPE...Not Gonna Work Disney.
The ONLY WAY BACK is THROUGH SUCCEEDING at the WORK...and You HAVEN'T DONE the WORK...and You Pizzed Off a GENERATIONAL Audience amd All you're Ledt with are the Disingenuous SHILLS and the Younger ones who Haven't SEEN Anything of BETTER Story and Character QUALITY to Compare to ...YET.
And the BAR of Expectations is SO LOW its become a Tripping Hazard and Disney Still Cannot Reach HIGH ENOUGH to grab hold.
Far far too busy F'N Around and Finding Out....and All to the IP and Disney's detriment.

I know Disney use to mean safe for all members of the family, but today, I have no clue who their target audiences are outside of a bunch of idiots on twitter/X, should they suffer even more flops on movies that are meant for families, then they have lost the family market and with that, their core audience as they been idiots and bitten the hands of those who feed them, far to many times and now its our turn to bite and they are going to feel a world of hurt that they earned from very bad behevour!!

Re Ewan's "You are no Star Wars fan in my mind" rant (which was probably provided him by the studio)- So let me get this straight. You might like the main movies of a franchise, and other shows, and you might buy the merch and go in online groups to talk about it... but you're not gong to be considered a *real* fan if you dislike one canon-breaking 6 episode series in that franchise, and its shoehorned-in Mary Sue lead who takes away from the title character? A bit of an extreme reaction, eh?

The whole "you're not a REAL fan if you don't..." trope (re: 'no true Scotsman' fallacy) turned me off of being a "fan" of anything years ago. I'll say I enjoy this or that, or really like that or this, but I just don't call myself a "fan" of anything. It's become more of a club to beat people with than a term of endearment.

Pissney deliberately makes divisive stuff. Demoralization and fragmentation of the fandoms is their goal. Divide and conquer. Fandoms are like the only thing which connect people of all races, economical backgounds, country where they live... so breaking the fanfom into many little factions is a perfect strategy to divide.
Another tactic is forcing evil characters (Boo-Karen, Admiral Gender Studies) as her-oes if they are female, while male characters are ridiculed and sidelined and treated like sh*t for having moral creed, or just for being men (Luke, Din, Poe) .
Pissney is a pr0pag4nda machine, not an entertainment company.

  • @hopejordan2997
    @hopejordan2997 Před 25 dny +1

I actually disagree this time. Star Wars Fandom USED to feel like a family. It was something universal that everyone could connect with no matter your background. I made amazing friends that I never would otherwise when I joined the 501st Legion. The costuming group helped me overcome my social anxiety. I come from a broken home, had very few friends growing up, and was always considered to be a freak among my biological family members, so it was nice to have a family of friends I could depend on while my family was falling apart and rejecting me. Everyone was welcome to come play Star Wars. However, Disney has destroyed that! I have kept many of the old Star Wars friends I've made along the way, even though I despise everything Disney has done. The Disney Star Wars "family" has the "if you're not with us, you're against us" mentality. It wasn't like that before the dark times, before The Force Awakens.

Yeah, they’ve told me over and over that I’m not part of the family. They’re so far detached from their fandoms it’s hilarious. Fans are what drives an IP. Creators may come up with the stories but the fans give it life. If we are all a family why don’t they listen to their whole family?? Joke marketing. Calling a fandom family shows a fundamental misunderstanding of what a fandom is.

Unfortunately, the Kathleen Kennedy era May the Fourth means.... absolutely nothing to those of us who actually saw the original Star Wars movie in theaters. There is no sense of wonder, magic or even entertainment value with the franchise anymore. It's become Kathleen Kennedy's DEI vanity project to recreate Star Wars in her vision and as a result irrevocably damaged it beyond repair. There is no one I know (male or female) that watches Star Wars or even cares about it anymore. It's ironic that Kennedy has spent her entire tenure at Lucasfilm besmirching George Lucas's legacy. Yet most of video features characters FROM the George Lucas era Star Wars. if I want a trip down memory lane, I'll think back to the fond memories I have when I saw the original trilogy with my friends and family. Better yet, If I need a Star Wars fix, I'll stick to playing KOTOR.
