Trimming a yew hedge

  • 80 metres of yew hedging took six hours to trim and clean up. This also included trimming the azaleas that line the same driveway. Trim the sides first then move up onto the top, this gives a nice finish.
When hedge trimming make sure to check for hazards (cables, wires, etc), be safe up the ladder and have clean, sharp tools.
I used a Stihl HLA 65 trimmer in this video. The blade's changeable angle came in extremely useful. The battery is the AP300 and still had 2 bars charge by the end of the day. I also used the Area Bio hedge trimmer blade spray to keep the blade clean and running smoothly.
I have been a qualified horticulturist for six years and have worked in gardening since I was 12. I have a lot of experience so feel free to subscribe for upcoming videos about hort education/growing plants/garden maintenance/etc.
Not endorsed or affiliated with Stihl, just highly rate their machines.

Good grief, no gym membership needed for you! That was very satisfying to watch you sculpt those hedges. Nice one!

What an insane range of hedges to cut. I see a lot of brown patches in the Yew after you’ve cut. Obviously Yew is one of the evergreens that should grow back from brown. But do you ever feed the hedges after you’ve cut them?

Massive! The brown bits are from where I lifted the conifer trees crowns, I only did this last year so hoping they will green up naturally this year but if not I will give them a seaweed liquid feed :)

If they pay you by the hour, you should slow down, lol..
It's a hard work! Don't kill yourself. 🌱 I know, this is just a sped up recording, but I mean the speed you work with.
And if you work fast and can't slow down, charge them by the project/ job 😉
