THE MOST INTELLIGENT discussion on pruning on CZcams. Good job.
Lots of good info packed in short video. If only more instructional videos were like this.
Thank "Yew" for the tips.
Very helpful.
I loved this overview, and appreciate the shade toward Yews as foundation plants and/or hedges. I feel the same! We have some overgrown ones in our garden now, and much appreciated your narration. I echo the comment and would love to see how the pruning is done (before, during and after) in future videos. Thank you and subscribed! :)
Hello Again, Gary!
As a tree man I don't do any gardening I can avoid. But in my small Western town many of my tree customers are people I know and care for. So I do occasionally prune a bush that has been requested.
Ordinarily I feel strongly that tree men are not gardeners, and gardeners are certainly not trained tree men.
So I am careful. And I treat these exceptions with a light hand.
All that being said, I thank you for teaching us about yews. Good narration, scientifically done.
Great to-the-point short video! Thanks!
Thanks -- appreciate the basic pruning facts. Helpful!
Thanks for the tips. Informative and to the point. I do like a square hedge look. I didn't realize you want it to be a little wider at bottom.
Good video and thanks for the information .
Thanks -- that was very helpful!
Nice, informative video. Thanks!
thank you for the great info. i have some overgrown yews. worried about pruning this time of year
I learned quite a bit - thank you!!!
Thank you. I live in Iowa and was wondering when to prune. Thank you.
Very helpful, thank you!
Great vid Gary thank you, hate our yews 🙄 going to try pruning shortly thanks for the info
Great vid 👍
I live in Canada and am working in a garden that has several yews of different shapes. Two of them have very little greenery and what greenery there is, is at the top. This was useful and I would love to see how to prune the taller yews that grow like trees but can grow very sparsely. These yews I speak of are in a shade backyard.
Hey thanks a lot of good information
🎉Thank you.❤
I have a large yew hedge that I will be cutting back quite severely this week, luckily the cold weather here has left it dormant.
Thank you, very helpful! Xoxo, Frances in Madison, WI
Thanks for the helpful video. I wondered about fertilizing after pruning yews. I have some yews that have been mismanaged and I’m working on rejuvinating them. Is it helpful to fertilize yews after pruning and if yes, what type of fertilizer? Thanks!!
Did he ever say when the second growth is? I heard him mention the first growth in the spring.
Thank you!
Question: Will a yew bush become a yew tree or is that a different species?
Great video! Thank you for sharing. Can I cut mine way back. It is in the 90's here in NY . will that kill the Yew? AM I to late?
I need to cut it wayyyyy back. Please say I can do it now?
I’m in Illinois so I have similar weather. What do you with one that is taller than wider and I want to take height from it.
Do you have tips on pruning a conical yew?
I have a very huge yew cut into a oval shape in front of my yard. My father in law had it cut flat on top which I hated. It took 5 years to correct this mistake. Yes they are extremely slow growing.
What’s the best way to “prune” a yew back to natural state after it has been squared off!
We’re wanting our densiformis spreading yew to grow a little taller but don’t want to get rid of the vigorous side growth because we need the privacy from the neighbors dogs who like to watch and bark at us. We’re worried about pruning the side growth but do need them taller to help with the taller dogs. Yews are in full shade. What do you recommend? And thanks in advance.
I'm in Cedar Springs Mi, want to come my over grown shrubs? Lol.
Thanks for the offer, but I have all the pruning sites I need.
I have a yew about 25 feet high. Oops.
