*"Rebuilding my theology from scripture alone"*
This is what the church needs, brother. Many unscriptural things are commonly believed due to unquestioned tradition.

That’s one of the first things I thought of too. The trinity is a catholic dogma. The council of nicea means nothing, only scripture. Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. He is Lord of all. He has a divine nature like his father and is therefore equal to God in regards to his nature, but he isn’t his father. They are separate individuals. He is also the image of God and whoever sees him has seen the Father, but God is Jesus’s God as Jesus himself says even in the book of Revelation. Jesus also said “and this is life eternal: that they might know thee the only true God and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent” John 17:3. The Holy Spirit is simply God’s spirit. It is not a separate person. So the Spirit is a person because God the father himself is a person and not just a force as some teach. When the spirit speaks it is God the Father or Jesus Christ speaking to us (remember in revelation “hear what the spirit says to the churches” said Jesus). Through the Spirit we have the indwelling presence of both the father and the son. “ if any man love me ... my father will love him and we will come unto him and make our abode with him”

@@whatistruth2810 that is a common error that all trinitarians and JWs and mormons make....
They use unscriptural explanations to fit their carnal minded ideas of godhead......they use the word..... separate......which is a lie ....when speaking of the relationship of father and son.....
Father and Son were not separate.....not biblical at all.....Father and Son were inseparable or yoked together in the same body....they were one but not one like your finger one.....Jesus christ was a dual person or Father and Son were both in divine fellowship in the body of Jesus christ

Pastor Mike, THANK YOU SO MUCH for this q&a. For all of the questions of course, but specifically for God using your teaching to help me understand for the very first time the idea of God's sovereignty juxtaposed with human free will.
I came to Christ in Spring of 2020 and have found myself holding a reformed faith for nearly 2 years. The first time I heard your Biblical objection to Calvinism I strongly opposed it, so much so that your words weren't getting through.
I've since binge watched dozens of your videos and recommend the to everyone because I appreciate so wholeheartedly your approach to thinking biblically, being willing to accurately state the oppositional view rather than avoid it, and using SCRIPTURE to teach us the truth.
I recently watched the Biblical objection to Calvinism vid again and was able to *hear* your points. I still didn't agree 100% but I almost find myself *wanting* to. Not because I wanna agree w Mike Winger. But because I desperately wanna agree with God's Word and also overcome my misunderstanding on free will. It paralyzes me into inaction.
I listen to many reformed teachers like Steve Lawson, John MacArthur, R.C. Sproul, Voddie Baucham, etc and what they say makes so much sense during the vid, and I do find their teachings make sense to my linited understanding, and it's also what tend to I find in the Bible when I just read it on my own (I came to this belief before finding reformed theology) including how they say that the idea of free will isn't in the Bible. (Admittedly, I'm about 5 books shy of reading the entire thing)
BUUUUUT the idea of God already having chosen people stops me from sharing the gospel almost always. He'll save His ppl even if I do nothing and I'll get one less jewel on a crown in heaven or something, is the sort of thought process that I deal with. I can tell it's wrong, but I can't get past it.
AND FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER through this video, I was able to comprehend what you taught. That God knows what we are going to do and he does NOT want us to sin, but he does allow us to make mistakes etc. He's not a helicopter parent in that sense. (Even though He is absolutely THERE the whole time 😂)
I'm sorry this comment is so long and idk if you'll ever read it. But I wanted you to know I'm grateful for the work you do for the Kingdom and to help us understand the Word of God better. Thank you.

  • @emf49

I have always found the deep love between Jonathan and David extremely moving. It reminds me of the friendship my son had - when he was 10-years-old with his friend - also named Jonathan. There was such a bond between them that they bought neck chains with medallions that separated, having each other's name engraved on one half. They wore the one with the other's name in it. To this day - they are both 31 and married - and live miles apart, they still have a deep affection for one another. (I don't know if they still have the chains!!)
I think it's a beautiful thing when two men can love one another so completely in a perfectly 'normal' male way. I understand many army vets feel that same kind of connection with some of their fellow comrades.
I believe David had a capacity for great love. It moves me everytime I hear how he wept over the death of his dearest and truest friend, Jonathan.
When I last read the account of how he responded when he heard of the death of his son, Absalom, who had betrayed him, his evident grief brought me to tears. "Absalom, Absalom, my dear son" was full of a profoundly deep sorrow.
As an aside, I wonder if the relationship between David and Jonathan somehow foreshadowed the relationship between Jesus and his disciple, John. It's an interesting thought to realize that though Jesus was - and is God - as a man in ancient Israel, he too was capable of the kind of human love displayed by David and Jonathan. I wonder if we miss that element of Jesus, the man, when we tend to see Him only - not to trivialize his sacrifice - as the One who loved the whole world and died for our sins. Just a thought that came to me tonight. Jesus was indeed a "Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief." as Isaiah 53 states.
Thanks for doing the Q & A. I always find these these type of sessions highly interesting and enlightening.

I agree. I asked my pastor for something like this to happen at my church, maybe once a quarter. I was convinced that people would stay after service for it or come on Wednesday night (our midweek gathering and teaching times) with enthusiasm. I felt like it would really increase the bond of fellowship as well as boosting people’s understanding of scripture. I suggested a panel of our elders/pastors if our main teaching pastor didn’t want to go it alone. I would say my idea was met with hesitance. It never happened.

I really enjoy your content brother. Your heart and Spirit are refreashing. You draw out the intent and context well in a way that's easy to understand for many.
Half way through this and have to finish later. Wanted to point out my thoughts on a couple things. While i agree The state bares the sword and we all deserve death; i think the Lord desires mercy over judgement. That anyone can be turned to the Lord and often those most sinful are used strongly. That killing a person takes vengeance into our own hands and robs a person of continued chance to repent. It's also the extreme example of not being willing to forgive and thus the other man is in danger of not being forgiven if he continues to view the world that way.
Another point is that i think the bible speaks against breaking trust. That we shouldn't share secrets. Proverbs talks about it and it's not Truely loving another as Jesus loved us. But i think the intent of gossip is someone focused on making stuff up about others rather then focusing on their own life. Their foolish talk spreads like gangrene and relationships or reputations can be destroyed.
The other thing i thought about when you answered the confession question, which admittedly i still have questions, was the other verses. It talks about having the power to bind and loose. It says whatever you forgive is forgiven what you don't isn't. It says forgive and you will be forgiven. There are a lot of verses like this that seem to paint a picture of bringing things to the light and having another person forgive you. Something real i don't fully understand yet. But seen i think in those and first John. Maybe see how those fit together. I think you did a excellent job explaining how it applied to Matthew.
I think that was it. You seem to honestly reason through the scriptures in a spirit of gentleness and love. That's rare. If you get time and want to tell me your thoughts on those that would be great and probably edifing for others. I'm gonna watch the rest. I'll be back at a later time so no rush. Love you brother. Keep doing what you do.❤

My point of conviction is, I always believed in God and disagreed strongly with homosexual 'marriage' and abortion but it never occurred to me how hypocritical I was actually being and although I am married (to the same man I lived in sin with for what its worth) what else am I completely hypocritical about and not realise. I hope with a fervent hope that I would hear my Father's conviction if I am but I really must examine myself daily so I do not slip into this error again

She got saved after being married and serving with Paul as a missionary after about 10 or twelve years. True regeneration is amazing.. So many of us thought we were saved because we were trying to be Christian. My spirit says Abba Father from within and my soul is so sensitive and repentive to sin now. Hey Mike, what do you think about rebuking and separating from those that associate with people that spread a false gospel (Justification by faith + works, maybe?), according to 2 John 1:10-11? William Lane Craig seems to associate with people like that and it's somewhat concerning. I suppose he includes them in orthodoxy but that seems to make it a sin of ignorance rather than defiance. Sin, nevertheless though.
This is not an attack on WLC... His work has helped me grow in Christ tremendously and I would hate to separate from him and his teaching but I'm not sure what to do with his stance on Catholic doctrine. To be clear, I have not fully explored the possibility that Catholic justification is a false gospel but it sure seems like it from your teaching, James White's teaching, Michael Brown's teaching and from my own exegesis.
    Thank you for your ministry!

I ultimately renounced my faith because there were multiple questions regarding human sexuality in relation to sin. No Bible believing Christian so far has been able to answer them to satisfaction. I only got answers regarding free will and responsibility but then they could not reconcile weather God is interventionist or not.
Here are my questions regarding human sexuality:
Why are human beings judged for feelings, urges and desires they have no control over? I understand acting out those desires would be wrong but a man looking upon a woman with sexual desire as well as homosexual urges are victim-less crimes. If your answer is accepting Jesus as your savior, I'd say that should be if sin is avoidable because you are not responsible for unavoidable sin. If the answer is to dress modestly, that enters the dangerous territory of blaming the victim especially in cases of rape.
Can a man (I cannot speak for women) TRULY be celibate? I understand that celibacy is the only alternative to marriage if you want to avoid sin. What about having wet dreams and masturbation?
How can the church as an institution judge me for what I do behind closed doors? Can a pastor or priest or whatever authority instruct someone on what to do with their genitals? Is that not a personal struggle?
Finally, if sex outside of wedlock is a sin, why is it God who is the creator, create life through the act of a sin? Is a baby born outside of marriage a consequence for sin (non-interventionist), or a blessing despite the fact that the baby is born into a sinful and difficult predicament (interventionist)? Should Yahweh thank Satan and/or the sinners for offering Him the opportunity to bring forth his blessing?

I also think of the story Jesus told in Luke 18. The tax collector. Then this verse where i think Paul explains. 2 cor 7. Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation without regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.
I don't think it's a matter of permission to destroy the world. The world is being reserved for judgement by fire without question.
Gods plan before creation was to pay for all sin through Jesus. He then choose specific messengers to lay the foundation of the faith and spread his offer of the gospel. This goes to the whosoevers, good and bad alike. Everyone is implored to be reconciled through Jesus. Those who die and rise with Christ have put on Christ and are predestined to become like him, to stand holy and blameless in God's sight.
So i think the view is actually a bigger more loving merciful God, able to bring his plan about even amongst free agents bound in sin. His desire is that everyone comes to be freely pardoned. Those who do humble themselves and come are saved. Those who continue in pride until death are not. Those who come are a praise to his glorious Grace. Those who reject him will satisfy his just requirement with their own life.
Everything about what i just said screams sovereignty and power rightly defined. We didn't decide how things work. We don't decide when the world is destroyed. We didn't decide the way of salvation. So many other things are completely out of our control. If i jump off a cliff, all things being equal, i fall. The bible clearly lays out the way of salvation through Grace by faith. Freely pardoned because he paid the debt. Freely offered to any rebel who comes in humility to surrender on his terms. To all who listen and learn from the Father, without distinction or partiality. Made alive and adopted through his own Spirit. I really think these things are objectively clear in bible.
I was a calvinist for a couple years. Got sucked in shortly after coming to real faith. So i understand how people see otherwise. I had the Holy Spirit smack and correct me. Eph 1 specifically, and it changed everything. All i ask people to do is pray to the Father what is True after studying both sides. The Spirit of Truth is given to us for many reasons. One of them is to lead into and testify of Truth. Today we are so focused on learning from people i think we miss that. Brother Mike does an excellent job and people can be helpful. If we aren't careful and vigilant though people can lead us astray from the Truth, even with the best intentions.
Just thought I'd add that, it came to mind when i read these. Love you❤

Hey Mike, in regards to the question about fallen angels and demons, there is a biblical scholar named Dr. Michael Heiser who has done extensive research on Ancient Near East studies and how the Hebrews looked at these subjects. He wrote a book called "The Unseen Realm". You should check it out. For example, in the book of Job, if you look in the Hebrew, it is not actually "Satan" the way it is translated in most English Bibles, it is actually translated "The Satan-Accuser". It is a title not a personal name. Just like in the English, you wouldn't call yourself "The Mike", the same is true in Hebrew grammar.
Secondly, in Second temple literature, the Jews believed that Fallen Angels and demons are different. Look at Gen 6:1-4. The ancient Rabbis believed that demons were the disembodied spirits of the Nepilim (Gen 6:4). Definitely goes against the traditional views in the church but super interesting and makes a lot of sense. Blessings

Mike does this hypothetical question help salve calvinism? If a predestined person dies before they accept Jesus will they go to heaven? If you answer yes then the predestination happened at birth or before which would mean Jesus is not needed on the cross. But if you answer no then a faith step is needed for salvation. Both answers seem to go against a calvinistic perspective. I so want your thoughts on my weird question.

I’m wondering if we always lived in the paradise until this present time with no hate, sickness or death….would we have a natural inclination to give thanks, worship or even appreciate this beautiful and perfect life we have even though we have nothing inferior to compare it to??? Why would a child born into extreme wealth give thanks to his parent(s) for all they do for him/ her when they see no contrast? They would just think that this was suppose to be. It’s a hard pill to swallow but i think we needed this imperfect life to call out to God, trust God, have faith in God so that we may appreciate the afterlife that much more.
Side Note: No “Sin” & death??……God would’ve had to implement some sort of capacity restriction on child birth. Just a thought

Ok here it is ....at some point in my walk with Christ I was a firm believer in the rapture but after listening to other views from Godly men like ...Tim Conway it became a little shaky to me . If the rapture is biblical does that mean Christ is coming back twice ? Does it mean after the rapture of the church some people can take it as evidence and believe? It bothers me because it looks like that can be taken as a second chance.

      jadywolf007@gmail.com
Oh. I see. Just give me a second to structure my response. You know how it is when you know something your dots are connected but to show someone how they connected might be long and tedious.
So this is going to be a brief outlay and we can dig deeper as time goes on.
So first part of the question. Yes. There is more than one coming of Christ. There is the secret one where he collects his bride.
Think of mathew 25's parable. Here only the virgins are waiting for his coming. Compare this to 2 thesselonians 4. We see the dead rising and the living being caught up to meet the bridegroom.
Compare that 'fetching' with zech 14:1-5, Jude 1:14 and rev 19 where he comes with his church.
This then flows into question 2. Which if i understood correctly is those that witness the rapture, would they believe.
      Again i will say yes.
For example, the foolish virgin that knows the wise virgin was taken, they will then be left to face the full wrath of the beast powers. And in rev 12 i think we have a group that beats the beast with the testomony of christ but having been martyred. Will have to read up on this to get the proper verses.
But that will be Gods grace to them. Think of john 10:16.
I know very rough and super condensed.

Don't fail to understand that Eloheynu knows ALL POSSIBILITIES for EVERY ACTION of EVERY MOMENT for ALL TIME in this finite Creation of His.
Q: Does He not know where (more accurately "when") every subatomic particle, every wavicle of light, every 'piece' of antimatter, dark matter, and interdimensional port/crossover are at all times? The only answer is "yes".
In His Mind has already existed all realities in all dimensions. We happen to be living in one dimensional scenario (this physical/material realm) as it plays out in but one of those scenario paradigms - a reality we cannot escape and for us IS the only set of actions that matters (pun quite intended) - a reality that He informs us changes with prayer, conversion, and His non-capricious will-purposings, therein.
He knows all destinies He's imagined.
To Him, all his thoughts and their possibilities are as real as the nose on your face is to you.
He is the creator of time - the ever-now, hence, He 'was and is and is to come'.

The whole thing is complicated from our sense of God's morality. Sometimes God lets wicked people get away with their wickedness, and sometimes God lets good people get punished for things they haven't done. From God's point of view, we're all sinners deserving of His judgment, and He's the only One who is truly just in judgment. The only thing we can trust in is that God is going to sort everything out in the end and deliver true justice to everyone according to their works.

We are so often confused by GOD'S decisions and tend to forget (in our human frailty) that the Father is SO far above us and our ideas of justice and truth are just pale, anaemic echoes of the original versions implemented by God almighty and His Son. Fear of God is the beginning of wisdom (obviously only the beginning as we are redeemed by His son and proceed boldly to the throne of God under Jesus' protection)

Jorge Anido - I'm not sure I understand your question. Do you mean of what substance was Jesus prior to anything being created, including the spiritual world? Why would He have to have been of a different substance (for lack of a better word) than the Father and the Spirit? He is true God from true God, begotten and not made, consubstantial with the Father as we say in our creed. He is a different 'person' from the Father and the Spirit, but not of a different nature. God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) then created the spirit realm and the physical realm. So can you possibly rephrase your question? I'm not sure I understand it well enough to attempt to give a meaningful answer. Not that I have special knowledge to give answers, just that I'm trying to give it a stab.

There are reasons as to why the Lord allowed this for a season as mentioned here:
www.gotquestions.org/polygamy.html (just as a side note, I find this to be a very good website on all sorts of questions)
But just as Jesus brought marriage back to it's ideal in terms of divorce, so Jesus and the New Testament in general reiterates God's ideal of "one man, one women" in various verses - back to how it was meant to be "as it was in the beginning". (Matt 19:4-6, 1 Cor 7:2, Eph 5:22-23, 1 Tim 3:12)
In contrast to Polygamy, commands concerning homosexuality in the Bible are clear and consistent in both Old and New Testaments and it is clear that it is sin in the eyes of God.
