I enjoy watching you through your travels. I am long time owner- operator. Its great to see new drivers coming into this industry and doing so well. So I'm not an expert or an attorney or anything but here is my understanding: Unlike driving as a private citizen with certain rights, a commercial driver is under Federal guidelines as established by the FMCSA and enforced by commercially appointed officers, hence the term "commercial cop or DOT" and because you are a "for hire carrier" a DOT officer can search your vehicle and you without a warrant or cause. They can search your cab for alcohol whether open or closed and sealed you can not carry certain items in the cab of your truck (this is an example) You are also subject to a search of all your documents, licenses, insurance and complete compliance. This is known as a level 3 inspection (paper inspection only) if they wanted they could do a complete level 1 inspection, they do not need a reason to pull you over. Your ELD, logs, (even paper logs) must be accessible fully which is why he was asking for access to your cab, which if he wanted to push it could have done so, he was being nice and polite not making you. Typically they look back the last 7 days BUT can easily see back any amount of time that is on your logs, just because 7 days have passed doesn't mean you cant get a violation In fact under a DOT audit you can get a violation 6 mons later. Now as far as the violation for the 30 min break: the new rule reads like this: "30-Minute Break Rule Flexibility The dot hours of service 2019 changes allow 30-minute break flexibility by adding the break requirement to 8hours of driving time for at least 30 minutes without interruption. Thus, the 30-Minute proposed hours of service rule changes thereby enabling a driver to satisfy the break using on-duty, not-driving status, instead of off-duty." so he is is wrong in that violation. @@dotstuff4167 they absolutely can stop you without any reason. No violation has to occur prior to stopping. Which is why they check paperwork and give inspections. Not sure on the searching part. But they can and will stop you just because you were a certain color truck coming through. Or they want to check every 5th truck in line.

He was digging to find some way to hurt your driving rep. Nice or not, they are looking to collect money from citizens. There are many laws and don't be surprised that law enforcement don't know them. They are not taught them but are taught things that may hurt and have hurt citizens. Proud of you. Niesha. Try not to challenge the highway patrol 👮♂️ because a level 3 inspection can change to a level 1 instantly. So, instead of a ELD log inspection, that is performed by database review program, the DOT can go all-out on your truck. Here are some easy-to-find violations:
1. the little green DOT book must be in arms reach of the driver's seat (unwritten rule but enforced in some states).
2. trailer brakes out of service (if adjustment is not to specs) (results in out-of-service violation) (major violation)
3. tires (uneven tread wear, chunking or low tread depth) (under-inflation is considered flat)
4. fatigue driver (if the driver appears drowsy)
Again, any violation is the DOT's discretion. In other words, they have the freedom to decide and each state varies on their interpretation of DOT rules. A fellow trucker got a ticket in CA for missing grommet on a tarp. Violations stay on the driver's record (CSA) for three years and can render the driver unhirable for most companies. IL, IN and OH (the corn 🌽 belt) are very strict and have zero tolerance on construction zone speed limits. In OR, trucks are not allowed more than 2 miles in towns unless a delivery. PA has pop-up scale that are not in the trucker atlas. Lastly, remember that trucking companies have a love/hate relationship. If the driver has no violations, they love you. But if the driver gets violations...well you get the point. So be mindful, be safe and don't be afraid to tell your company "no, the trucks not moving 😫." Best...

I left trucking and now am in law enforcement and this is something I hate other officers ask! “Do you know why I pulled you over!” With me I pull you over I tell you why I pulled you over I get your info and decide whether I want to ticket you or give you a warning! Also, that officer seemed nasty and felt as if he was trying to do something very very off and I’m glad you recorded! Also to note if any officer immediately ask you to open your door DO NOT until they give you a legitimate reason to do so! DOT is one authority I never liked! As for me sometimes law enforcement officers may not be updated on a new law until they are scheduled for a class for it! Even they may forget what law applies with what! Either way I’m glad your safe
I was wondering why I felt creeped out when she said he went to the passenger side and then wanted her to open the door. There is so much room to be unseen on that side of such a big vehicle. Male or female I would feel leary. There are police impersonators, and hate to say it but there have been bad cops. I just don't feel that they have the right to put you in that uncomfortable situation. I realize that they may go to the passenger side for safety reasons (not to get hit by traffic). If it had been me I would have asked the policeman if I could get out of the truck from drivers side before he got into the passenger side. What are your thoughts or suggestions please.
How as a cop now can you advise someone to not cooperate with a cop? You have no idea why another cop may ask to open a door! I can think of a couple of reasons right off the top of my head. Your advice to not cooperate is exactly what needlessly escalates routine stops. 🤦🏽♂️

We’ve all seen the videos of people refusing to roll their window down etc. it seems today thanks to some politicians, our media, activist that many seem oblivious that cops have the legal right to do certain things. Stop people, detain people. Of course some cops are idiots, but your comment about suggest you don’t realize there are about 700,000/800,000 cops in America. I’ve been stopped only once was I confused about why I was stopped, the other times I was stopped cause I was doing something/had done something. I just think getting into a confrontation w cops is a bad idea..

I’ve been driving trucks for nearly 33 years now but I never once had a D.O.T. police asking me to open my doors for any thing except for the small compartment door just to see if I have triangle reflectors and tire chains ⛓. I’ve seen all of the Spider Man movies including the first two Tom Holland’s Spider Man ones but so far I haven’t seen the No Way Home yet but if I don’t catch it in theaters I can always get it on dvd 📀. I'm glad that you enjoyed your break , over a year doing long haul trucking you get worn out . Irregular sleeping patterns brought about by different situations. Like being held up at a shipper and other unforeseen situations, take a toll on the body . I've been doing it for 30 + years here in Oz. And I've noticed that the first and last months of the year are the hardest. The last as you've gotten slowly worn out over the year and the first as you get your body used to the lifestyle again. I love your videos, just found your channel today and binged watch a couple of hours now. I love to take cross country traveling but I do it rarely. I drove for 2 days this past Christmas to take my mom to go see my sister and her family for the holidays and we passed by so many truckers and I've always had a fascination about the trucker life. I love the road, there's no better feeling than having the open road infront of you and having that satisfying feeling of stopping by somewhere after a long's day drive. Lately I've been interested in possibly having a career change and looking into trucking, it's great to learn from you and thank you for putting these videos out. Cheers.

Took a few weeks off but have a truck driving job interview tomorrow to get back in the game. Eventually going regional with someone. Haven’t used my CDL in 22 years so gotta get some recent experience under my belt. Again, welcome back!!

Facts! I've been on that Thai Crystal (Alum Potash) wave for years... I use it along with natural deodorant mostly made from essential oils and baking soda. I prefer the crystal (Alum block) to the mist and you can get the crystal salts in bulk online and make your own mist for pennies on the dollar. Yes! I'm frugal.
Alum block also good as an aftershave and for minor nicks/cuts.

If you use benzoyl peroxide wash (Panoxyl and CeraVe make them) on your pits in the shower it can help stop bacterial growth 🤍 also if you use a AHA serum or cream like lactic acid in your skincare, putting that product on freshly washed pits helps keep the pH low and prevents bacterial growth

I can only imagine seeing a DOT officer pulling me over just because 🤦🏽♂️. Anyway, I didn’t realize how much I needed this review on this deodorant tho! I thought it was just me! Niesha, thanks for the encouraging words in the beginning -- I need encouragement these days because I'm about to start driving OTR next month after just getting my CDL, and I definitely have anxiety about it. It's a major life shift, but like you said, it's about growth and I think discomfort is a natural part of any growth process. I'm about to post a video talking about the things that specifically scare me about going OTR (I posted it previously, but have to repost because of some editing snafu).
On the deoderant -- I'm a big fan of the K-beauty brand Kopari (they sell it at Ulta), and their coconut oil deoderants smell amazing and are gentle and pretty effective. You do need to reapply, which I think is true of any natural deoderant. But the light coconut scent is totally addictive ... I love all of their stuff. Not cheap but a nice treat when you've been working hard. Thanks again for being you ... I always appreciate what a great example you are to others ... even people like me who are much older than you. Thank you!!

The only thing to say to any officer is, "I don't answer questions." Hand them your tablet, license and registration. Only open the door if you're under arrest. You have rights. Check out "I don't answer questions" for examples.

As an 18 year veteran of trucking…Police and DOT have every right to ask you to open the door. It’s not unusual at all. It really isn’t a big deal. It’s a safety thing. He can’t see your hands while he’s standing on the ground. Don’t make this a big deal. Go back and read your training manual. They tell you in driving school, DOT has a right to enter your truck. The ONLY thing they cannot require you to do, is break the seal on your trailer. If they want to break the seal, you call your company and request the US Marshall
If, you were pulled over in Kentucky, don't be surprised. My ex bil is a officer he said at the end of the month, each officer has a quota they have to fill. If they don't have it they pull over anybody to meet there quota.
